2024 World Series of Poker May 28th to July 17th ***No Spoilers***
The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2.
It seems like 8/9 of them are professional players, chip leader the only amateur with a job. Based on news reports.
Hard to believe that the OMC who has been pro for over 20 years would be a winning player anymore against GTO kids, but maybe he still is a small winner. He had stunning wife btw so well played.
Bulgarian guy is a pro and he came 2nd this year EPT Monte Carlo Main Event for a big score. That was large field 5K so insane year for him.
The asian nit has millions in hendon and is a long time pro, but clearly a weak reg with no fire in the belly for the win or even maximizing EV with that pathetic QQ fold.
Serock has amazing vibe and has been a winning reg for over 15 years, won online bracelet last year.
The French guy probably a cash pro or onlibe mid stakes, his hendonmob mostly local small stake mtts.
Spanish guy seems like a decent pro. Multiple cashes from +1k vegas mtts and mid-high online mtts.
Probably the worst play I've ever seen in the Main Event and there have been some doozies. Tamayo is playing like a guy who is not trying to win, only to ladder up a spot or two. He just gave away some free chips. Foxen's raise was her worst play of the entire online stream. She could only beat a bluff and no way is Serock bluffing there! That is, if she was paying attention. This guy had been showing down the best hand on all his raises. In fact pretty much nobody but Sagle had made any meaning
QQ fold worst play? Lol. Run that sht in solver and it does not torch a lot even tho it is a pure 3bet or jam, I dont know which one. He has to play super tight there so it does not make much even tho it is not a fold ever lol.
Did you miss Kristen Foxens punt? Run that in solver, wonder how much equity in $ value its torching, are we talking 5 figures or 6 figures? I think it might even be 6 figures. I solved it for chipEV and her exact suit combo was the worst possible one lol. ChipEV pure call, but with ICM probably a pure fold there? And Serock most likely has less bluffs than GTO there so it becomes even worse.
Oh yeah and Foxen had massive bonus value to become the first woman ever to final table modern main event, she would be in history books and future HOF contender after that. Objectively thinking that was just so bad and she could not think straight under the pressure. No one ends up with that play if there was unlimited time to think about it with no pressure.

got to hold on very tight to the chips when you have both ICM and DEI value to take into account
In a hand that I (and close friends)have no personal stake in, that was the most tilting hand that I have ever seen. I am deeply dismayed. Im canceling my poker go membership. How come this always happens to women approaching the final table? The cruelest randomness imaginable on multiple levels. So sad. see yall some other time when im less tilted. maybe a week or months from now.
Congrats to Kristen for her 12th place finish :( :(
great call on Lena , Loctus.
Randomness
considering the fact that Kristen is a brilliant poker player and this was very clearly a punt, there obviously must have been more to that hand - some read or piece of history that made her do that. Sure, even the best players punt from time to time, but not like this
It was a read based play but definitely a bad read. You can see on her face that she’s not expecting to get snap called there at all. ICM wise it’s an NFL tier punt.

Well if they were analyzing the stream all the time as they should be and most likely did, the read is Serock is underbluffing in that spot.
You think she saw a pulse on his arm or something? Serock was relaxed and most experienced live pro of them all.
She did sick bluffs earlier which luckily went through and she happened to have blocker to the nuts in her hand so she just broke under the pressure. It would have been one of the sickest bluffs ever and bring her stack back up to the top where she peaked at earlier. She probably had these in her mind and whatever else we dont know, and lost the rationale thinking process.
I think I want Griff to win now. He’s the chip leader going in but also an underdog from an overall experience perspective. I like a good underdog story.
Final table end of day 1 chip counts:
Jordan Griff 98,600 1D
Brian Kim 157,000 1D
Niklas Astedt 114,000 1B
Joe Serock 192,600 1D
Jason Sagle 139,700 1D
Boris Angelov 52,500 1C
Jonathan Tamayo Registered 2D
Malo Latinois 70,800 1D
Andres Gonzalez 98,800 1A
didn't realize griff was the one who hit the q first hand then rocketed off
rooting for him too i think

LOL, of course the nit who folded QQ max late regged. Funny.
Foxen had massive bonus value to become the first woman ever to final table modern main event, she would be in history books and future HOF.
Not to mention the tens of millions of dollars in endorsement money Foxen let slip away.
We would have seen Foxen doing more poker commercials than Daniel Negreanu and Jason Alexander, combined.
Looks like a pretty good final table to me, a bit of extra stardust with someone like Mateos/Foxen/Rast would've made it spectacular but can't complain
Very good table? A bunch of guys who don't say a single word, all gto nerds taking 30 sec per move. Not a single pro. No amateur. Let's not forget I haven't seen a single meaningful bluff from almost any of these guys yesterday. Nut low final table. Although they all seem like nice people and I'm happy for them.

You must have a very strange definition of "pro." I assume you mean a pro with wide name recognition among the live poker community.
Krissy is a stone cold killer, ya'll need to stop talking sht. I'd bet Serock double barrels almost 100% of his UTG on AKJ 5 vs her BB in that spot.
Problem was exactly that though, it's her BB vs UTG on UTG's board. In theory, Krissy shouldn't have many bluff jams. She found one and just ran into it. If Serock has AQ or worse and folds you all call her the best female poker player alive. Which she very well could be.

Just because you don't know how Lena900 is doesn't make the table bad. Table would have been better with Foxen from the viewership standpoint, but I'm extremely excited to see Lena's masterclass in ICM that's about to happen on Tuesday.
Has ausmus (or anyone) a chance to overhaul Seiver for POY?
I had been thinking of how many people would've posted if serock had Ax and folded or something like ten eight of hearts she's the greatest player ever
Tomato tomayo guy if he runs QQ into something and busts OMG what an idiot he could've just folded to the final table!
as I said before, it's just unique with the pressure and tiring of the event and the magnification of anything that goes wrong. Everyone thinks they all would've played perfectly though.
Final table wise, personalities aren't there but it's a solid talent mix and different success levels and places they got them. Astedt or Kim probably wins and the other one gets third I'll guess with Griff fourth (he's not really a pro, hard to see him winning despite the solid chip lead).
"not a single pro" I think they all are except Griff. I know you mean "someone people have heard of"
