Triplechain

Triplechain

For the puzzle maniacs under you: this game is a must. It is a very simple, yet very deep game. It is a very quick game - just a couple of minutes to complete it.

You play 1-2 games and you understand the rules
You play 10-20 games and you have found a decent strategy
You play 100-200 games and every time you find ways to optimize, adjust and tune your play.

The game´s website is here

The game was invented by zac777 and introduced in this 2+2 thread here.

There are different modes of play:

 • Normal
 • Advanced, in which you can manipulate throws. You will be able to manipulate more if you play more, gain more points and move up in player level.
 • Timed, real time multiplayer mode with chat. 3 minutes per game and everyone faces the same 9 throws, trying to outscore each other. Very challenging. My favorite mode.
 • Daily challenge, in which everyone can participate and try and make the maximum score with a fixed sequence of throws. Find the path to the topscore and beat the rest of the world. I try and find a moment every day to compete in the daily challenge (currently 14 wins 😃)

You will need to create an account to play advanced, timed or the daily challenge.

An utterly sick strat post was made by Dynasty here. Don´t read this until you have played at least 10-20 games.

Here's the result of my daily game from yesterday. My final play was a 6 in the upper center which didn't show up and instead my 6's didn't get counted as snaked. My last 3 plays were extremely slow to respond. I ended up with a 10k score instead of a 30k+ score. Not sure what happened here.

It is showing your 6s connected in the results now but still not recognizing the last 6 (north zone) or counting it. You should have 1650/640/144 = 31642 (same as SmallTownBoy). Tied 14th.

I'll let Zac know but in the past it has been hard to find the reason for these rare, "one off" glitches.

Yep, very hard to track these down. Some weird timing issue probably involving the lag.

I fixed the score and display by hand, but unfortunately lilrascal will still be down a fraction of a DC rating point.

That's OK, I just mainly wanted to get the data out there about the bug. Sometimes the little things maybe the ones to help solve it.

August 2024 DC Highlights

Monthly Race

 • arjun13 won his fourth monthly DC race of the year in August. arjun13 led the table with 25 top-10 scores, 18 of which were in the top 5, and tied for third in wins with 5. arjun’s 328 DC points for the month were the most for anyone since he scored 330 in December 2021. It was arjun’s 34th monthly win – the most all-time – and his 27th straight monthly top-10 finish.

 • consul finished second in August, his first-ever appearance in the top two. consul dominated the DC race in the first half of the month, posting three wins and six other top-five scores in the first two weeks of the month. Despite three more wins in the second half of the month, however, consul was eventually caught by arjun13. Nonetheless, consul tied for the most wins in August and was second in both top-10 scores (21) and top-five scores (15).

 • dogfloss, quaspl, and Derwi rounded out the top five, separated by a total of just five points. dogfloss tied with consul for the most wins and was part of a three-way tie for the third-most top-10 scores. quaspl, whose fourth-place finish was a personal best, tied arjun13 with five wins during the month. Derwi posted nine top-two scores, the most of anyone in August.

 • Among the rest of the top 10, Dynasty tied with SubArcticK for seventh place, but his four second-place scores in August gave him the tiebreaker; velourfog’s second-place score on August 30 moved him into ninth place; and NP’s sixth-place score on August 31 moved him into a tie with anton-09 for tenth place, and NP won the tiebreaker with two second-place scores during the month. anton-09, SmalltownBoy, and nails finished just outside the top 10.

Milestones

 • On August 16, anton-09 played in his 5,000th DC, the third player to reach this milestone.
 • On August 19, dogfloss played in her 5,000th DC, the fourth player to do so.
 • On August 24, quaspl won his 50th DC, the 38th player to do so.

Stats of the Month

 • 15: The number of players who won the DC on August 24, the most winners in a single DC since May 2021.
 • 11: The number of players who amassed at least 200 DC points in August, which is the most ever. The previous record was eight. (And we’ve had months, most recently in January 2022, when no one reached 200 DC points.)
 • 66: The total number of wins in August, 12th-most all-time and the most since 71 in January 2023.

My DC setup yesterday (9/24) felt like a complete trainwreck.

Then, around rack 8, I started thinking "this just might steal a win".

My DC setup yesterday (9/24) felt like a complete trainwreck.

Then, around rack 8, I started thinking "this just might steal a win".

I was flat-out shocked that I was in first after I played that DC (before you landed there with a considerably better score). The whole thing was a trainwreck until rack 9, when every half-assed chain I had going hit what it needed and I tripled my overall score (7000 to 21700). Even after that, I didn't figure on being even remotely near the top.

Man, when it comes to DCs this month (season.....year....lol ) can't end too soon. The random number generator in rack 9 just hates me....lol

Felt like with some run-good I could have had 9 or 10 wins this month, and maybe 7 or 8 with just normal rack 9 variance. Few days ago could not even win when I had about 95% equity into rack 9.

I certainly have to tighten up some things (i.e., stop the careless errors - a mistake on the 25th was pathetic ). But, I still don't recall such a bad and extended pounding.

Oh well, the tide will change I guess. .Or, not...lol

EDIT: Just publicly whining to change my luck....😀😆

PS. In reviewing some bad beats I could not help but notice that waffles is getting smacked around pretty hard as well...

TC Guillotine Tourny is back starting the 10/1! Same rules as last year apply. Don’t be last and survive. No preregistration required. Simply play the DC 10/1 (and everyday after) and you’re in! Full rules to be posted in the coming days. Let me know if you have any questions!

3rd best month ever in terms of DC points if I'm not mistaken, nice work.

September 2024 DC Highlights

Monthly Race

 • After two consecutive months outside of the top 10, SmalltownBoy came back with a vengeance in September, posting one of the most dominant performances in the history of the DC. StB had 9 wins, tied with Dynasty (November 2019) and SubArcticK (September 2018) for the second-most ever in a single month. And SmalltownBoy’s 372 DC points in September were the third-highest monthly total in DC history. StB tied for the most top-10 scores (21), and his 17 top-5 scores led the table. It was SmalltownBoy’s sixth monthly DC win.

 • arjun13 finished in second place in September. Initially, arjun picked up where he left off in August, winning three consecutive DCs to start the month – the 37th hat trick in DC history and the first in 13 months. Although SmalltownBoy eventually caught up and overtook him, arjun posted 8 wins (tied for fifth-most all-time) and 19 top-10 scores. arjun also extended his top-10 streak to 28 consecutive months, tied for third-most in DC history and the longest active streak.

 • Dynasty, anton-09, and nails rounded out the top five. Dynasty had three wins and tied with SmalltownBoy for the most top-10 scores (21), while anton-09 and nails were third (5) and fourth (4) in wins, respectively.

 • Among the rest of the top 10, NP (sixth place) posted two wins in the final week of the month to move up the standings; SubArcticK (ninth place) extended his top-10 streak to 8 consecutive months; and Dos (tenth place) had just 12 top-10 scores for the month. wafflesobv, dogfloss, and velourfog finished just outside the top 10.

Milestones

 • On September 18, Derwi played in his 4,500th DC, the fifth player to reach this milestone.
 • On September 4, nails played in his 3,000th DC, the 17th player do so.
 • nails also surpassed 15,000 DC points during the month, the 17th player to reach that level.
 • On September 29, quaspl played in his 1,000th DC, the 39th player to do so.
 • On September 5, dogfloss won her 400th DC, the third player to reach this milestone.
 • On September 20, velourfog won his 350th DC, the sixth player do so, and consul won his 250th DC, the 11th player do so.

Stat of the Month

 • 25.2: The average number of players in the DC in September. That’s the most since January 2023.

As I said, lolvariance

Is Arjun's score the highest ever to not win the monthly race?

Nice month, Gaby. I am not bitter at all about getting robbed

No. You finished second in December 2023 with 311. I think there are a couple others, too.

Hey all, I'm finally taking on the project of performing 11 years worth of upgrades on the triplechain infrastructure. I have a mostly working version up, so I'd appreciate if some of you could poke around and let me know what's still broken. It has a snapshot of data from a couple weeks ago, but eventually everything new will be wiped and I'll synch it to the live site. I'll have more details about the switchover when I feel like it's in a good enough state, but it should largely be seamless. Thanks!

The IP address of the new site is https://24.199.71.69.

Feel free to drop feedback here or email me at zrandles@gmail.com

Just posting the feedback I sent to Zac in case others notice the same issues (or not??)

Hi Zac

I have not spent much time on the new site, but here is what I noted.

1. All the links in "help" seem to work, except that the "Daily Challenge Race" is linked to the 2020 race, and not the current (2024) race.

2. In timed when I started a game the advanced screen came up for the game instead of the normal mode.

3. The Puzzles section appears to only show me puzzles I have completed. Every puzzle has a check mark beside it. On the current site there are green check marks for ones I have completed and red X's for ones I have not. It does not appear to be a filter problem, as the filters when I sign in on puzzles appear to be the same on both sites.

4. The font size and trophies seem small, but not really in a way that creates extra space. Not that any extra space is needed. Will the font be that small on the new site?

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to check or try.

I assume identical boards have been produced in the past?

From a statistical point of view, if dice placement were random, the probability must be astronomically small. With strategy it still.must be quite unlikely

sudo summon nails

Amazing first win for lostnhot on their first DC

Thanks ArcticKnight for the feedback. I've cleaned up everything you mentioned except the advanced/timed confusion, which I couldn't reproduce. Do you remember your order of operations to make that happen?

I think https://24.199.71.69 looks ok enough to make the transition, but it would be nice to have a couple more people poke around to see if there are obvious bugs before I move everything. I'm especially interested in mode transition bugs, where moving from one game style to another causes weirdness (daily challenge => free move => advanced => timed, things like that). Replay a game, then hit the back button or visit timed mode - does the replayed game "leak" through?

I didn't intentionally make any big behavior changes, but it's inevitable that things will shift around when the foundation is ripped out and replaced. The styling is especially tricky to get totally nailed down.

I will probably do a few more things around the edges before I make the switch, but if all goes well I'll target next Tuesday.

Hi folks

I created a 4 person (3 game) tourney in the new site Zac is working on. Could 3 others please join so we can troubleshoot before the new sight goes live?

URL is above. Post any glitches.

Thanks

further feedback sent to Zac

Hi Zac

I tried to replicate the advanced game showing up in timed, but it seems ok now. All I did (both times) was sign-in, go to timed and then wait for the board to show up after 30 seconds. Right now it is coming up normal mode.

Working

-I checked the Tournaments tab under “Winners” to see if any changes I make to the Google Sheets page are coming up on the new site. All seems to be working fine.

-I also checked the Google Doc that waffles, nails and I use to update the Tourney News (under the Help section), and it is also working fine and reflecting changes/additions.

-The noted change to Daily Challenge Race link from 2020 to 2024 is working on my end.

-when I check my profile (clicking on my name) the content looks normal

Not Working

- I can’t seem to replay any past DCs. Clicking on the score usually initiates a replay, but it is not working for me. In fact, I can’t replay any games that one normally could (advanced games on the top list, or normal games on the top daily list.

-When I click on a puzzle that I have not done (has a red X) it won’t load for me.

-In practice mode you can’t remove a placed number by dragging it to the little box. You can on the current site.

-A potential problem. When you go to Tourney’s and click on a tourney that you have signed up for, but have not yet started, there is a “leave” option. Pressing the leave button removes you from the tourney, and this may cause confusion if you just want to leave the page. I looked at the current site and I guess why there is no confusion now is that your message says “leave tournament.” Maybe you could keep the old message.

I am guessing that some other problems may only surface once the changeover starts. We just don’t seem to have enough people trying things out so see whether timed works with more than one person, whether tourneys run ok, whether DCs work normal with many players, etc.

FYI, I put a 4 person tourney up and hopefully we will get it going and the players can pass on any feedback.

Hey everyone,

triplechain.net is now hosted on a new site. It follows best practice and uses https rather than http, which may cause issues if your web browser has saved settings for the old site.

I've found that using https://www.triplechain.net seems to get around those (if you used www already, using https://triplechain.net may be the fix for you).

Please let me know if the site is totally broken or there are major bugs. I know the UI isn't totally clean, but I'll defer visual issues until I'm confident that it's running correctly.

Cheers,
Zac

The tournament Daje 4 says I need to play, but it's a completed tournament.

I just tried to create a tournament and it threw an error and it logged me out when I refreshed to get rid of the error. It then let me create the tournament.
