In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

Gosar. And yet, I regularly drive by two churches that always have rainbow flags flying out front. Both of them have large signs saying "All Are Welcome". One has a woman lead pastor (I don't know about the other one). And they both are part of main-stream protestant denominations.

And that's notable because the most common explanation in the west for why people are against gay rights is that it is incompatible with christian morals.

by Gorgonian k

Oh all are welcome, but all will not be treated the same. They are specifically directed not to treat all people the same. That's the whole point.

You have an incredibly distorted view of religion. If others showed such a prejudiced opinion on other topics you would rant and rave about how awful they were.

FTR: I do not deny that there are many that fit your view. Maybe even the dominate situation these days. But to brand all with your assessment is intellectually lazy.

I certainly have a sort of Western Chauvinism, but it's built on the ethos of the Baccanali, Aedonism, the Carmina Burana, Free Masonry, the Renaissance orgies, and the centuries-long battle to defy the church.

Our best successes predated the church imposing it's power in europe (The greeks, the romans)

We emerged as the superior culture by winning that battle only to have leftists substitute the church and force us to play the game again, and i am very pissed off at that.

Wtf?

I mean, this is a good song and all, but still wtf.

I don't have an opinion on religion. I have experience with it. About 49 years of it. I'm not making anything up. There is no way my opinion could be "prejudiced" since it is after experiencing it for so long.

It's literally in the bible, my guy. Not sure what else to tell you here.

The texts are from 13th century poems written by people who spent the nights in taverns and hated the church. Approx. the "first students of the first universities", like in my city of Bologna.

From a similar time you can also check the Decameron.

The song was the least questionable part of your list.

Also, I've barely listened to Gavin Newsom ever and I live in California. His reputation is much more the result of him being targeted I guess because Republicans expected him to run or feared that he would than anything he has ever done or said. As far as I've ever noticed, "typical Democrat" is exactly what he is.

A perfect analogy of your view of the world is when CNN called the *George Floyd protests* "mostly peaceful protests".

Fwiw, Gavin is now in the process of rebranding himself as a moderate Democrat for his '28 run. However, the dude is the most corrupt, sleezy, FAR left totalitarian commie there is. Trump calls him Gavin Newscum for a reason.

So Luciom finally outs himself as a devil worshipper. Lucifer...makes sense.

Satanists have a more consistent and widely acceptable moral compass than most American evangelicals at this point

In some sense yes, i do share a decent amount of ethos with actual satanists.

Is it your position that all religions, and all individuals that are religious, have the exact same beliefs? Perhaps you should do some more research.
Let's go back to where I started this conversattion. (I know it wasn't you that made this comment, but it seems you are on board with it.

- Unlike personal beliefs , religion forces you to believe and act in a mandatory way that often goes against equality , secularism and rule of law while promoting many discriminations.

My only objection is that this is an overly broad brush to paint with. And how can one's personal beliefs not drive you to act in certain ways. I'm not arguing that one way is good and the other bad - that's for everyone to determine by themselves. Montreal has seemed to determine that everyone that is religious is a sheep that follows marching orders from... someone.

No. Did I say or imply that anywhere?

by Didace k

Why? What do you suggest I research, and why?

Cool, yes. Let's. And let's try to not assume I agree with statements I didn't make. How about that?

by Didace k

Really? You don't think the entirety of Christianity being overtly sexist would qualify as "often" at bare minimum?

by Didace k

Montreal has seemed to determine that everyone that is religious is a sheep that follows marching orders from... someone.

Well...he seems to have determined that the bible is sexist (at minimum) and a lot of religions follow the bible. The bible literally COMMANDS they do certain things and don't do others. So...uh, yeah. If they are followers of that, then they either are doing what they are commanded or they aren't followers. I'm not sure what you aren't getting, honestly.

Maybe the difference is you are giving people an out for having their own free will to not do what the bible tells them to? Fine, but christianity is still demanding it, whether they ultimately do or not. If Mr. Green told a dozen people to go out and kill a kid to be initiated into a gang, I'm not excusing Mr. Green from doing that just because some of the dozen people didn't kill a kid. I blame the people that did and Mr. Green for commanding it. I don't think that's controversial at all.

I didn't threaten to ban you. I noted that you used ban worthy rhetoric but distinctly didn't ban you for it

Explain how that is ban worthy. Would you ban me if I said Dildo Donald? And I didn't even use a derogatory word. Was George Floyd a good person? A personal friend? You're just making **** up at this point and acting like a little dickhead dictator with a green screenname. It's definitely a sign I'm winning and making you sperg out when you delete my posts and edit a harmless nickname. It's just a pathetic form of cope that makes you abuse your mod "power".

Look, if you can give me a coherent reason why the nickname I used is banworthy then I'll leave it alone. So explain.

I think puerile nicknames like Dildo Donald are mostly stupid also, not because I think he has earned respect but rather because this isn't a game. And needless to say, if Donald Trump were unlawfully killed like George Floyd, my enthusiasm for giving him dumb nicknames wouldn't increase.

by Rococo k

if Donald Trump were unlawfully killed like George Floyd

But he wasn't. He died from a fentanyl overdose. Dem's da faks. Trump would pardon Chauvin if it wasn't a state charge (he'd do it after mid terms of course).

Weird how he died right after a cop stood on his neck for 9 minutes on video and an independent autopsy said he died of "asphyxia due to sustained forceful pressure" then, huh?

Family attorneys: Independent autopsy finds George Floyd
died from asphyxia due to sustained forceful pressure

His asphyxia was a direct result of the drugs he was on. The "I can't breath" was said when he was in the cop car. He asked to be set down on the concrete. Doesn't really matter. I don't really care. Floyd was a terrible person. People make jokes about dead people all the time. May God have mercy on him.

The point is the mods on here exercise their power strictly on political bias. The **** libs on here are constantly using nasty and vulgar rhetoric and you think it's funny cuz they're on "your side". So **** off.

Given "da faks," does it surprise you to learn that he was convicted at trial in state court of second degree murder, third degree murder, and second degree manslaughter and that the conviction was upheld on appeal? Does it surprise you that he pled guilty to federal charges?

I'm sure you are going to say that the deck was stacked against him, but it's worth remembering that police officers in these sorts of cases often do better at trial than casual observers expect.

by BGnight k

His asphyxia was a direct result of the drugs he was on.

That's weird that the autopsy results and the trial and multiple appeals said otherwise.

That's usually the case unless the jury feels threatened that immense riots would start in their city if they don't convict.

Btw, I still don't understand how an impartial jury could be empanelled in that case, where did they find 12 people with absolutely no a priori opinion on the events that led to Floyd death?

Posting here is a game and I think the site should autocorrect "Trump" to "Dildo Donald" from now on.

Lol. Stormtrooper who murders a black person obviously gets your support.

It was more a critic of the jury system for ultra famous cases than anything else
