The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

President Trump will be holding a "major press conference on Tariffs" at 1pm Eastern Time which might include comments about Canada.

Broken YouTube Link

oh boy. I feel like this one wont be against Canada tho. maybe some euros? whos on his shitlist this week. surely he will wait till the agreed upon month to go after us even more.. surely....

Its apparently about "RECIPROCAL TARIFFS" I dont think we even announced our counter tariffs yet LOL. This should be a good one

Yeah I have a feeling Europe's in his sights now

Ya this is probably not about Canada at all is my guess he seems to be going after every country at once that has dutys against them. We don't really have any tarrifs against them because of the free trade agreement so not sure what excuse he has to go after us yet

anyone understand this graph? seems like country's without free trade agreements are taking advantage of them if big number is bad. big number might also be good I cant tell horribly explained graph 😃

Well the tax holiday was a flop Oh well it only cost 1.6 billion added to the deficit

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/other/as...

I said this when it first went in. The primary goal was to save CONSUMERS a bit of money in the holiday season. It did that. 1.6 billion saved. The goal wasn't to spur retail spending per se, that is secondary at best.

But it is a good little data point that simply cutting taxes doesn't magically spur the economy. Conservatives take note.

we finally now know what trump means by "RECIPROCAL TARIFFS"

If he just wanted to save CDN's money over the holidays he could have cut the carbon tax

Why would he cut the rebate whose total fiscal effect is that it puts more money in the pockets of 8/10 Canadians than they both direct and indirect?

The carbon tax is dead in every possible future scenario. Your side doesn't have to pretend any more. We don't have to pretend that cutting something that is revenue neutral and rebates 90% is anywhere close to the same as cutting something that generates revenue and rebates 0%.

by uke_master

False. The liberals have had a couple decent polls and are doing better, but make no mistake they are still behind in the averages. I’m absolutely still betting on poilievre majority.

How much are you looking to bet?

Excuse me that is a lie 8/10 CDNs is not accurate . You may claim 8/10 that participate in the federal carbon tax plan but if you include BC and Ontario than it’s not 8/10

As well it’s not dead with the liberals they will jack up the carbon tax on the commercial side which will just be passed down to the consumer

Stop lying

Noted.

Cutting a billion $ for a couple of months after 5ish years of record high cost of living doesn't spurt the economy. Who would have guessrd that.

Lmao, years into it and you are still ignorant of the basics. Ontario is on the federal backstop ffs. And lol obviously the analysis of the federal carbon tax only applies in provinces that use the federal carbon tax, just lol at calling it a “lie”.

Man these last few rounds of owning you on basic info about the carbon tax are fun in the way that beating the neighbourhood kid at pickup street hockey is fun after your team just lost the Stanley cup.

Trump has mental problems like biden it seem .
At least biden wasn’t crazy thinking Canada was the enemy.

Not even a month yet in power , 4 years …

Lozen BC is not in that carbon tax plan ffs….like Quebec they have their own system jfc…..

Not necessarily.
Sometimes they eat the cost to not lose market shares…

Correct that is what I was saying . Uke said 8/10 Canadians get more back than they pay which is a lie . The claim is that 8/10 individuals in the federal carbon plan get more back than they pay which.

I know in BC it’s way lower and Quebec I do believe there are no rebates as you have a different system

by rafiki

That is not what I posted.

Yes it is..

But anyone with an opportunity to inflict maximum economic pain to the USA in the coming months, has a patriotic duty to do so. I'll make exceptions for people who need to pivot from income sources where they rely almost exclusively on the USA. But even there, people are starting to look to other markets to replace them.

Phewf! I sure am glad u are willing to make exceptions on who's a traitor or not.

by rafiki

There's no choice now imho. Canada and Europe are clearly stronger allies today (along with some other markets). Meanwhile the USA is choosing Russia. So be it.

Elon does seem really worried about Ontario cancelling a 100m contract, starlink will never recover.

When did Trump say Canada is an enemy? I thought they were allies . I don't think he would invite them to become a state if they were an enemy, that's one of the best compliments one country can say to another one.

Another energy project shelved. Sad, but I'm sure not buying American booze and not using starlink will give us plenty of leverage in negotiations.

Lmao that’s quite the deceptive title, but if you get to the end of the article it explains it. The company cancelled the plans to proceed. The government just said “ok”.

I couldn’t quite tell from the article but it sounds like this project has just been sitting doing nothing since 2016 since it relied on the northern gateway that was cancelled. One can debate that decade old decision that northern gateway was problematic and faced stiff opposition while transmountain was more reasonable, but this is mostly just rage farming that old decision.

Who needs enemy when you have friends like trump…..
Not respecting Canada independence is a great way of showing friendships ….
U must think Putin is a great friend too for ukrayne .

Fine so why you mix up trudeau carbon tax with them ?
Both has nothing to do with each other .

Pierre Poilievre's big rebrand tomorrow....do you guys think he will come hard against Trump? Will people buy it? His campaign manager is a noted MAGA supporter

The CPC has launched their new campaign which features the wife of Pierre.

lol my dude just glosses over that he was so confused on the basics he didn’t realize Ontario was in the federal plan, just causally switches in Quebec and desperately hopes no one notices.

And just lol at acting like it was a “lie” to talk about the federal plan without stating the COMPLETELY OBVIOUS context that it applies only in provinces on the federal plan. Not explaining basic details everyone knows isn’t “lying”.
