New fast food discussion/review thread
OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.
In
Only been to the one in a food court on the strip in lv but thought it was ****.
Saw on the bottom of the screen during the lunchtime news that Del Taco suddenly closed all their CO locations.
I've never been. Did I miss anything?
Limited experience with them and my most recent was 38 years ago. I remember ordering the bean burrito every time due to everything else seeming to be a worse choice.

Hahaha, I immediately flashed back to my own limited DT exposure, Sept. 1980 Dallas. Right around 45 years. It was right next to a motel our traveling sales crew was staying in for 2-3 weeks; we'd go there most nights. The price was sure right, great value.
Del Taco and Taco Bell are pretty similar except Del Taco give crinkle-cut fries with their combos. Also the Del Taco hot sauce is actually decently hot.
I can't imagine someone liking TB but hating Del Taco.
Oops, forgot the quote.

You looked in app offers?
I don't app, don't have a smart phone.
But I joined their club thing, on their website.
Del Taco > Taco Bell but they are (mostly) more expensive. Avoid their combos - a total ripoff. Only order a la carte from them.
DT chicken burritos and soft tacos are fantastic.
DT regular crunchy Del Tacos are good and full. much better than the pathetic TB tacos for the same price. plus DT tacos include tomatoes!
DT crinkle cut fries are the best fries in the FF game
the worst thing on DT menus are their burgers. tiny hockey puck patties and huge bun.
the one downside to DT vs. TB is no Baja Blast if u are eating in.

No bb, mxn pizza or crunch wrap. Better to go to a taco truck if you want decent tacos. Ff Mexican to me exists only for the weird non traditional ****.
I used to love TB. But then 15 years ago or so I lived out west for a few years and tried DT. Haven't been to TB since except for the occasional breakfast.

Golddog,
No, you didn't. Once upon a time (1980's-1990's) Del Taco was called Naugles (at least in So Cal where I grew up) and they were terrific. Burritos, Hamburgers, Fries were all top notch for a fast food place and they were also 24/7, a big plus for a young gambler with a healthy appetite. After the sale/merger/or whatever it was, they went downhill quickly. Cheaper ingredients, went to crinkle cut frozen fries, etc. Went a few times in the 2000's and 2010's but it was no better.

I ordered my free CFA sandwich (Thanks LAFC!) on Monday. Today, the local CFA gave me another free sandwich for mobile ordering on a Monday!
took a break from my son of baconator addiction to cash in on two free CFA sammies today (one was a where you been? here's a freebie, one was points lol)
paid for some waffle fries tho, best dunked in CFA sauce
I'm going to CFA for dinner tonight!
Stopped by mcdonalds for the first time in a while, since I overdid the mcribs.
They have a $7 daily double meal thing, the one with fries, small soda, and a 4 piece nugs.
Did my usual modification, +pickle mustard ketchup, delish! Also, they really hooked up the fries.
Got the nuggies in the fridge for a late night snack.
Don't sleep on the daily double!
Meanwhile, I paid $5.29 pre tax for Taco Bell LTO mini steak and queso crunchraps with green chile queso dipping. They tasted decent - the pico inside them actually stood out with the cheese sauce for a nice flavor combo. The queso dipping was good enough, if forgettable. But for almost $1/bite after tax, this will be my last order of them.

In addition, I decided to try to plus up the cheesey bean and rice burrito off the cravings menu. Last time I had that I had added sour cream (+0.40), and liked the outcome. This time I did the same, and also added pico (+.40) and jalapenos (+.60). This was overdoing it. The thing was terribly soupy (I guess from the moisture in the pico?). Also, I realized that when I'm adding several extras, I'm also losing out on some of the original ingredients. They aren't over-stuffing the burrito (no Chipotle-style double tortilla needed here), so they are putting in less rice and beans to make room for the new veggies. I'm going back to the original carb bomb going forward (at 60% the price as well).
Oh, they also had a LTO Birthday Cake Flavored Churro, branded by Milk Bar, which I saw on the splash screen of the app but then nowhere else other than buried on the sweets menu. No mention of them at all in the store itself. I did grab 2 for $3.49. They were fine, decently sweet but made me appreciate better churros I've had. They had a small amount of cream in the center but I couldn't really taste it. I'd rather have had cinnibon minis if getting something sweet at the Bell. FWIW my son was more impressed with the churros than I was.

Got this today and it was only $5 for me.
Does this mean extra pickle, mustard and ketchup? Those things come on the McDouble already, right?

This means you had a McDouble and small fries for a meal? That is a very modest meal by American standards, good for you.
I have decided to fast for a day or two... it's not started out well as I am starving.

I always wondered what happened to Naugles! I used to stop at one in downtown San Diego on my way home from work at 2 AM. It makes sense though because my go to burrito at Del Taco is real similar to the one I used to get at Naugles. It's a Combo Burrito: ground beef, beans, cheese and red sauce. I call it a gringo burrito.
Naugles was awesome...
Our newest Bell, built a couple years ago, is a minimalist location. No seating inside, just a vestibule to order and pick up. A single bathroom, accessible from the outside. It's mainly just a building for cooking and food storage. It's actually just right for this town, made for drive thru traffic.
They're also replacing the main location in town. It appears to be a "full service" Bell. Old building was torn down, new one in the final stages of construction.
They've done this to a few Chik A Filas in town. Multi-lane drive-thru, multiple exterior order windows, some outdoor seating (in Phoenix in June? Hard pass.). Office still has the "full service" location nearby, but it's always less then sparkling inside. I blame the children's play area.
Carbrain has rotted many a beautiful country.
Who's watching Taco Bell's Live Mas? $1 caliente cantina chicken quesadilla drop at the end of the show.
edit: drop is live!!!
