Moderation Questions for Whiners
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.
Thanks.
Also, everything would run more smoothly if people would simply acknowledge when they have gone over the line. All you have to do is what nate did a few months ago. He said something over the line. He accepted his short ban without complaint. And when he came back, he acknowledged that his comment had been over the line. That's it. Done and done. Move on. Be an adult.
*shrug* if men were angels, laws would be unecessary
CN can speak for herself, but I suspect that her natural inclination to explain her decisions made the job harder for her. And that's because some people don't want explanations. They just want to accuse the mods of playing favorites, being on a power trip, etc.
My personal view is that people should be warned in thread to knock it off except in the most extreme situations. If they don't knock it off, they should get a ban. Generally speaking, I think that bans should be a last resort. But
Do you guys have a standard procedure concerning bans? I was banned for a month for an "antisemitic" post even though I am pro Israel. I've seen other far worse posts where the person only got a week ban. Also, I've noticed there is no ability to appeal a ban or discuss the reasoning for it. I've always attempted to play by the rules and am willing to learn when I am wrong. The 30 day ban was way excessive in my opinion. Also, I had quickly deleted the post I was banned for but it was put back up by Crossnerds. I thought the post was a bit harsh but didn't consider it to be "antisemitic". I did take into consideration who the moderator was and decided not to chance it and I still got banned.

There is no standard procedure that I'm aware of.
It's reassuring that you got over it so well.
Meloni does seem like a strong leader. I don't see Harris like that. She will be nervous and cackly. I would have loved to see Tulsi run. I'm not saying a women can't be President. I don't think Harris has the strong leadership qualities to overcome her diminutiveness.
You really don't understand that females can exist in the singular, do you?
It's "woman", not "women" and "Crossnerd", not "Crossnerds".

We’ve already discussed this over PM, but to clarify, I saw your post and decided what to do about it before you deleted it. Temp bans work on an escalating scale, so your history does contribute to the length of the ban. I undeleted the post so that there was transparency as to the reason for the ban. And the “antisemitism” you refer to is you said that any Jew who doesn’t support Israel is a “traitor”.
Hope this helps illuminate you.
I suppose it's probably literally antisemitic but hardly what people would traditionally consider antisemitism.
If hes saying they are a traitor to the faith then I think that would be clearly antisemitic, but if hes saying traitor to the country then I am more conflicted
I assume he'd say it's both.
It's sort of the equivalent to "if you're black and not a Democrat then you aren't black".
It's silly but I don't think the sort of post that deserves a month long ban.
I'll be happy to mod I just assume there will be a group of people unhappy that I'm modding.
My only rule would be is if someone asks you a direct question based on a post you made, you have to answer.
We'd lose all of our right wing posters except maybe luciom
You have, claimed that 90% of my posts are about trans people. 90%. I'd be surprised if it's 1%. LOL at you being a mod.

I can remember about 9 of your posts across all of 2p2 and a full 7 of them are you bringing up trans people, including *totally owning me* today by talking about trans people out of nowhere in two different threads
so you are right, thats 78%, keep up the great work
We live in a nanny nation. Liberals feel like it's their job to protect the fragile amongst us. This "protected" class is realizing that this is not in their best interest and in reality is just keeping them where they are. This is why people voted for Trump. He knows the best thing for these people is to get on their feet and make things happen on their own. Political threads need far less moderation. Who exactly is being protected here and why? Why would a personal attack on a poster be an issue? In the sports forums and the poker forums etc. people are personally attacking each other all the time and Mods don't feel the need to step in. This is the way it should be. Who cares and what's the harm? If somebodies life is being effected by anonymous people on a forum then they shouldn't be on that forum. They probably shouldn't be on any forum. If the personal attacks aren't racist or threatening who cares? People are becoming way too fragile in society because they have been coddled all their lives. This is not good and needs to change. Think about how a felon and twice impeached person can win the Presidency. It's because people are tired of the left and what they are doing to this country.

People voted for Trump because they are incredibly fragile and helpless and they pass around stories about dangerous immigrants on facebook and nextdoor and scare themselves to the point where they **** their pants if they accidentally get off the freeway into a non-white neighborhood.

Try not ******** your pants accidentally driving into downtown Camden.
I live in AZ. I know how bad it is here regarding dangerous immigrants.
People voted for Trump because of the occupation of campuses by Gaza protestors, Wokeness, Illegal immigration etc. This country has turned into a third world ghetto under the Democrats. It's nice to have a person with common sense in the White House. It's nice to have a President who is available to the people instead of being hidden by his handlers.
Pay my expenses (maybe some for losing work depending on what's going on) and I'll go eat at the restaurant of your choosing in Camden and post of pic of me not shitting my pants. If you want to save some money you could buy my lunch in Watts or something closer.

Some people are fine traveling the world while others are terrified in their own back yard.
I've probably spent more time in "dangerous" areas of "dangerous" countries surrounded by "dangerous" immigrants than you've spent eating at the local Mexican joint

This is probably not a sufficient explanation.

Why would I do that?
My family got lost in downtown Camden about 25 years ago. It was a bad situation. I walked into a convenience store to get directions back to the freeway. The guy behind the counter told me I shouldn't here. Everybody in the store stopped and stared at me. Later at my Aunts home we were visiting, nobody believed we were lost in Camden and made it out alive. I later found out Camden was the murder capital of the US. It's gotten a lot better since then but no way I'm going back.
You shouldn't be commenting on things you don't know about. You're little tough guy act could get somebody hurt one day.
