I'm confused about the angle of the shot and how a miss doesn't strike someone behind him. Might've been a shot from left to right that knicked him but flew by the stage.
Or one of the SS guys scratched him while tackling him down.

I realize that, but I don't get how this would have been so much more stressful for the police than their regular jobs. DC isn't a small town where Andy Taylor handles everything with no weapons drawn.
I hadn't heard this statistic previously and it seems like there must be more to it. This is in no way meaning to justify anything done by the January 6th mob. I think they should have been shot down on the Capitol steps and any survivors executed for treason.
There were about 20 shots. It looked like he was hit multiple times, not just the graze wound on the ear. You can see a lot of blood on one of the SS agents. Around the torso here:
