President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Just so we are clear and there is no confusion, will you please state exactly what you are insinuating? How does he become president if he is not elected?

by housenuts k

He is vice president.
The president dies or steps down.

And for the constitutional interpreters that say this can't be done, is he allowed to be speaker of the house? What happens if pres/VP die?

Can he be secretary of state?

Where down the chain does the Constitution allow one who has been elected President twice to continue acting in public service?

by chillrob k

The same way Gerald Ford became president, without being elected (to the presidency or even the vice presidency).

Thanks.

For anyone who voted for Trump, supported Trump for this latest election, or currently support Trump--would you support him attempting to get a 3rd term in any way?

Awful prospect but maybe another generation or two will begin to realise what bits of paper mean.

I used to be a journalist working a Beijing desk that covered economics and politics - those numbers are exactly what i expected them to be more or less

Its patently absurd that one side is sharing nothing but personal opinions and anecdotes and the minute an opposing viewpoint shows up with supporting data it’s dismissed out of hand and called into question… again on a whim and hunch not with actual facts

You guys are absolute clowns

You seem to misunderstand me. I have no interest in what you guys were discussing.

I just pointed out posting AI-derived material and meeting criticism off the source material by expecting others to fact-check them for you is poor form. Using your journalist background to double down on that makes things worse, not better.

AI frequently just makes **** up, even the leading models. As a single source it is garbage both for political debate and journalism like.

Like I actually do believe the goal here is to devalue the dollar and refinance some debt.

Why do you think this is the primary goal?

Good question, assigning motive to behavior is a tricky enterprise, but when the head of the biggest bank (J. Dimon) starts slinging shade your way, watch out.

I don't think there's any goal here in trump's mind. He runs our country like he's in seventh grade trying to punish all the kids that make fun of him. He isn't capable of thinking any other way.

I'm guessing he's gonna start waging war on the fed. It's highly unlikely they drop rates given today's job report and the fact that inflation is still higher than they want.

The man has a talent for landing the blame on everyone else, I will give him that.

Has America been saved yet?

Considering the arbitrary methodology for the reciprocal tariff and this buffoon waxing poetic about the word reciprocal and the word groceries during LIBERATION DAY it’s beyond hilarious to assume this clown has a plan

I don’t even think he’s lying to the American people about how tariffs work, I just think he’s so fucking stupid he actually believes countries pay money to us

Supporting data is a generous term for what you provided. Still waiting for the plethora of arguments for and all the articles we seemingly don’t want to find.

Yes tariffs to protect a specific sector is fine. We knew that a decades ago.

Can you name any other good reasons for tariffs?

Also lol at the VAT section. Please don’t call anyone a clown. Look in the mirror, you’ll see one there.

by coordi k

I don't think anyone is arguing that tariffs in themselves are bad. They are incredibly effective when applied strategically.

If we are talking about purely economic impact, then I would argue that all tariffs are bad. If you want to bring politics into it, then tariffs are great for pandering to special interest groups, at the expense of everybody else.

Once upon a time, the American right was associated with free trade and the the American left was associated with (unsuccessfully) pushing protectionist ideas. Now we have the Republican party going all out on making sure that we don't trade anything with any other country, ever again. Obviously the parties have evolved over time, but the quickness of this 180 on economic policy has to be unprecedented.

The way the guy didn't even know groceries was a WORD is stunning.

with supporting data

Did you present supporting data? I must have missed that. What was the source of this supporting data?

Was wondering this too. The source as per usual for people like him is chatgpt.

Thinking for yourself is old fashioned. Just ask chatgpt to do it for you and can then copy paste it.

Donald Trump aims to sharpen economic message in North Carolina speech, warning of ‘Kamala crash’

In a North Carolina speech designed to hone in on his economic message, former President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned of a “1929-style depression” under his opponent, while pledging to roll back major Biden-era initiatives and spending.

“If Harris wins this election, the result will be a Kamala economic crash,” Trump said from the stage at Wolfe Auditorium. “A 1929-style depression. When I win the election, we will immediately begin a brand new Trump economic boom. It will be a boom.”

Oh it's a boom alright.

by rickroll k

But that doesn’t mean tariffs as an economic device should be dismissed out of hand

rick - I'm only quoting this one post, but am responding to your recent body of work in this thread.

In your third time through the re-education camp, did they happen to mention that the situation China was in 20 years ago is not the same as what situation USA#1 is in now?

You accuse others here of dishonest posting, but you are responding in-kind. No one has said something as simple as "tariffs bad". When they make a post about tariffs, they are referring to the clown-show that is the current administration and the mind-boggling way it is being handled. This should be obvious. All comments should be viewed through this lens.

he was appointed vp and its fine if he can be elected as such while a 2 term president cant be appointed .

12th amendment
https://constitution.congress.gov/consti...

"But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

Correct, but that mentions only eligibility to be president listed in the original text - age, born in the US, residency requirements.

The amendment regarding reelection of presidents mentions only that he can not be elected to more than real terms, nothing about him no longer being qualified to serve as president.

The writers of these two amendments didn't match their terminology, thereby leaving a loophole which was probably not intended. I think it's pretty clear what the correct interpretation is, but the Supreme Court almost certainly would decide if this issue came up.

The cockwomble claims China is panicking, now they are doing exactly what they said they would if he went ahead.

It just gets stupider and stupider.

With about 6 hours left in trading today and already down a lot let's see if we get a market-wide circuit breaker halt at -7% or -7.5% whatever it is. It would only be a 15 minute halt in trading I think, but it would be a much needed symbolic act that would make the headline on every news agency except Fox News.

Well, he's on his way to the golf course now, so hopefully he won't **** up anything.....today.

he and his lackeys are pointing to today's job report as evidence that the tariffs are working. Mind boggling.

Down for last day

Down for last week

Down for last month

Down year to date

And I didn't think was possible, but closing in on down for a rolling year

Being down for an entire 12+ months is going to start being the breaking point and a bridge too far for many people to take this mess.

I just gotta ask. Are we great again?
