Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
btw I still remember being a 13 year old well-mannered boy who held a door open for a woman and got shouted at furiously "Don't YOU hold a door open for ME!" in a busy high street - corpus is right, these things can be hard to navigate.
But that was the 70s and things were very ****ed up indeed.
Look, I very clearly said I am struggling right now in my real life with a lot of this garbage. Itβs finally clear to me that the last thing I need on top of it all is to be wasting my time being berated and accused of various thought crimes by a bunch of ******* men on the internet for my attempts at being thoughtful and fair with them. I canβt even express my distaste for thi
It always ends like this. It's inevitable.
I know, it sucks. The people that care the most ultimately get run off.
It really wouldn't hurt my feelings all that much if the entire politics subforum just went away. Just seeing the abject horribleness out there doesn't do much for my sanity. I know, I can just walk away. Probably will eventually.
I'm also not really optimistic that platforms that allow opposition to the new putin-in-chief will be allowed to operate in the not too distant future.
Here is a list of things I care about. I've abbreviated the list as a concession to the reader.
1. The influence of our technology on human civilization.
2. . . . . .

987,458. What my neighbor's cat had for dinner.

No one's saying this is about you at all, but about the idea of someone sitting in a bar with friends, interrupting their conversations and arguments and silencing them or even kicking them out of the bar.
This isn't a good analogy. A lot of people behave on the internet in a way that they would never dare to behave in a face-to-face interaction.
That's not true - when they discuss politics people often call each other stupid, fascists, commies and other names and then make up. It's often said that two subjects that shouldn't be discussed in pubs are religion and politics.
But the point about anonymity emboldening people is true, and rows probably happen more often online.
I don't want to be part of that whole toxic cis gender mansplaining patriarchal oppressor malarky, sorry. Maybe you like being a caveman but I don't.
And Jasus how old are you, 172? I had to look up that reference, it's from the 30s, when everything was b&w instead of the colour we have today.
I'll do it

lol, all you do there is insult people
you are the problem you speak of
Unfortunately that's at least half the regs.
nobody's perfect
i'm neither, i'm a centrist and you repeatedly insult me without any cause
you're just there to vent because you're bitter and everyone is catching your strays
so it's absurd for you to then call it a cesspool that should be excised, it's that way because you turned it into your playground for bullying and just being a douche to everyone
suggested rules
almost no bans for expression of political views. luciom and victor on their worst day would not qualify for bans
jackhi going on a swastika posting spree is the sort of stuff which would qualify for a ban
doxxing is a perma with no exceptions
an arguments thread is created. when a thread gets derailed by personal conflict, the arguers are asked to move their conversation to the argument thread. failure to move is a warning, failure to heed warning is a 1 day ban
post reports are not to be used other than for flagging spam. no one cares

these rules would result in happier mods and, overall, happier forum participants. the quality of debate might suffer a little, but i wouldn't worry about that as no one here has anything of any worth to say
yeah it's wild that people are like "omg why are victor and luciom allowed to post" and meanwhile jackhi went largely ignored
On social media there is a major bot issue as everyone knows. The platforms are not going to do anything about the bots as they say they drive engagement and more importantly inflate ad revenue. Old school sites like this still have a great niche as you're talking to a real person 95% of the time. Would be a shame to close the place down for a non monetary reason.

Calling yourself a centrist doesn't make you a centrist
Having centrist views makes you a centrist
Hope that helps!
My number one rule would be.
Don't take things so seriously. This is the internet, not real life.
And Mods, get a life and stop trying to police every little bit of banter between grown adults. So, someone's feelings might get hurt. Who cares?
I get abused everyday on here and I don't complain about it, I just laugh it off.
proud to be obtuse itt
Jackhi was permaed. So like, the opposite of ignored.
And you can't point to a single post of mine to back up your personal attack.
lol i was defending you buddy - in fact saying you were fine and any complaints about you were stupid
and jackhi was allowed to post quite a bit, he got 434 undeleted posts before getting the perma - that's quite a bit of rope he was given

How does an internet forum effect your sanity? If it does you are doing this wrong.
