I got punished in a bunch of all ins last night and somehow didn’t lose much.

Everything was 4 or 5 handed.

Lost all ins:

87 v AT
TT96

87 vs K6dd on 456 dd

KK v AA v XX (didn’t show) on double straddle pot

Could have won heaps, wasn’t mean to be.

Anyone know what the rubber chute on a mower that directs the grass clippings is called?

Redundant.

When ours fell off I didn't notice anything different.

Well, on my riding mower, I could put my foot down into the blades without it, so Imma go ahead and replace it.

Been buried with work. Taking vacation is fraught with peril, given how much piles up while you're gone.

Work for me is a nightmare right now. I have avoided a management role intentionally the last few years, but due to some incompetence in my division I have had to start taking on some managerial tasks. I am currently working with two low performing employees as part of a pre-PIP. One of the two has infuriated me to the point at which my rage may become untethered. Started the process with the mindset of "I would hate for you to lose your job" and I am currently at "this is all on you".

Finally had some time to mow the lawn when the heat index wasn't over 100 (although it was by the time I finished. 103 right now.) Anyone know what the rubber chute on a mower that directs the grass clippings is called? I need to order a new one, as the old one came off and I can't find all the parts.

Chute Assembly?

Wife had that issue. Getting the guy out was a major pain, and she got in some trouble for expressing the guy's incompetence, but her life has been so much better since he's been transferred to the office supply inventory control job, or whatever.

Skip, you have to remember it is business, not personal. Just document everything and move the process as fast as possible.

With feedback meetings or some kind of checkins from the onset through the end of the process.

JFC might be time to quit poker. Three times all in pre for 100BB with KK:

1. vs 99, flop 963ddd and I even have Kd and lose
2. vs AJcc dude goes runner runner flush on a T high board
3. vs T9hh flop 678

...in 59 minutes.

Yeah I know my game is (really?) good, but JFC can we HOLD once?

Been managing projects for 15 years. I start at "this is all on you".

"Bro, you either do the work or you don't. And if you don't, you can't be here. Choice is yours."

Simple. Clinical. Direct. No pussy footing around. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I come from software, so this might not apply to other fields. With respect to Skip's issue, it does depend whether the person is inexperienced and is willing to learn.

My last job, I worked with these long-time consultants who ****ed up literally everything they touched--it was just a matter of degree. Further, doing things a better way (i.e., the manner in which the rest of the planet writes software was "too hard").

I approached the boss on multiple occasions and documented their incompetence. It became clear they weren't going to move on this, so I left.

There's a difference between incompetence and ignorance. Ignorance can be overcome, but it takes effort on that person's part.

But Skip is not in a business, it's lol government.

I have a slightly weird situation.

I took on someone to work with me 10 months ago. No salary, she just gets 70% of what she generates. Very little overhead...we hot desk at a We Work and I pay for her linkedin and microsoft packages.

in $$ terms she's made me a small amount (maybe $10k) but very definitely she's cost me from a value of my time perspective. The economy is so ****ed here and that, plus some bad luck and her not being as good as I'd hoped. I really thought she'd make me 5 times that and she should have.

She's a nice girl and we get on very well which makes it more complex, plus I have so little emotional energy to give anything other than myself right now with the giant mountain of **** I'm wading through in my personal life.

IDK...will just see how it plays out for the next few months
I'm staggered that she's still keen to keep going - she's pregnant now so will be off from Jan for a while but wants to come back afterwards. Fortunately I won't have to pay her any maternity cover but I need to see how she goes the next 4-5 months before deciding if I want her back. And I'm tempted to find someone else while she's off...who would hopefully do better. Wouldn't be good optics if I then don't ask her back, but I'm hoping she might want the stability of a full time role and guaranteed salary post baby.

Congrats on the new kid!

Congrats on the new kid!

Oh man, that would be a complication I don’t need right now. I’m very lucky that I’m not attracted to her

oh man, sorry she shot you down

Try again in a few months when those pregnancy hormones are really kicked in. I hear they do wonders for the libido.

Plus, I can’t get her pregnant now so no need for a raincoat

That's actually what I was brought in for. So, with both I am advising them about their work process, reviewing what has/has not been done, and tracking everything they do. It's really not supposed to be my job though and it is preventing me from getting my work done (although I was told not to worry about that atm I still do.)

Not being the manager, I couldn't say exactly that, but I did tell the one not doing anything that I have seen these situations play out and I know what brass in DC wants to see and what will be required to keep the job. I think the biggest issue is she doesn't think they will actually terminate her (they will).

Who broke the thread and kept you wankers from chatting?

Missed the window, slow pony, my excuse is a meeting request

The thing about a meeting with Zoltan is that he immediately sends you 3 more Outlook appointments for back to back meetings, mostly on the same subject.

My last rec pokr playing losing month was June of 2023, so I've got a stoopid little 13 month win streak going.

For August 2024, I'm currently up... $3.
