Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:
The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.
When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.
It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.
But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.
Thanks.
it seems the Ukraine will give up the Eastern Oblasts to Russia, give up their resources to the USA to pay off the debt of funding the war, and wont get into NATO. cue the Kissinger quote.
it does seem Trump is not yet forcing Ukraine to sacrifice their 18 year olds. admittedly, when I flippantly said "to the last Ukrainian", I was wrong.
It's amazing how peaceful this world is becoming under the Trump leadership.
wait, am I reading this right? The "peace talks" won't include Ukraine? Really?
theres a lot of backlash in Ukraine against the brutal slave catchers who are kidnapping people off the street. I suspect many of the projected canon fodder will be happy they dont need to die for Western Imperialism.
I there anything you ever disagreed with Russia Today about in the last 10 years?
Victor I'm way behind on your posts in here.
Do you think that for the war Putin has won, he should be allowed to keep the land Russia has taken?
no I called for a ceasefire back in 2022 when they offered the 2014 borders minus Crimea.
man, how did I miss this one
Mate, we are waging a proxie war...

Limiting the size of Ukraine's military is hopefully the main sticking point here.
I all-in'ed my tiny Polymarket bankroll on the Ukraine war lasting past April 20th.
Seems like some of the best value on the website.
They literally invaded Russia 6 months ago. And still hold territory in Russia.
That said, I'm not saying it justifies limiting Ukrainian military. The reason for limiting their military is that lol international law got burned alive and buried in the rubble of Gaza. It's the law of the jungle from now on.
Also, given that Canada and Europe have deindustrialized and demilitarized, and there is zero threat of violence from them; they have pretty much no leverage in the world anymore, beyond punitive economic leverage.
And most of the third world knows because of the suicidal empathy these nations have they would never even use said leverage, except against other developed nations like the US. And even if they did, the world is a big place so there is plenty of other markets.
I suggest to people on "both sides" and those in the middle to wait until things happen in reality though, which is in general the right way to deal with international chicanery and it's even more relevant when one of the actors is Trump which is very famous for claiming publicly stuff he doesn't actually intend to do at all , especially in negotiations

?? what trump talking point is this from especially the deindustrialized part. I bet if i found a chart military spending has been about the same for the last 40+ years definitely the same since the end of the cold war. economic leverage is everything in modern society.
Also you do understand after the cold war there was no reason to keep large military's. No one forced the united states to keep its military hegemony it choose too for its own benefit and will continue to choose to keep it. Its a choice you make stop blaming others who didn't make that choice
They won't get anywhere if they don't. As ever, Trump has no idea what he's doing.

Or Trump is satisfying his base with cheap words while something very different is on his mind
such a waste
