2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?
T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.
So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!
Cubs trade for Kyle Tucker of the Astros.
Astros receive 3b Isaac Paredes, 3b prospect Cam Smith, and pitcher Hayden Wesneski in return.
Now to see if the Cubs can sign Tucker to an extension. He will be a FA after 2025 if not.
One year of Tucker will definitely fix the Cubs. He'll be asking for over $350mil in FA.
Philadelphia Phillies made a play for Houston Astros right fielder Kyle Tucker—offering up right fielder Nick Castellanos and infielder Alec Bohm in the deal.
That is legit funny.
Man Astros really got over on the cubs
Wtf was the point of that
I’m really sad Max Fried is a Yankee.
But I wouldn’t give him or almost any other pitcher 8 years, $200M, so happy for him, I guess.
Other teams in the division may out dumb them. Or be as cheap as possible.
Andrew Destin and Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that both Keller and Jones were available in trade talks
Go ahead and trade away the meat of your rotation.
Nolan Arenado Reportedly Uses No-Trade Clause To Block Deal With Astros
Ok you plumpsack, have fun eating fried ravioli for another year.
Wasn’t Houston one of the handful of teams he wasn’t gonna block?
I don't think I've ever eaten fried raviolis.. but I am intrigued!
RIP Rickey Henderson :(
What am I missing that he died yesterday and nobody but tmz is reporting on it?
Wow, Henderson out at 65, I definitely didn't expect this one. An absolute legend.
A Rickey video popped up on my YouTube recommendations about a week ago and I watched it.
It was good, though there's probably something better out there.
Rickey was incredible to watch.
RIP.
I know steals are an afterthought these days but 66 at 39 is the craziest non Barry stat ever
Favorite Rickey quotes:
- Rickey got a big ranch. Rickey got a big bull. Rickey got horses. Rickey got chickens and everything. And Rickey got a 20-gallon hat.
I only remembered the punchline to this one, had to look up the context:
- In 1996, Henderson’s first season with San Diego, he boarded the team bus and was looking for a seat. Steve Finley said, “You have tenure, sit wherever you want.” Henderson looked at Finley and said, “Ten years? Ricky’s been playing at least 16, 17 years.”
Somebody quoted John 3:16 to Rickey Henderson and he said Rickey don't want to hear about John hittin' .316, Rickey's hitting .330.
Rickey Henderson signed a long term contract right before salaries got a lot bigger in the early 90s.
At one point Mike Gaellgo was making more than him for the A's and he wanted more money. So he told Oakland "if you're gonna pay me like Mike Gaellgo I'm gonna play like Mike Gaellgo"
This was also pretty cool- Rickey and Griffey sharing a glove for a throwback game.
**** the ****ing dbacks man
I assume the giants offered the most money but wouldn’t budge at all on the no opt out
On one hand I respect that, on the other I guess probably saved them from themselves not having a 37 year old pitcher making 35-40 mil
Burnes/Sasaki Cy Young next year.
