I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Sure, we have been hearing about these mythical non-MAGA conservatives since 2016.

They have collectively made themselves politically irrelevant since Trump become won the GOP primaries, had a brief wake up right after the 2021 6th January attacks and are at present day more politically irrelevant than ever, since they have pretty much no representation Trump's circle or in GOP leadership.

It is also a moot point, because the political topic of debate isn't what hypothetical old-school conservat

there re a ton of people who would prefer another candidate for GOP, but whatever the gop ends up with including trump they are going to prefer that to anyone selected by democrats .

normal partisan politics is like that: the worst possible human being on my side is still morally preferable to the best possible human being that takes your side, definitionally.

that's like in tribal politics.

if the candidate is Vance, 95-99% of trump voters vote for him as well. but they do the same if it is Cruz.

AND THE SAME IS TRUE ON YOUR ****ING SIDE

pennies serve no purpose,

We did a family project where we made about a 12inch diameter penny bowl with some adhesive to hold the pennies and a candle holder made all of pennies. The candle holder turned out exceptionally well and had a surprisingly awesome glow when lit and lasted for over a year before cracking and definitely could have been done better. The penny bowl broke the next day.

I was watching the UK game with Trumper friend. On a commercial she switched to Fox and then repeated the spiel to me:

"Elon and Trump are finding so much money wasted and straightening things up, blah, blah, blah."

"And you believe anything they say?" I asked pointedly.

And she broke out the universal line of defense of the party: "Well, you can't believe either side."

She, intent on meeting the Lord for eternal life soon, but otherwise all there mentally, plays along with the Armageddon plot sort of subconsciously, almost subliminally ... as the inevitable end game of a superstitious belief, of an epistemological lack, refusing the obvious gambit that her's is just one of the religions, that the powers at work are human nature, not providence.

My understanding is that main argument against getting rid of the penny is that there would be a "rounding tax" on cash transactions, which would be borne disporportionately by the poor.

I'm not convinced that such a tax would be particularly significant, but in any case, that's the argument.

good try.

It makes a difference though if pennies are being produced at 8x the rate of a nickel as well as being worth 1/5 of it.

Who the hell knows but I'm not sure how it would cause any meaningful increase, especially outside the short term, the need to produce more nickels to meet demand when demand is generally on the downward trend barring a supply issue like covid.

None of those articles claiming that have specified why exactly that would happen. And we could also up the copper percentage or just make the stupid things out of zinc - since we are going to have plenty of that stuff shortly (maybe) - also accelerating the demand for cashless transactions.

Legal showdown looms as Trump tests limits of presidential power

"We want to weed out the corruption," Trump said. "And it seems hard to believe that a judge could say we don't want you to do that."

"Maybe we have to look at the judges," he continued. "I think it's a very serious violation."

The AP says it was blocked from the Oval Office over continuing to use “Gulf of Mexico”

The AP said in a statement it was informed Tuesday that if the news agency did not “align its editorial standards with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, AP would be barred from accessing an event in the Oval Office.”

First step to throttling a free press, it looks like to me.

This is the kind of story we were all waiting to hear about a trump fan to figure out if all trump fans are goofy/stupid/whatever. Thank you so much for sharing such an interesting story.

I remember a story I read from trumps last term that something like 95% (forgot the exact number but I’m fairly confident it wasn’t under 90%) of the press corps for the President are registered Dems. So let’s not act like trump is only allowing access to friendly journalists.

Considering how the media hid Biden’s mental decline for 4 years, how they never questioned what fauci said about Covid & how they all went along with hunters laptop being fake - instead of actually reporting dissenting views on these things I think it is fair to say you sound silly at best for suggesting a republican is now angling to get preferentially treatment from the press.

If we're going to eliminate coins, we should just eliminate all coins. Round to the nearest dollar.

oops

hmm.....

Actually its cheaper to replace the 1$ bill with a coin . O do think you could eliminate nickels and dimes. Id be curious how often the average person uses cash. I know I rarely do other than my dogs grooming and haircuts

According to the Federal Reserve, it costs $0.032 per $1 note.

Trump today - Interest Rates should be lowered, something which would go hand in hand with upcoming Tariffs!!! Lets Rock and Roll, America!!!

Yes, higher prices from tariffs and lower interest rates will lower inflation. The man is a genius I tell you, a genius!

under/over before Trump or one of his trained monkeys accuse the Federal Reserve on not following their blathering wishes because of 'deep state' blah blah?
