Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
A lot of things are beyond you, Luckbox. Sometimes when you're perplexed about something, it helps to chat with someone who is in the same boat. Luckily, chez is here to help.
It's not actually beyond me fwiw. I can fully appreciate how if math is what you know best you'll want to elevate knowing it to a high position. No real mystery there. It's cute.
Why you guys act like knowing some math is the pinnacle of human achievement is beyond me.
It helps when he thinks everyone else can't do it. It makes him feel really clever
Interestingly (to me anyway) I wrote a post a long time ago,in conversation with another of D2's idiots, about the ability to complete the square.
I was talking about children though.

Vinny: Lisa, I don't need this. I swear to God, I do not need this right now, okay? I've got a judge that's just aching to throw me in jail, an idiot who wants to fight me for two hundred dollars, slaughtered pigs, giant loud whistles. I ain't slept in five days. I got no money, a dress code problem, and a little murder case which, in the balance, holds the lives of two innocent kids, not to mention your (stamps foot three times) biological clock; my career, your life, our marriage, and let me see, what else can we pile on? Is there any more **** we can pile on to the top of the outcome of this case?! (Stares upward to indicate him thinking of anything else) Is it possible?! (looks up again)
Mona Lisa: Maybe it was a bad time to bring it up.

You know how cute it is? The device you are using to write that very post was invented by mathematicians (some, applied), not spiritualists or conspiracy theorists.
There is an alternative within the american 2 party system which is primaries.
Even if you dislike the outcome, you can't deny the "tea party" primary season(s) had a big impact.
To a lower extent the "squad" got a foothold in Congress in a similar way.
Primaries aren't controlled especially at the congressional level. Yes I can see that Bernie might have been scammed in the 2016 primaries, but even if that happened it was only because he had a small majority (possibly) and they could scam it out
True.
I'm sure the reasons this doesn't happen much are complex.
An obvious one is that it takes voters a lot of time and energy to learn about primary candidates other than for president.
Establishment candidates will be backed by the media and have large budgets. Anti-corruption candidates will rely on individual donors and social media.
If such a candidate wins, their own party will often go to war trying to get them out in the next primary.
This and other stuff contributes to apathy.
However, it seems like big money and corporate media backing are becoming less important. So maybe this can improve.

Wow, chez. You made an effort to write coherently this time. Must have taken a lot out of you - felt strongly about a point to make?
Did it help you understand anything? I'm skeptical

Decent, but hardly the best scene. Don't expect more from a yute, though.
I think the "yute" scene, the "I'm not here for you to jack me off" scene, the montage with the witnesses before ole boy gets fired and the "discovery" scene all have to be my joint favourites.
Wait, I have so many more. The leather jacket scene. The "everything that guy said is bullshit" scene. The sex scene with the arguing/debating about water pressure.
Basically, every scene. It's one of my favourite movies.
I think i'm allowed to wear a tie if I really want to
edited: prefer this

Chez, what in God's name are you babbling about.

I like it bc it’s the only scene she admits he could be right but I agree there are a ton of very funny scenes. it’s a top ten comedy movie imho.
It's both amusing and disheartening to see everyone arguing about the voting tendencies of various demographics and pretending like it means anything. No one offered objective criteria on which to judge the parties or candidates and for what reasons. You've reduced people to nothing more than sex and education, and act that as if college educated people or those with STEM degrees are more likely to vote a certain way, it somehow means they're right.
"People that we think are very smart are not necessarily very smart. They are more likely to be educated their particular field or very experienced in their careers, and we confuse that with smartness. So when we call upon experts, we hear them say whatever it is they have to say, but that doesn't mean they have any analytical ability; that doesn't mean they have the ability to process the information at hand. That's really more what intelligence is.....
People tend to think that scientists are the smartest people in the world, and the smartest people in the world should become scientists. I disagree with that completely. When I look back at my old life, when I was a kid...no one gave me any encouragement. This is not a complaint. This is a fact of life. It's not a big deal. It didn't bother me back then, and I don't really think it bothers me now. But at the time...women weren't thought to be suited to do anything in particular with their intelligence, but the one possible exception would be: if you were smart, you'd go into a scientific field, naturally, and no one said that to me, but looking back, that was really the only option (if I had options), and back then, I couldn't imagine looking at the world through a microscope or a telescope. That was anathema to me. I just don't feel that I could have focused that tightly on something all the time. Fine for school; fine for certain limited tasks, but not as a worldview. I wanted something much broader than that." —Marilyn vos Savant

I understand there are strong feelings and sometimes we may feel justified in our comments, but it is still against the forum guidelines to repeatedly call another poster stupid, not that bright, etc. Its bullying and it needs to stop.
