Drive to survive dropped today

Managed to finish watching it last night. Felt like one of the worst seasons this time round and alot less drama despite it being a pretty crazy season. Would have been nice if they spoke to Newey about his switch to Aston Martin.

I love the improvements to Albert Park with all the DRS zones and taking out the chicanes - makes for a really exciting race and the closest thing we get to an oval race.

I really enjoyed it actually. Would hate if they cancelled the series.

I've watched F1 for 30+ years and can't say that i've ever watched an episode.

It seems to have brought in some new fans to the sport.

I haven’t watched it for a few years and much of it is forgettable but there’s some gold in it. For example, the episode with the Grosjean crash was incredible.

Liberty has almost single-handedly turned the sport around. Made nerdy drivers into rockstar celebrities.

Every team on the grid is now profitable whereas in the past, many were struggling to stay afloat.

Every team on the grid is now profitable whereas in the past, many were struggling to stay afloat.

They still come across as nerdy drivers. Lando, Max, George, Lewis, Oscar etc. aren't exactly rockstar studs like James Hunt was.

I haven't got the financial stats for each team but am surprised every team is now profitable. I imagine that the supposed cost cutting / budgets has helped some of the smaller teams.

2026 will be interesting with the introduction of the new teams as the pie will be split 11 ways.

10 RULE CHANGES FOR 2025 F1 SEASON
‐---------------------------------------------------------------------
A rundown of the key rule changes for the upcoming 2025 F1 season.

1.No point for fastest lap
Drivers who finish inside the top 10 and set the fastest lap will no longer be awarded an additional championship point. The decision to remove it likely stems from Daniel Ricciardo’s last-ditch effort to steal it off Lando Norris at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

2.Flexi-wing clampdown
Flexible front and rear wings have been a major talking point since the middle of last season. McLaren’s flexi-rear wing, highlighted at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, attracted the attention of the whole F1 paddock.
From round nine (Spain), stricter tests are being imposed on front wings, which could shake up the competitive order.

3.Cooling measures for drivers
The sweltering conditions experienced by drivers at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix forced the FIA to introduce a specialist cooling vest. A ‘heat hazard’ warning will be used when temperatures reach 31 degrees Celsius, giving drivers the option of wearing the new cooling vest.
In 2025, this remains optional, though, with it likely to become mandatory next year.

4.More track time for rookies
Rookies will be given more track time during official F1 practice sessions in 2025. Before this year, all 10 teams were required to run a rookie driver twice throughout the season.
This has been doubled for 2025, with teams permitted to run rookies twice per car. For Alpine, Mercedes, Sauber, and Racing Bulls, running rookie drivers with two or fewer starts fulfils half of the required quota.

5.Monaco GP shake-up
One of the biggest changes for this year is for the Monaco Grand Prix. All 20 drivers must make two pit stops during the 78-lap race around the principality.
This has been introduced to potentially spice up the show due to fears that the race in Monte Carlo is too much of a precession.

6.Harsher penalties for swearing
language. This applies to all FIA racing series.
Rally driver Adrien Fourmaux was fined for using the F-word during a TV interview.

7.Unlimited gearboxes
The FIA has removed the restrictions on the number of gearbox components teams can use. It means there are no penalties for exceeding gearbox components.
Previously, drivers would be given five-place grid penalties for going outside their “pool” of gearboxes.

8.Qualifying classification
After treacherous conditions at the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix which threatened whether qualifying could even take place, the FIA have decided that if qualifying can’t take place, the grid for the race will be determined by the drivers’ championship standings.
This new rule applies to sprint races as well.

9. TPC test tweak
Less TPC (testing of previous cars) is available to all 10 teams in 2025. Current drivers are allowed to drive just 2,000 across four days this year.
Teams can only schedule a maximum of 20 TPC runs in 2025.

10.Post-season test details
The end-of-season Abu Dhabi test has been tweaked slightly to pre-empt the new rules in 2026. Teams can run ‘mule’ cars - modified cars to replicate the 2026 regulations.
The young driver element of the test will continue as normal.

#5 mandating the minimum number of pit stops taken in a race is a bit weird. They already enforced running 2 compounds to try and spice things up.

The only way to make Monaco more interesting is to either soak the track, or change the layout making overtaking possible (not going to happen).

I wish they brought refuelling back. It injected a bit more strategy into races and made things more interesting.

Monaco need to be taken off the calendar... it is useless as a 'race'.

I would vote for a Monaco 'Time Trial' weekend for half points.

Thursday - Solo Practice
Saturday - Solo Qualifying
Sunday - 3 to 5 Lap time trial, with highest averaged speed winning First

Maybe you could limit tyre allocation of something to make it even more interesting.

mandatory pit stops is idiotic... like having to 'Drive to a Delta' type racing...

I don't like mandating, but I do think they should only have two tire compounds, such that you have to make 3 stops or more to get through the race. Some of the current circuits end up with pretty boring races with no real strategy other than, "yeah, just stay on the white compound tires for the next 35 laps". Having to pit more often leads to more strategy and interesting races. But yeah, just saying you have to have X pit stops is stupid.

I support the mandate at Monaco and I think in his day and age where F1 is heading that it is needed to keep the race there.

I also support the relaxation of the rule for replacement gearboxes as I think the sport has become so successful that they can do away with some cost saving measures.

F1 practice on my TV in 19 hours 33 minutes.

Hilarious that Cadillac is in after dropping Andretti. Who did he piss off?

I want to hear stories! I thought everyone loved Andretti.

No one - motorsport heads and team owners just didn't like the idea of a guy that has made his money through operating a race team (so of sponsorships mostly) coming in and making potentially billions of dollars when they would rather give that to manufacturers for them to re-invest that into their motorsport programs or car development in general. The Andretti type owner days of entering the sport are long gone.

Well... Let the Whining begin.
"Struglling to get the car to turn"

Who are all these people?

I give up... Who?

Fun qualifying. Great to see Williams so fast

One driver is humble and speaking truthfully... 'I am not fast enough today'
The other driver, as usual, was making excuses and placing blame externally... 'it's not me, if only I had more knowledge'

when will Lulu stop whining.

I mean, you’re clearly on one here, so w/e but it’s just as easy to interpret those words in exactly the other way.

Charles : it wasn’t me, the car wasn’t fast enough

Lewis: I’m still learning how to get the most out of this car
