Donald J. Trump (For everyone else)
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Yeah, we'll just have a mass die-off. But, hey, we won't have to wear a mask!
Jfc now we are denying Florida reopened basically everything in full in September 2020 through RDS executive order while various areas in California kept limitations in place till late 2022.
How much can you guys lie?
It's obviously true that things were more restrictive in places like California and New York than they were in Florida. But those restrictions often are described as some sort of hard lockdown, which is not accurate. The main restrictions were around in person school and large events like concerts, sporting events, etc. (FWIW, I wanted schools to reopen as soon as possible. Remote schooling was mostly ineffective.)
For the most part, in NYC, I did whatever I chose to do during the entire pandemic. If I wanted to go the office, I went to the office. If I wanted to go shopping, I went shopping. If I wanted to ride the subway, I rode the subway. And If I had wanted to walk down the street with 20 friends at 3 am singing at the top of my lungs, I could have done that too.

I agree that it wasn't a hard lockdown like we had in Italy and other places.
Still it was more restrictive without absolutely any positive result to show for it.
And schools were closed for MUCH longer in some areas.
My point is people who were in favor of those extra restrictions were proven wrong objectively. At a minimum you need to show exceptionally better results for those restrictions.
THEN we discuss if the tradeoff is worth it (for me the answer is always no for any exchange ration of freedom to other people health, but others disagree).
But those extra restrictions were useless so it should be illegal yo ever again implement them anywhere
If he is successful in cutting regulation, lowering taxes and cutting the size of gov't he will go down as one of the best presidents we have ever had. However, it will take decades for this to be a consensus because of the mass amounts of hatred for him today and the world hasn't yet recognized how harmful a large gov't is to an economy.
Sure, best president to the unfettered oligarchs who slurp up the plunder while the standards of living tumble. We've seen the devaluation of labor already decoupled from productivity measures and economic growth. I can't imagine what makes you think that massive deregulation and further economic consolidation is somehow the answer to America's problems. No one credible believes in tiny government = healthy economy, thriving society.
Is this 3D chess or checkers?
Trump's is tariffing the world on steel and aluminum, ensuring US companies have no imported steel available at market prices.
The US does not have enough steel or aluminum, so these are not even protective tariffs. They are just a tax on US manufacturers.
And, by hitting every country with this tariffs, you dilute the grief that might have been felt if you targeted one or two countries.
How does the US come out ahead on this?
Not only did these people vote for this type of incompetence, they are willfully denying the incompetence and think telling people that "the country needs this to grow in the long run" is doing something besides making them look even dumber.
They don't want social security checks going out. 70 million people receive them and if they are late by a couple weeks and 10 or 20 million 80 year olds can't pay rent and/or buy food and/or medicine...that's what they want.
Yeah, no doubt you're "fine with the pain". You're a monster in human flesh. Austerity practices like the ones for which you advocate would directly and quickly lead to mass poverty and misery, which I know gets you really excited, especially when you can grab a few extra crumbs from the tables of the billionaires who own you.
You all are blaming trump/elon/doge for something that hasn't even happened and likely won't happen. People getting SS checks late would be front page news on every news organization in the US and we haven't heard of one person getting a check late.

The US doesn't come out ahead. He's a dumbass.

People have already died because of the incompetence of this administration.
However, there is EVIDENCE that it saved between 800k and 1.7 million lives. That claim can certainly be made as I have provided that evidence.
Ah, good 'ol peer reviewed "science". Common sense shows us that lockdowns and the jabs themselves killed more people than the jabs and lockdowns saved. Not to mention the still unknown long term effects of MRNA's. Look I can copy paste too!:

They were intentionally hiding vaccine injuries by saying it was "long covid".
We could have done absolutely nothing with no vaccinations and it would have been a wash.

It's pigeon chess. He has no idea what he's doing.
could be even worse, he might think he does know while he doesn't, I am moving toward that for tariffs.
unlike other stuff he only said to gain votes, I think he cares about tariffs and he actually thinks threatening then gives him results.
he is moving under objectively wrong assumptions which for me is worse than moving randomly
Irrelevant, but almost certainly.

Not sure if you know this but pasting unpublished articles and nonsense from conspiracy theory websites isn't impressive
you link is about a model of life loss linked to PEPFAR being interrupted.
afaik PEPFAR didn't treat americans.
for some people it is irrelevant if they are Americans or not, for others taxpayers of a country have absolutely 0 moral duty to save lives in other countries so interrupting an expense that does save lives elsewhere isn't immoral, rather it is proper and good.
keep in mind you, and everyone who agrees with you, can donate for PEPFAR equivalent programs privately and save lives with your own money if you feel that's a good use of your money, without forcing people who disagree to spend their money for your moral preferences (which in the past you said you didn't want to force with legislation)

Well I mean we don’t really have any moral obligations. But if we did have, the types of programs that are being cut for other countries (minuscule cost, hugely life-saving) would be at the top of the list.

1. We institute tariffs
2. Our economy crashes

Imagine your response to 15000 people dying because of this administrations incompetence being to nitpick if they were American. Gfys seriously. Disgusting.

Or, you ignorant facist, you can elect representatives in congress to research the effects of it, decide of its a good use of our money, vote on it, and then go from there.
Which we did. And this incompetency administration is undoing the work that was done by representatives of the people, properly, to decide if this was right or not.
We voted on this. Correctly. This was approved by our representatives. I'm sorry you lack the understanding of how the government works, just like administration, but your ignorance, and theirs, is literally killing people.
Disgusting.

if it's so cheap to save those lives why aren't they saving themselves? they are poor but if it's so cheap...
you shouldn't limit yourself to present time, first order considerations.
a model where American taxpayers are responsible for healthcare in subsaharian africa is simply absurd for several reasons.
first of all the world has more than enough people already and the population of those countries is exploding (and already too high, as they can't feed themselevs literally) so saving lives there is almost certainly significantly negative to first world citizens.
secondarily, you never fix a person, a group, or a country by making it a parasite. you want to help them, you help them becoming self sufficient. you don't provide PEPFAR, you help them educate more of their population into physicians who then do the PEPFAR equivalent domestically.
third, every and all such programs has huge corruption and waste as everything paid by the public and not constrained by the market always is, so it's inherently bad to finance such a program no matter the purported results.
fourth, again, if it's so cheap they should do it themselves. it their own citizens don't value the lives of their co-citizens even a few hundred bucks, why the actual hell are you willing to help suck a wrecked and disastrously immoral society to begin with?
