Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
RFK has sprouted a lot of nonsense in his life, both decades ago and recently (afterall he as a democract "champion of the environment", hard to find any who isn't a complete charlatan), but he is 100% correct that we shouldn't trust experts just because of credential, that it is disastrous to try to claim we should, and moreover given that there isn't consensus among experts about most relevant topics today (including HOW to tackle climate change, or how to manage covid) , it is basically fraud

When government takes decisions you think they choose one expert out of the bunch to make policies instead of the current science based on hundreds if not thousands of studies from experts ….

That is why people go see “second opinion” in medical issues when terrible news hit them for example.
But after gaining 5 “second opinion” claiming the same what you think it means ?!?!
How does this work in practice. An orthopedic surgeon tells me that I have a torn ligament in my knee and that I need surgery. I have confirmed that my surgeon has a medical degree, works at a good hospital, and has a good reputation. We know that those steps aren't sufficient to assure trustworthiness from your perspective because plenty of people who satisfied those criteria were recommending vaccines, social distancing, etc. during COVID.
What is the next step in assuring trustworthiness?

How does it work in practice: you ask experts for opinions on say whatever policy you want to implement and you get a whole range of answers every time.
So when presenting your plan to the public you don't claim "science is on your side" because it never is as science has no consensus on basically everything controversial (and even when it does, that doesn't mean it won't change in the future).
You never use the experts opinion as a validation for your tradeoff preferences. You own them politically.
You claim you want to help x and damage y in society because you think it's proper.
There is and can't be any expertise on TRADEOFFS. Your surgeon opinion about how many nurses are needed in society isn't an "expert opinion".
He will ask for a ****ton of nurses because that would make his job better but he can't weight the same resources being spent on any other possible direction and prove that nurses are the best option among all the possible options, which is what politics is about.
There can't be any expertise in tradeoffs.
Claiming one exists is fraud.
So you only trust for tradeoffs people who clearly SHARE YOUR VALUE PREFERENCES. Because that's how you can believe their considerations would be what you, with expertise, would have considered.
So anyone with leftism in his personal history is to be removed from the conversation completely everytime you discuss any tradeoff and you aren't leftist.
All of the that satisfied those criteria were recommending covid vaccines and social distancing during covid, and still recommend vaccines now. The qualified, good reputation exceptions to that were and are VANISHINGLY rare, but amplified by the nutjobs and bolstered by the unqualified/horrific reputations.
Recommending vaccination was sound advice (first two doses, the rest isn't as obvious for the general population).
But "experts" definitely didn't stop there.
A ton of "experts" defended mandates. Not a vanishingly rare amount of them.

Absolutely YES they choose the experts that agree with their side every time lol.
Just think judicial picks, there are entire judicial philosophies with very different opinions on some ultra important matters of the law and you pick your side when you name judges. Dems do it and the GOP does it.

Who told you the other planets are heating up? Actually, I don't care who told you, it's not true. For a start, even if we currently have a method of measuring surface temperature on other planets to within 1 or 2 degrees, we certainly haven't had this method for anywhere near long enough to make such a claim.
