New York City Area Hype Discussion

New York City Area Hype Discussion

Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?

What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?

On the one hand there shouldn’t be any impact, on the other hand if there is an impact it can’t be good lol

I mean at least its happening now and not right before a decision is expected to be made

It can't be a helpful thing. But he was always going to be a lame duck by the time of the community committees.

I see Steve cohen is tweeting about a casino at Citi field.

I'm a bit torn about it as I became a met fan because my dad had a mechanic shop in the iron triangle. the place that the govt is forcing out shops with eminent domain

I’m rooting for the Citifield proposal, but it’s not super likely IMO. They have the community opposition every proposal has, plus they need to get approved to use city parkland.

That said if the casino doesn’t go there something else is, there’s no way they’re letting all that land stay shops indefinitely

as a die hard Mets fan that I am , and as much as I want to see a casino in the boroughs , them snatching up land to build casinos/bars/mall is very wrong imo. these are businesses that own the land fair and square and the govt has been trying to kick them out. none of us would like that done to our home or business location.

To be half half of those places are chop shops that steal parts off of cars while people are inside watching Mets games.

lol not true . many businesses have been there for decades . there are little restaurants there as well. its crazy logic on your part to say that in a way to make that a fair use of eminent domain .

Not an expert in politics, but will the adams mess delay this any further than its already being delayed?

At least Adams isn't accused of taking bribes from casino execs...

Yet…

He probably didn’t because he has no direct control over the process, but I also wouldn’t rule anything out at this point

Looks like Hochul is gonna propose what Ramos wouldn’t - legislation to allow city parkland to be used for the Citifield proposal.

Idk much about politics, but seems to me if she proposes it, it will go through.

Idk if that actually means they’re much more likely to score a license, but it would make me soooooo happy lol

Well, it would move him up a step from "can't even apply." (Because bids with that sort of thing outstanding won't even be considered.)

It probably makes sense for any necessary legislative stuff to be bundled together in one Hochul-proposed package in the name of keeping bidders' chances otherwise level and not pinned on any one local member. The community approval stage gives the local reps their chance. Dunno how likely she is to be able to sell that argument to a majority, but I guess we'll find out in April.

I know it doesn't meant that much but Hard Rock in AC doesn't have poker so it makes me slightly worried that this one wouldn't either if approved.

They also have poker in other venues, though. The lack of a room in AC is due to over saturation and a small market, neither of which would be issues here

Hochul denied any intent to push the land rezoning in her budget, seems this was all just a political spar between her and the NYP lol

Or she wants Cohen to stop calling her...or she wants to string him along... Budget stuff is months away (if it's not March, nobody's really looking at it that seriously), and there are a few other things going on at the moment.

Been depressing how little news we got last year, but things seem to be picking up. It seems like the process will have concluded by the end of the year, and while I'm not getting my hopes up, the people in charge are expressing optimism it will be done by EOY and that's a distinct change from what it's been like so far

There are some good insights in the article above, but I still think Empire City, Resorts World and Sands Long Island are the clear favorites here.

You would have to think Wynn Hudson Yards and Caesar's Times Square would bring int he most money, though, so I am curious to see how this will all play out

They're part of this network of games that says they charge time rake, but then there's a million little things they do to rake you more. The games are fine, from what I've heard, but I think the rake will end up being more than the standard $20-$25 you see being taken off the table.

What day are of the week are you looking to play and where in the city will you be? I could see what else might work for you.
