Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Benny Gantz: Israel can destroy Hezbollah’s military in days

I hope this is bluster because this is terrifying. Israeli 3 day special military operation is not a good idea.

Israel doesnt try to destroy militaries. they aim for civilians and infrastructure.

What do you think would have happened if the Israeli military and police never showed up on Oct 7th? Hamas would have just continued their rampage and killed as many Israelis as they could. The death of Jews and Israel is in their doctrine. Unfortunately, people view this as a game with a score. Hamas killed 1200 but Israel has killed 30,000. Therefore, Israel is perceived to be the bad guy to those who haven't taken the time to dig deeper. .

think we're closer to 40,000 confirmed dead, but yeah you got it

bruv they were buried alive under rubble or blown to bits. and some were stolen by Israeli.

More unfounded conjecture

the spending was 7/8 to 1 against bowman and it came from outside the dem party. i dont think it was a proxy battle between democrats at all. it was a successful attempt to divide the party from outside. bowman wasn't favored because the district became more westchester and less bronx due to the redistricting.

just look at the people celebrating. you have the likes of stephen miller cheering it on.

the "fire alarm" stunt was him trying to bigtime his way through a locked exit door and certa

Sounds like the Americans before Iraq.

There is a very large diiference, militarily, between of course Israel and the US but more importantly, even US backed Israel versus whomever.

There has been a narrative that attacking Israel is similar to attacking the US from a military standpoint and that isn't close to correct. Israel is relatively fragile.

What Hamas did on Oct 7th has turned out to be unfortunate for both sides.

And probably at least 15000 of that is hamas

Israel's attempt to eliminate Hezbollah within three days could potentially escalate into a global conflict.

However, it is unlikely that such an event will transpire.

Israel's assertive stance is likely a strategic move to deter Hezbollah's actions. While the effectiveness of this approach remains uncertain, it mirrors Israel's response to the recent Iranian missile incident, emphasizing the importance of projecting strength.

abs probably, yeah

I have also read analysis asserting that the IDF is essentially just a large police force. they dont have adequate experience or training in actual combat. Hezbollah meanwhile has been cutting their teeth on the ground against ISIS fundamentalists for the last decade.

I guess we will find out soon enough. really hope not ofc.

Hamas leaders in Doha believe the Biden administration will increase pressure on Israel to reach a hostage release and cease-fire deal only when the IDF withdraws from Rafah, a Palestinian official familiar with the talks told Haaretz. "This could be a new starting point for negotiations, and perhaps the last opportunity before all the parties, especially the Americans, give up," the official said.

That is not happening. I'm not even sure if I'd call it wishful thinking on Hamas part.

At the White House, Gallant said at the start of his meeting with National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan that Israel and the U.S. have the same goals in the war in Gaza, adding that "even when we disagree on the path, we resolve it behind closed doors."

After Gallant's comments, PM Netanyahu said that "when the disputes are not resolved for weeks behind closed doors, the prime minister of Israel needs to speak openly in order to bring what the soldiers need, and that's what has happened this time too."

Also, former Israeli politicians are trying to get Netanyahu’s congress visit canceled

And a large amount of people helping Hamas.

In a speech to his AK Party lawmakers in parliament, Erdogan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu planned to spread the Gaza war to the region.

"It seems that Israel has now turned its eyes on Lebanon after destroying and burning Gaza. We see Western countries giving Israel support behind the scenes," Erdogan said.

"Netanyahu's plans to spread the war to the region will lead to a big catastrophe," he said, adding that the Western support for Israel was "pitiful".

"Turkey stands with the brotherly people and state of Lebanon. I call on other countries in the region to stand in solidarity with Lebanon," he said.

You can hate on bibi all you want, but it's laughable to say that he is trying to start a war with Hezbollah. Hezbollah has decided to get involved unprovoked. You can't say you are shooting missles at Israel until they end their war with hamas and then blame Israel if they decide to go full out war with you

it wasn't even in the same building.

you can dislike his first hand opinion on Israel's apartheid-ness, but try to stick to facts at some point.

I thought they were all supposed to be Hamas? If you live with, near to, are related to, work with or consort with a suspected member of Hamas then according to what I've read itt you are Hamas and deserve to die.

and here it is

Only those working with Hamas. Certainly not those who just live in proximity to them. Certainly not those who are only related to them.

Not quite 38,000 yet, but a 9/11 or two worth of corpses is just a rounding error in this conflict. Plus the bodies yet to be confirmed/found, which will be staggering.

I can't claim to actually know the answer to this question, but I wouldn't have expected the IDF to be on the less experienced and less well-trained end of the global military spectrum.

I wouldnt have either. but this war is showing their lack of discipline and training.

If you are correct and he's telling the truth that even though he was a high school principal and had training about how fire alarms work but he somehow actually beli that pulling it would magically open a locked door, and really did not know that it's a federal crime to pull a fire alarm in a non emergency situation even though to be a principal you obviously learned that, then maybe he lost becsuse people realized he was an idiot

i mean he absolutely "big time'd" it. he thought because he was a big deal congressman that he should be able to get through that door to get to the vote and that pulling the fire alarm would open the fire exit.. is that better or worse for him than doing it to delay a vote? idk. but it's very standard congresscritter behavior to think the rules dont apply.

regardless he was infinitely better for progress and democrats than this republican-lite bought and paid for guy is that has already said he will attempt to torpedo climate change and tax legislation. and that's easy to see from who is celebrating the victory.

I'm sure that makes all the difference to their loved ones when they learn they didn't deserve to be blown to ****.

Not sure when I'll find the time today, but there's a really interesting document floating around on the Day After. It's 30 pages that academics put together that assemble off what was learned from Germany, Japan, Iraq (Isis) and Afghanistan. What HAS to be in place to effectively move on from a radicalized violent group being in control of a territory, and moving into the next phase.

It's super interesting, but I don't want to rush the discussion on it either. I'll summarize it later. but to m

Is the day after plan such a mystery? Seems pretty obvious.
Eradicate Hamas, destroy as much of the tunnel system as possible, especially on the Egyptian border, pull out, then put a blockade on Gaza that makes the last 20 years look like NAFTA and whatever happens after that, **** it. I don't see any democracy building in Gaza's future.
