2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
Sure it is. Nate and other public forecasters try to heavily weigh polls from reliable firms and discard the ones that seem like junk. Unless you have evidence that Trump and Harris have their own team of much better forecasters, it's hard to see why they'd have a better handle on the race. The simple truth is that no one will really know what the good polls were until after everyone's voted.
See, it's much more pleasant for both of us when you stop pretending you can't read.
Most news sources don't act like Silver or 538. They just report the raw numbers, including the biased ones. Not a major site (although at least as prominent as The Silver Bulletin), but right now Real Clear Politics has Trump winning every battleground.
And you almost made it until the end without a dishonest pithy comment. But I guess we'll have to be happy with baby steps as long as there is progress.
all bill proposals should be standalone imo.
way too much handwaving and accusations by both parties claiming the other party rejected x, when really it was coupled with a bunch of other things.
Either this or the equivalent when voting, you should be allowed to vote for a provision and against another one in the same bill
We can be voting for more than one thing as well, but yes it there are more items to count, get more people to do the counting? it's 100% feasible and not doing it is a choice, and imho it's a terrible choice.
Those are deliberate choices. Which btw is why some states count very quickly in the USA, so those that don't, don't as a political choice.
Can you guess which party has led to more states having terrible counting practices, like not being able to count mail in ballots until the day of in person voting?
Think hard now, I know this is a tough one.
Here Princenton Engineering (which i hope you won't find biased) on machine voting
as for ID i agree that if it becomes mandatory in order to vote, it should be issued for free. Afaik NC already does that, possibly other states as well

We can't know the extent of voting fraud because it's literally imp
Does Italy have some kind of law that prevents dementia patients from being able to vote?
You can transfer $250k to almost anywhere in the world over your phone in 10 seconds, but we have to vote like it's 1820 because SECURITY!!!!!! What a joke.
You can choose your level of security for money transferring which is why I don't have abilitated bank wires from my cell phone and I have a physical token to operate on my bank account and so on.
That some people prefer speed to security it's their prerogative but it doesn't affect me so I don't care.
Voting "like it's 1820" btw allows quick counting (and re-counting when required) as Italy proves, why incur risks when that set of procedures is time tested, and delivers quickly and reliably?

crypto solves both these. fast and secure.

Is there any information about the counting of votes? I tried looking for it and couldn’t find anything. Remember, US is one of the most scrutinized elections in the world while most don’t especially care who wins the Italian election except when you vote in the far right.

Not automatically anymore, we did till 1980. Relatives can ask to "legally interdict" (remove the ability to sign contracts and so on) but afaik that doesn't remove the right to vote.
but we don't have mail voting.
A demented person voting randomly or without understanding and so on isn't fraud though.
Someone else filing his form is.

You mean in Italy? 6 people every precint + party representatives to check, approx a precint every 1000 potential voters
If you can be threatened to give out credentials you are not secure.
I have physical token at home so you need to threaten me at home, and I have a hard limit of wire size through online banking that I can only change with a physical signature in the bank in real life.
That's security
Pencil?
Sounds like it would be super easy for someome to erase and refill an entry. Why do you want to make voter fraud so easy?
Easy? Votes are opened in the presence of public officials and representatives of parties.
And they are special undeletable pencils.

Correct.
So make it so you can't be threatened.
If the US did that, does that mean Trump wouldn't be able to vote for himself?
Actually, can he even do that now, what with being a convicted felon?
Yes he can vote
I agree with the bolded, but why does that imply undecided voters break favorably for Trump? In other words, if an undecided voter is choosing based on policy or some reason other than Trump being a risk for democracy, why is that person more likely to eventually vote for Trump?
Demographics matter more for undecided voters than anything else. It doesn't really matter why they are undecided or why they say they are undecided. If undecideds right now are mostly white, non college christian etc Trump is up. If they are college educated, non white, younger etc Harris is up. It's sort of funny when you see articles saying Trump is under performing with white rurals vs 2020 or Harris well below Biden with Arab Americans because the conclusion you should take is usually the opposite of what the writer intends.

That’s not how precincts work in the US, but ours comes out to abour 1500 per polling place at least in 2016.

On absentee voting, btw, there is the ability to investigate those at least in CA because if someone drops your ballot off for you, you have to indicate who it was that you are authorizing to drop off the ballot on your behalf, plus there is signature verification. So you can’t just sell your ballot and have them fill it out because it can be audited against your DMV records. Ergo there should be at least some evidence of this if it’s a widespread thing that’s happening.

You can sell the *normal way*, same as if you could took a picture inside the voting booth, by filing and sending a picture, or by filing it with the buyer present.
When the topic was non partisan the WaPo wrote about it like this

Ah yes, an article about people getting caught doing voter fraud is your proof that this type of voter fraud is undetectable. Good one bro.
