Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
I think you could just by repealing the civil right act and other laws connected to it yes.
I think you decided to block private actors to do that by simple law, not because of the constitution which doesn't imply at any point that private people can't discriminate, and a simple majority of Congress could completely remove all those protections, while nothing of the sort could happen on the public side, requiring a constitutional amendment.
And keep in mind that a lot of private discrimination is
I don't understand your point. You don't think the Civil Rights Act and it's progeny are based on constitutional rights?
I guess we could repeal the act and enact new laws or a constitutional amendment but I was talking about what actually exists now and private actors supposed right to freely discriminate.
Three different people on separate occasions in November. All lifelong "vote red until I'm dead" voters. I don't think any of them actually believe it since when I asked "Oh, yeah? And what makes you think that?" they mumbled a bunch of incoherent bullshit and either changed the subject or deflected when I pressed back.
Got it. I assumed that they actually believed what they told you. This makes more sense.

But it’s there ain’t it ?
So you should accept it …..and respect the law .
And if you don’t you should be dealt with violence from the state ….
Hegseth in the senate basically said that he would like all torture to be legal and for the USA to drop out of any treaty that in any way limits it's abilities to do absolutely whatever it wants to , to win war (or achieve other goals).
That's a spirit i like a lot, included the fact that he went publicly on the record about this, no shame at all.
There goes individual right freedom fighters of yours
Hi fascist .
Paul Krugman Issues Dire Warning On How ‘A Lot’ Of Trump Voters Will Be ‘Brutally Scammed’
“A lot of people” who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election “are going to get brutally scammed” when the president-elect returns to the White House next week and enacts his “really radical” and “terrible” economic policy ideas, economist Paul Krugman predicted on Tuesday.
Trump’s plan “to raise tariffs but cut taxes on high income” will batter working-class voters, Krugman told The New Republic’s Greg Sargent on “The Daily Blast” podcast. And the effect of Trump’s vow to deport millions of undocumented immigrants will have an even worse effect on the economy, he added.
The returning president “appears to have an extremely regressive economic program in mind, one that really will effectively redistribute income away from working-class voters to the top,” and there appears to be a lack of Wall Street “heavyweights” who could “steer him away” from his most destructive instincts, Krugman said.
Sargent noted how a “fairly large” swathe of Trump’s base is actually made up of small business owners. “Aren’t those people going to get brutally scammed by tariffs here?” he asked Krugman.
Krugman, who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 2008 and left his longtime opinion columnist gig at The New York Times just last month, agreed.
“A lot of people are going to get brutally scammed,” he said, noting that some local business owners are possibly “the most fervent MAGA types out there.”
“Small business people are the people that he’s all through his life hired as contractors and then not paid, right?” he added. “Scamming people like that is what his whole life has been around.”
I know the Republican response will be to attack the messenger, but, he's not wrong. The data is pretty clear. Every election cycle since I've been alive, I've watched this unfold after Republican administrations ran their scams and crashed the economy. Every time I've watched right-wing media spin it as someone else's fault, and then listen to Republican voters parrot those talking points.
There's a kind of sick twisted beauty to this level of ignorance, that even when you're directly effected, and the reality is hitting you right in the face, you still have the ability to warp it into your own confirmation biased worldview.
Too much of an elitist egghead, Freak.
Need to ask real men of the people, like Trump or Elon.
I forgot to say something for Luciom positive stance about torture .
U love to say how people that are enemies of the western values should be put down .
It’s great you believe torture is a representation of western value …. Instead of « rule of law » I guess communist regime ,theocracies , Putin and other dictatorships should be considered westerners as well since they love torture …
We finally have a reason to put you down from your own words ….
The problem with torture (which hopefully I would never experience it ) is that you might end up tell the truth and yet your torturer wouldn’t believe you and they continue ...
What then ?
Indeed he is .

People also tell you what you want to hear, even if it isn't true, just to get the torture to stop.

So true... we just need "common sense". 😉
I genuinely hope I'm completely wrong about what I personally see coming, because we're headed for very dark times. Every book I've ever read on the rise of fascism plays out exactly as what we're seeing right now.
Solidify the enemy within = liberals. Right wing media has Republican voters convinced that this country is Israel / Palestine, when in reality conservatives and liberals are more like Canada / Australia. Convince enough people that your neighbors are the enemy, and you can do great (evil) things at everyone's expense.
Solidify central military power = bringing in blind loyalist w/ similar bad ideals. Hegseth is the canary in the coalmine there. He is in no way qualified to lead the military, he's shown himself to be a wholly immoral man his whole life... until he found Jesus of course. Now he's all good. His only real qualification is loyalty.
Attack the media and gaslight the people nonstop. J6 never happened. You are the only source of truth.
This is the only time in my adult life I've feared for this country and what's about to happen. I wasn't a fan of either Bush's or Reagan, but I never even once thought of them as fascist. I literally thought, "this is going to suck, but in 4 years we get another chance to correct a wrong." I never once had the thought that we're going to turn a corner we can't come back from. Even in Trump's first term, I knew he was bad, but I bet on his incompetence and narcissism preventing him from accomplishing his goals. But 4 years to plan and bringing in loyalist to replace the thin guardrails that kept him in check his first term are now gone. We all have to bet on incompetence once again.
People also tell you what you want to hear, even if it isn't true, just to get the torture to stop.
Yes of course but then isn’t a solution is it , it’s just a failed admission of the first mission to know the real « truth » and not the truth of what totalitarian regime wants to hear .
Just that should disqualify Luciom to be identified as a libertarian , defender of western values and all that crap about individual liberty and freedom .
Wanting no government at all in private life like he always praise to and yet agreeing with torture makes nonsense at all .
Is there something more interventionist from the state then torture ?
He agrees with fascist , dictatorship and totalitarian methods instead …

This is all very well stated. The ******s are in charge, and they think they’re smart. Buckle up.

His own mother, who of course knows him better than just about anyone alive, knows he’s a piece of ****, but he’s good enough for Trump and his droolers. The ******s are now in charge.
The incoming Fascist in chief just stopped the genocide in Gaza.
Damn fascists. You can't even trust them to keep a good genocide going anymore.

There’s obviously no evidence to suggest that Trump had anything to do with what’s happening between Israel/Palestine. That’s why Trump LOVES the uneducated; he can convince them of anything since they’re devoid of critical thinking skills.
But let’s pretend for a second Trump did have something to do with it. The argument being put forth here is that being a fascist is ok as long as they do one good thing.
MrBrianJames is ok with a fascist in charge as long as it’s his facist.
Ladies and gentleman, the ******s are now in charge. America is so ****ed.
lol the delusion of Dems is amazing.

You should take another look at it.
Trump was the first one to announce a deal was made.
Are you saying your Hero, Sleepy **** head joe was responsible for this deal?
He can't even decide what flavor ice cream he wants when he wakes up from his nap-nap.

I guess we could repeal the act and enact new laws or a constitutional amendment but I was talking about what actually exists now and private actors supposed right to freely discriminate.
I think the civil rights act, and the Americans with disability acts, exist because that was the will of Congress and have no bearing in the constitution.
They could both be repealed tomorrow and the rule of law would be absolutely respected.
I was talking about the fact that violating the constitution is a lot (like at least an order of magnitude) worse than violating normal laws.
Remember where we started this: my claim that proponents of STATE DISCRIMINATION (affirmative action, quotas and so on) are doing something that is a lot worse, than people who discriminate in the private sector.
IE they are worse for society, a bigger threat, objectively more dangerous for the rule of law.
Affirmative action in the public sphere, DEI programs targeting quotas of women or minorities or LGBT in agencies, are A LOT WORSE than redlining ever was ok?
Being against universalism isn't fascism.
Fascism is denying rights to your own people.
Foreigners in other countries have no rights to begin with, even according to the american federal constitution.
Is the american federal constitution that doesn't recognize any right to people outside of the USA, fascist?

Man the data isn't here anymore but will be later.
Care to wait? Can we call it in 24 months, income for the bottom half of earners and inflation? Those are numbers that will be published, would you agree to check them to determine if this prediction was right or not?
Krugman prediction rate of success isn't that great. But it doesn't matter, it's a testable prediction
bc Israel was fully supported by the USA in this genocide. they could not have done any of this without the full endorsement and active involvement of the ruling Democrat regime.
but on the other hand, I agree that all credit should go to the steadfast Resistance.
The incoming Fascist in chief just stopped the genocide in Gaza.
Damn fascists. You can't even trust them to keep a good genocide going anymore.
Ty... you're illustrating a perfect point about brainwashing and alternate realities. Biden's team had been working on this deal for months. Steve Witkoff went to Israel to talk about this deal, and has publically said that Biden's team has been on the lead for this deal, but in true Trump fashion, he wants to swoop in to take full credit.
Let's graciously say anyone on his team had even a small part in resolving this. Any reasonable, intelligent, sane, rational, kind, fair-minded person would at least give some credit to Biden's team that had clearly been working on the deal for months...
... but no, in MAGA alternate reality land, Trump did it all.
Biden's team had been working on this deal for months
its essentially the same deal that Hamas agreed to in May that was rugpulled by the genocidal Dems and Bibi. its been widely reported by Western and Israeli media that pressure from Trump is what got the job done.
Biden and his team should get no credit and really should be tried and imprisoned for their crimes. never thought I would see a president worse than Bush but here we are.
