Ace you made the right decision.
There is someone out there that I know who has done something far worse to one of my daughters. I didn’t find out about it for several years so I didn’t have the immediate red mist/Adrenalin moment when I would have gone totally off the handle. My situation is far more complex because the little **** and his family are very well known to me and me to them. It’s very easy for us all to say (and mean) ‘well I would kill someone who did xxx’ but the reality is that it doesn’t un-do the horrible thing or the damage it did and it potentially ruins your life and also the person close to you who you think you are avenging.

On a less dark note, had to google Lyra Bellacqua, and though I now know who the character is, I still don't get the reference. Also, those books sound dreadfully twee.

I loved the books and have read the entire series twice. More interesting and engaging than Harry Potter imo and the world they’re based in is really cool.
But I definitely accept that genre is not for everyone and tbh it wouldn’t have been for me except I read the first book basically under pressure from a friend of mine and didn’t expect to like it

I had no idea. I always figured it was StreetPokerChick.
I mean, not all young adult fantasy coming of age stories are romance books in disguise, but the wiki summary sure made this one sound like it. OTOH, I really enjoyed Novik's Deadly Education series, and a summary of it might sound just as Twighlighty.

We can’t:won’t. My daughter was 13 and she doesn’t want to for all the reasons you’d expect. The law is stacked against the victim in these things and it just becomes a stressful, humiliating and traumatic process that ultimately gets nowhere - less than 10% of sexual assault charges result in convictions here…and that’s the ones that actually make it to a formal complaint
