Update April 2018

OK Vlogger Thread, we are going with some new parameters to try to make this the POSITIVE vlogger thread that it is supposed to be, not the AIDS vlogger thread where a few loonies ruin it for the rest. Note that 'positive' does not equal 'only positive', it means anything negative being said CAN'T be namecalling or wild, unsubstantiated speculation regarding any and all vloggers. Personal lives and anything aside from poker is OFF THE TABLE.

A new update March 2019:
NO ****ING POLITICS!
I think Rice is waiting for a call from the Carolina Panthers since they just let go their head coach. Don't know if he would consider an offer from the Chicago Bears, probably not a good match with ownership for his advanced strategies.
No, Rice has a different plan .... more poker-friendly in the off-season:
Clearly, Rice is on Tom Brady's short-list for the newly opened Head Coach slot with the Raiders.
In today's video, Rice shows us the simple bath to retiring a multi millionaire, starting with a simple $80k nut and contributing a mere $4k/year. Plan actually seems reasonable, factoring in a few key assumptions . . . like consistent 10% market growth and not paying taxes on dividends. Solid watch.
I saw it was more than 17 minutes long along with the subject matter and noped right on out.

Grok summary of Rice's financial video today:
Grok analysis:
so the homeless man who has spent the last 5 years on pocket bread and rice, leaves piles of hair in hotel bathrooms and gets out of breath after walking five minutes is a financial expert?
where do I sign up for his patreon newsletter
in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king
Since Troop is 20 years older than Rice, his poker player retirement account must be into seven digits.
No, but his glucose level is.
The loss of ELD's daily milkshake dividend can have a delayed retirement effect in that now ELD has to pay $3 per half gallon of CVS milk per day (only suckers buy milk from Walgreens) and over the course of a year that would be $1095 which could have been invested in a growth stock mutual fund with compound investing of the dividends. Assuming the 10 percent interest over a timeframe of 30 years ELD will lose $2,277,920.52 by the year 2055 due to the loss of the milkshake dividend.

Doesn't he refuse to use a Roth? Just the opposite of not wanting to pay taxes.
How lame. It looks like he just went to the library, found an old copy of Money magazine, and found an article written just for lazy people with no imagination. How he gets from 80k to 730k in 15 years is using funny math. At 11% it takes about 6 1/2 years to double IF you don't pay taxes on the growth, which he seems bound and determined to do. As in, pay taxes. Assuming he finally sees the light and opens a Roth, his 80k doubles twice in 13 years for $320k. I'm not even going to consider adding $4k a year because it doesn't seem likely, given the trajectory of his poker. Also, I believe the 11% that's often quoted for the S&P return INCLUDES dividends.
Of course, he doesn't even think about high dividend etf's that pay double digits, or simple techniques like covered call selling that can boost yields 20+ percent, not to mention the new crop of derivative-centric etf's that are paying 3 to 5 percent per month. How can he remain so financially ignorant? Because he attacks learning about finance the same as he does learning poker - not at all.

Maybe he gets that $4k from Mommy and Daddy and not poker?

Maybe?? His pride couldnt handle it, but he should include Mommy and Daddy on his Patreon financials.
Car insurance
Free rent and food for months
All the seed money for his investments
Health insurance
And we all know a lot more
In summary…1-2 NL is doable for $5.12/hr if your parents are paying for most of your ****. (Hi Pman!)

My gosh I really hope his rabid Youtube followers just watch these investment options vlogs just for informational purposes and not start doing these.
I'm no financial wizard but it's plainly obvious this is not the most optimal way to invest. But that's not really surprising from someone that plays poker as nitty and suboptimal as Diesel.
Just like no one should follow his advice to poker riches and strategies, no one should follow his investment advice. A super nit promo grinder isn't all of a sudden going to be an aggressive investor while still in his 30's. Although I'm sure him living off dividends should be easy since his expenses will be low and his housing will be his parent's basement.
Rice thinks $700,000 would be enough for him to retire today. Assuming he could get 5% in dividends (which is nearly impossible without investing in stocks with extremely risky value), that would net him $35k/year . . . before taxes on these dividends. Before considering inflation . . . Seems like Rice should go back into the lab and rethink his strategy. Even assuming he could live off of this, seems like a sad existence for an Ivy League grad. He's apparently planning on the TBC lifestyle -- just survive, baby.
ELD reports and recommends Verizon dividend stock. Verizon pays a dividend about 6.5% and keeps its par value the same to avoid capital gains.
Another thing ELD forgot to mention is probably buy various Elon Musk controlled stocks since he has set himself up for billions in government space contracts and can control regulations which can be changed to increase profits including already convinced Trump to allow non-American citizen engineers for higher profits. Engineers can be educated very cheaply in India whereas the USA nobody wants to pay for an engineering degree due to more homework and math needed and instead they enter business fields or legal fields or simply become Nomads.
Stop with the investment nonsense.
The S&P500 returned 8% to 10% average annually with dividends reinvested depending on the time frame you want to measure.
Rice assumes he is going to select stocks that outperform the S&P500 by at least 50% over the next 30 years in price. He is assuming a 15% annual increase in price.
But wait, there is more. These super high performing in price stocks are going to continually pay dividends and increase the dividend by 15% on top of their tremendous price growth.
This is similar to finding a class of students where every student does better than the class average. Why doesn't he just assume he will find stocks that will increase in price 20% a year and pay an annual dividend of 5% that will increase by 30%?
Verizon does have a close to 7% dividend yield right now. It has also decreased in price by 33% over the last 5 years. Extrapolate those results over the next 30 years and see if you can retire.
IQ: you are going to disappoint a lot of the loyal ELD fans if you keep this up

It's amazing the things people focus on just to have an outlet for their hate. How about the fact that a guy who makes $5/hour has a plan in place to retire a millionaire? Instead of trashing him, why not apply the rubric to your own circumstances and aim for your own success?
