2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
bruh, you came in here with a straight face and tried to argue soes were given less governmental support as american car manufacturers
not even pinko commie victor would have attempted that kind of mental gymnastics - he'd just keep it simple and instead say the american car companies were more evil

If Trump had invested his father's inheritance in the S&P 500 he would be wealthier than he is today. And I mean actual wealth, not the inflated net worth Trump throws around.
Yeah, the poor bugger. He could have been really wealthy not the $7.5 billion pauper he is today.
What’s Donald Trump really worth? People have been asking the question for decades, though never with as much urgency as they are today. The answer: $7.5 billion, according to our most recent tally, last updated on May 2, 2024. Below, Forbes offers an asset-by-asset breakdown of the Trump fortune.

Must be windy where you are since the point flew entirely over your head. His wealth is not a function of his abilities but of the wealth he inherited. He would be wealthier had he done absolutely nothing but invest in an index fund after his father died vs what he actually did.

LOL
I think the point flew over your head, not mine.
I didn't know Canada was a national security threat or what retaliation they needed before Biden imposed Tariffs on CDN soft wood lumber and other items ?
Also if Climate change is such a huge threat and you want everyone to drive electric cars why impose a 100% tariff on Chinese electric cars ?
Missed this.
The claim is that Canada unfairly subsidizes their soft lumber industry. I personally don’t agree, but that’s the retaliatory interest.
Also the reason why you don’t want China to control the EV market is because they are communists and manipulate the market through various tactics including providing immense amount of start ups and price controls. We don’t want communists to succeed because they are evil and steal our intellectual property.
Yeah, not so much. Forbe's current estimate is half that:
you should have logged onto your lucium account for that one bub
he's literally the only president to leave office without markedly different facial structure in our entire history because for him it was not the daily grind where he's working from waking up until they fall asleep but instead just a few hours a day of hearing 5 minute pitches and saying yes or no and then leaving the room
I believe Pence via Manafort/Stone took the Kasich deal. Go look at some pics of him--he's the one who did all of the aging and was most likely 'running things' day to day. trump basically fell back on who he knew the first time and he's always been a classic frontman(just like he was for dad for years). He's had more time to feel out and field offers this time around--so that's how you get Vance/Thiel. I'm sure there's some trade involved money/etc and it is a powerful sales pitch--you get to be the actual guy I just want the spotlight/whatever I can scoop up along the way 😀
looked it up

his day didn't start until after 11 am
that feels overly generous he spent 1 out of every 3 days as president staying at one of his private residences instead of the white house
he went golfing 307 times as president - nearly 1/5th of his time in office was spent golfing
he spent 50k of his own money to upgrade the golf simulator at the white house
the ironic part is he heavily criticized obama for golfing too much and then he spends way more time golfing and even staying at golf resorts than obama did
easily the laziest president we've ever had by a long shot, didn't start his day until past 11
those charts are misleading as well imo, including sick outliers like bush 41 really de-emphasizes just how much less time working he spent compared the rest
American women don't need a 'protector' — especially not one like Trump
"You will be protected, and I will be your protector.”
Former President donald trump
women voters, in overwhelming numbers, say that they want access to abortion care,
Trump continues to misdiagnose both the symptoms and the cure to our post-Roe health crises
Trump is seemingly hellbent on trying to cast a spell over women voters, conjuring up lie
after lie about how his policies will somehow make women healthier, safer and more free
An estimated 25 million women live in a state without access to abortion care,
thanks to our would-be “protector,” leaving women to bleed out in hospital parking lots,
slip into comas due to preventable infections, and in the cases of Amber Nicole Thurman
and Candi Miller, die, all as a direct result of their states’ near-total abortion bans.
There is zero chance you've actually read about how Trump's casinos went bankrupt because if you did you'd learn it was his decision to expand his holdings at the absolute peak of the market in AC, when there was already far too much supply on the market. He was unable to make his debt payment on the Taj just a year after it opened. He expanded supply beyond demand, which not only destroyed the Taj but his other holdings as well.
your right i haven't
but it's silly to blame him for something which impacted many casino owners all at the same time when you could ya know, just focus on something else, like something more applicable such as his conduct in office perhaps?
One of the key things that happened was that Trump was asked by the NJ gaming commission if he was going to use junk bonds at like 14% to fund his purchases because they said they wouldn't allow it. So Trump told them he had a loan lined up at a bank. But he didn't. He ended up taking out junk bond loans at about 14% and in the end wasn't able to pay them back. I think he may not even have been able to pay as much as the interest.
The other key thing that happened was that the first casino he bought he was partnering with MGM which likely would have worked. But when Trump bought the other two casinos MGM sold their half of the first casino to him because they didn't want to compete with Trump across the street. So he basically screwed himself.
Its not the first time that Trump bought properties not based on their actual worth but because he actually wanted to buy them. He did that with the Plaza Hotel in NYC and paid like 2.5x the actual value because they didn't want to sell it. Then he couldn't make money so he turned it into a co-op...
those charts are misleading as well imo, including sick outliers like bush 41 really de-emphasizes just how much less time working he spent compared the rest
You're missing the point. Everyone knows trump was never there lol. Because he wasn't the 'real' President--just the guy doing the media stuff etc. Pence was. And Vance will be if they win this time 😀
Kasich(their initial choice iirc) claimed he met with trump's people and got that exact offer. You run policy and I'll maga it up.
Go ahead and share the brilliance of the point you were making that you think wasn't obvious and went over my head. Here's your post:

i'm with you but don't see how it could have been pence though

I think it was Chris Christie. They offered him the VP and said his role would be leading on foreign and domestic policy. He asked what the president would be doing and they told him making america great again. Shockingly, the administration would later struggle with policy and legislation.
You don't see how Pence being the guy in charge of policy got a standard R tax cut and RvW overturned(which trump has been trying to minimize since) and all of the zaniness wrt gay/trans people? You think trump cares? lol Who did he formally put in charge of the major problem--covid(aside from the press conferences)? Pence 😀 The only redline he had was related to ukraine/russia in the R platform.
Remember how every conservative was saying huh trump policy is pretty much bog standard R except for the mean tweets? It's all right there. And Pence looks like he got hit with the age stick.
It's incredibly gratifying to watch real americans act like this despite Trump and Vance attempting to get them to act the opposite way.

Solidarity Overcomes Hate as Residents Flock to Haitian-Owned Restaurants in Springfield Ohio Amidst Trump’s Baseless Claims
In Springfield, Ohio, a wave of support for the local Haitian community has surged ever since former President Donald Trump falsely claimed during a televised debate that Haitian immigrants in the area were consuming cats and dogs. The remarks, made on September 10, sparked outrage, but they have also ignited solidarity, with locals and out-of-towners flocking to Haitian-owned businesses like Rose Goute Creole to show their support.
Located on South Limestone Street, Rose Goute Creole has been busier than ever. A line of customers stretches out the door, while kitchen staff hustle to serve plates of herring patties, rice and beans, and barbecued chicken. Cars from neighboring states like Georgia, Wisconsin, and Indiana pack the parking lot, with patrons stopping by on their travels to lend a hand and show their backing for the Haitian community.

fair point, i don't think pence was mentioned once in either book i read from embedded reporters though so if he was doing the heavy lifting it was as a skunkworks
