Talk About Movies: Part 4
Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
I watched ATPM also... and I doing so, I was taking aback by how bad the reporting actually was and how much hearsay they relied on to make their perconceived conclusions.
What was shocking is that a piece of scotch tape brought down a presidency.
I read G Gordon's Liddy's book, its scary how these type of people rise to the levels of power and they are frigging crazy. And brag about it.

yesterday, Scotch tape... today, active intelligence asset usage.
nothings changed.
how many copies of naked lunch do you need?
I'm liking this James Bond tribute at the Oscars
People have been making old jokes about The Rolling Stones for 30 years (maybe longer), and Mick just looked as spry as can be when he came out to present.
wow, basically an Anora sweep at the Oscars.
$6m movie made completely independently. I liked it, did not love it. But I appreciate Sean Baker's methodology.
Speaking of Sean Baker, he won FOUR Oscars tonight: Best Picture (as producer), director, screenplay, and editor.
That's amazing.
Mickey Madison winning an Oscar for her first starring role is also pretty amazing.

yeah, looked like he was having fun up there
and I feel kinda bad for Demi Moore...when they were announcing Best Actress, you could see how much it meant to her.
Watching Adrien Brody's speech and thinking he'd make a good Anthony Weiner. Is there a biopic in the works? There has to be, right?
Also loved the Bond tribute.
Felt same about Anora, thought good but not great. I just don’t think it was a great yr for films and Emilia Perez shot herself in the foot w the Twitter drama or whatever it was. I do think Mikey M’s performance deserved a win
Conan was great, felt like a nice vibe this year with all the craziness in the world. I sure hope (good) movies in theaters have a resurgence when people finally start valuing art and experience over $$
Bond theme concerts are awesome... the last one I saw live was at South Point and couple years ago. The lady did all the greats.
Anora was the best film of 2024, by far.
Long live the Independent Film.
Was a terrible speech by Brody droning on about nonsense. Baker got up there with a message, much better.
Conan was decent, I would expect he'll be back next year. Makes fun of himself more than anybody else which probably sits nicely with the Academy.
I missed the start of the Bond tribute, was it an anniversary or something? I was half expecting a newly minted Bond lead to get announced.
Reminded me of 2022 ceremony (2021 films) where CODA just kind of took it in an overall weak year.
I think they gave Barbara Broccoli the Governors' Award? She wasn't there, tho.

Mick probably still bitter he didn’t get nominated for Old Habits Die Hard & Memo From Turner, but still a huge power flex move on his part stealing the show.
So Anora is about a whore and that won Best Picture? There better be a heart of gold in there!
I enjoyed the watching Oscar Tv show because of the intense human moments. Zoe Saldaña emotional heartfelt acceptance of the award as the first Dominican , The costume design winner speech, Kieran Culkin using profanity and then requesting a 4th baby from his wife, Ariana Grande's funny shaped gown, Conan's joke about Kendrick's Lamar's halftime message, Conan saying to not back down to bullies, Adrien Brody kissing the presenter and kept extending his drawn out emotional speech by saying I'm almost done over and over and praising his current female partner , the former wife of Harvey Weinstien and more I cant recall.
Otherwise on the downside nothing special about the pictures this year, most of Conan's other bits and jokes were lame to me, Conan seemed very nervous for the first hour anyway, I like james bond and songs but why a tribute now? (paid by Jeff Bezos?), Adam Sandler bit seemed out of place. They needed a long tribute to Gene Hackman.
I enjoyed the movie "Flow" from Latvia more than any of the best pic nominees.
Just opinions.
And with Emma Stone winning last year and Madison this year, apparently the Oscars like giving awards to actresses who get naked and simulate a lot of sex now.
I happened to turn it on just before that began. Was kinda disappointed in two ways.
1) Good that they included several clips of the classic introduction ("Bond...James Bond"). But, couldn't throw in even one example of the other classic line? ("Vodka martini. Shaken, not stirred.")
2) Likely to be the last excuse to have Paul McCartney perform at the Oscars, once you've decided to play Live and Let Die. Jump on that.
I had no Idea that E. Stone already has two Oscars... that is more interesting to me.
