I mean you kinda gotta give them credit for a really well executed troll

I propose a Statue of Libertarianism, which is just nothing because no one wants to pay for anything.

the market will give us the best statue

Apparently, JD Vance killed the Pope.

And Hegseth is toast.

Lib out bro

It is time - past time - to rescue philosophical "Liberalism" from its right-wing captors.

Liberalism is the ideal of the individual, each individual - you, me, et c. - being the appropriate level of concern. For example, John Rawls worked out a "theory of justice" focused, despite its shortcomings, on the perspective of the individual at the bottom of the equation in any potential scenario. For another, Jurgen Habermas developed a framework of language critically, and fundamentally, dependent on the individual's participation and understanding of words.

Neoliberalism - the express use of government to protect and advance capital, particularly global capital - is not Liberalism. It is a right-wing bastardization of Liberalism. It is Bill Clinton deregulating banks, which did not benefit or consider the individuals living under his regime but did otherwise advance global capitalism.

Conservativism - the use of government either to preserve the status quo or to regress to previous eras of normalcy - is not Liberalism, either, even though they sometimes like to pretend they are - eg., "I'm a classical liberal". Conservatives disjoint individuals from their surrounding milieu - the world changes around them, but they do not intend for people correspondingly to change alongside.

Libertarianism is another pretender to Liberalism, waving the banner of the individual but self-blinding to the communitarian aspect of the embeddedness of the individual in a society of others. Libertarians seek to diminish the use of government, despite the advancements of individual well-being provided by the government, often based on their own misguided sense of pride and, more likely than they will probably admit, their belief in amorality and embrace of deception, theft, and domination.

Oddly enough, Marxism is not a deviation from Liberalism, but a development of it. Marx was concerned with the seizure of the individual's work-product and the attendant deprivation of the individual's "surplus value" or in today's parlance "rent", and he sought a use of government to protect the individual from this type of theft by their fellow (and also to avoid eschatological collapse, but everyone is entitled to a bit of kookery every now and then).

Lenin, of course, was not a Liberal, to the extent that he believed the interests of the individual should be subsumed by those of the state (see also Hegel).

The kind of Liberalism you promote failed under the pressures of late stage Capitalism and enabled a fascist regime but go off lib king.

I am firmly in my tankie era

When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called "the People's Stick".

When they have food and water and medical care and housing and walkable cities and no pollution and no advertising and ownership over the products of their labor they can decry my oppression.

It is not the failure of Liberalism but the success of Neoliberalism that has engendered today's populism and mistrust of government institutions. Neoliberalism has captured the Liberal ideology to the extent that the sins of the former are laid upon the latter.

I assume you mean now because 100 years ago was not "late stage" capitalism, and the largest single factor leading to nazi empowerment was the economic isolation (in effect) from global trade that the WW1 "reparations" imposed upon Germany.

When the tanks are rolling down their streets, they cannot decry anything.

Wave to Bernie and AOC! Damn Limousine Liberals.

F-off all of you!

Katy perry went to space and people are mad.

A guy living in America on some deferred deportation status got deported "accidentally?" People reference due process a lot.

Tariff wars! Stock market goes down which is bad but didn't go down as much as doomers wanted.

Someone obviously hasn't looked at MSNBC's ratings.

case in point, lol

but in seriousness, when the people's house of representatives ranges from complicity to support in the face of rapidly increasing authoritarian control by the chief executive, liberalism is not "doing fine"

when layoffs due to increasing AI and robotics technologies are met with social support cuts, liberalism is not doing fine

when the reigning political party's intellectual architects openly and explicitly call for the end of democracy, liberalism is not doing fine!
