Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Ok, I guess you interpret documents better than the official who is paid to do so. You should let them know, it sounds like a good new job for you.

I quoted the actual document. there was no interpretation required as it was explicit.

pretty weird how you guys don't seem to care about and keep ignoring the part where they said that the only systematic sexual and gender-based crimes have been committed by the iof, so widespread that they were "either ordered or condoned" by leadership. and how prisoners have been sexually assaulted, including to death. so weird, must be a mistake...

by Bluegrassplayer k

Then you should put me on ignore. I would have put you on ignore over a year ago if I was able to.

you can't put mods on ignore, unfortunately. is it the same in reverse?

From the document:

Hamas military wing rejected all accusations that its forces committed sexual violence against Israeli women. However, the Commission documented cases indicative of sexual violence perpetrated against women and men in and around the Nova festival site, as well as the Nahal Oz military outpost and several kibbutzim, including Kfar Aza, Re’im and Nir Oz. It collected and preserved digital evidence, including images of victims’ bodies displaying indications of sexual violence, a pattern corroborated by independent testimonies from witnesses. Reliable witness accounts obtained by the Commission describe bodies that had been undressed, in some incidents with exposed genitals. The Commission received reports and verified digital evidence concerning the restraining of women, including hands and sometimes feet of women being bound, often behind the victims’ backs, prior to their abduction or killing. Additionally, the Commission made assessments based on the position of the body, for example images displaying legs spread or bent over, and signs of struggle or violence on the body, such as stab wounds, burns, lacerations and abrasions.

The part pertaining specifically to rape:

The Commission has reviewed testimonies obtained by journalists and the Israeli police concerning rape but has not been able to independently verify such allegations, due to a lack of access to victims, witnesses and crime sites and the obstruction of its investigations by the Israeli authorities. The Commission was unable to review the unedited version of such testimonies. For the same reasons, the Commission was also unable to verify reports of sexualized torture and genital mutilation. Additionally, the Commission found some specific allegations to be false, inaccurate or contradictory with other evidence or statements and discounted these from its assessment.

It's difficult to tell what you're arguing since you refuse to state it, but from what I can tell you disagree with the commission's interpretation of the data because the commission was unable to independently verify part of it.

Then you should put me on ignore. I would have put you on ignore over a year ago if I was able to.

Ill write an app for you that puts all my posts on ignore. I normally charge like 100 an hour bc I am a mediocre dev but for you I will just charge 50. dont pay me tho, you can pay it to any Gazan charity or GoFundMe.

What?

I can build an app that allows moderators to ignore posts. all you gotta do is pay for my time and give it to a Gazan family.

Alright I guess let's go off topic. When I hire devs to work for me one of the most important things is that they understand the work required of them. I do not need an app to ignore posts. When I directly asked if I was allowed to ignore you, I was told "no". I believe you saw it even. This is what I need fixed in order to ignore you.

Since you are incapable of ignoring my posts, it sounds like you should build this app for yourself; feel free to charge yourself whatever you want. Since this app would fix none of my problems, it is useless to me. Best of luck.

Does make any sense that the IDF would order rapes? think about it.

I wouldn't be getting my big bully friend around with his impressive array of armaments, invading part of my neighbour's house for myself and friends and then claim victimhood when he and his friends start attacking me and my family. That's what I would not do.

The Gazans should stop claiming victimhood and start doing something to improve their situation. Anger and hatred isn't helping their cause.

bruv, they drove past 3 ambulances. you think the hood of a military vehicle in 90 degree weather is safer than an ambulance?

Which side did those ambulances belong to?

ok then, well in that case I can help you with this question. I am in a helpful mood.

I am quite simply arguing against the chillrob statement that I quoted here:

I do not think that the operative part of this statement is true

That's funny, because when you were on vacation we all read the UN report which specifically said the Palestinians raped Israelis.

namely, I do not think that the UN report "specifically said the Palestinians raped Israelis".

Thank you. So you agree with the following from the commission:

The Commission identified patterns indicative of sexual violence and concluded that these were not isolated incidents but perpetrated in similar ways in several locations primarily against Israeli women.

but believe that rape has not been proven.

by Victor k

I quoted the actual document. there was no interpretation required as it was explicit.

Here you go again pretending you misunderstood something. At least for your sake I hope that's what you're doing.

1 - it implies that the sexual assault was systematic street it says it was not isolated.

2 - nobody cares that the IDF sexually humiliated members of a terrorist group.

idk why you asked permission to ignore someone, who you asked, or why they said no, but here's the thing: you could just do it anyway. i doubt anyone would know or care

by mongidig k

ok thought about it some more, still yes

by mongidig k

The Gazans should stop claiming victimhood and start doing something to improve their situation. Anger and hatred isn't helping their cause.

seems like you just tuned into this conflict, but they tried everything else to address their illegal occupation, my guy. this kind of violent resistance was an inevitable response after everything else failed to change the facts on the ground

by Bluegrassplayer k

Thank you. So you agree with the following from the commission:

but believe that rape has not been proven.

thats what the commission says.

I dont know what "patterns indicative of sexual violence" means exactly. at least to me it seems to be a lower burden than actual patterns of sexual violence.

by 72off k

Yep I'm a pretty silly Ned Stark type on this type of thing. I won't be doing that without permission.

by chillrob k

2 - nobody cares that the IDF sexually humiliated members of a terrorist group.

I do. Especially because I think it's unlikely that IDF is doing enough to ensure that these are actual members of the terrorist group.

by chillrob k

1 - it implies that the sexual assault was systematic street it says it was not isolated.

no, they specifically avoided using that word wrt to hamas crimes on 10/7, and specifically used it when describing iof crimes, for reasons. the choice of words is intentional and important.

2 - nobody cares that the IDF sexually humiliated members of a terrorist group.

untrue

Strong argument. I agree.

I am not pretending anything. if you have an issue, then I would be happy to clarify.

by Victor k

I am not pretending anything. if you have an issue, then I would be happy to clarify.

I said that you thought the summary of the document didn't interpret the document correctly, and you answered that the document did not need to be interpreted, which doesn't validate or invalidate the correctness of the summary which was made, and which we were already discussing.

by chillrob k

True, didn't you say 99% earlier?

I think it was more like 90%.

by mongidig k

The Gazans should stop claiming victimhood and start doing something to improve their situation.

This is word for word what white South Africans used to say about their black compatriots during apartheid.

by chillrob k

nobody cares that the IDF sexually humiliated members of a terrorist group.

wtf? Lots of us care about observing human rights, even if some of them are terrorists.

Absolutely horrendous post.
