Home ownership
Maybe I missed a thread similar to this, but that's ok. I have been in my home for 10 years now, and there are some thi
Glass installers were here.

Apparently the supplier gave them a wrong top corner bracket. I think it's a silver finish instead of the brass. They said it will be a five-minute switch once they get the right one. Not sure I would've noticed had they not pointed it out.
Only took about 1h 10 min to get it put in place. Door is double-hinged, so I have the option (but will probably forget) to swing it in after shower to keep the water more inside.
A couple days to let the silicone set, and Sebastian needs to come finish a little around the niche, then I'm back in to my own bathroom.
We'll have to solve the trim and doors, but it will be usable soon.
that looks awesome...
did you ever consider putting the door on the end?
Looking good!
Thanks guys. We did talk about door placement. One of the guys pointed out that, were the door on the end, I'd have to step into a not-warmed-up shower to turn on the control to warm it up, and have it spray cold water on me.
Oh yeah, that's a good point. Not having a spouse to send in there, we put it on the side.
Then, when the glass guy came out, we discussed the generalities (door here, wanted the outside towel bar ,bright brass finish), and he suggested the dual-swing hinges. Like a lot of things, we start out with an idea, then modify and iterate as options come clearer and reality raises its ugly head.
I'd have to say so far, the things we've come across, we were flexible, kicked around ideas, and came up with nice solutions.
this turned into an interesting idea once i got it on paper. last night i had also altered my initial design to include the WC idea, which i think is also pretty solid. i do appreciate the feedback. these are a lot of ideas that i never even considered and i think it's moving towards a better design than i started with.
lord was Garick spot on with his rec to create a craplette
both options are interestingly different independent of plumbing relocation, but i like the johnny version for these particular reasons
having sinks and window on opposite sides might allow the mirror to help reflect daylight into someones face like those fancy lightbulb vanities from back in the day of b&w Garbo movies
and the shower door swing arrangement in the soundtrack of Garick's musical is a bit awkward.
might be easier to get an animal in-n-out if the hinge style was reversed, but then you run the risk of clipping the wall if lines swings too wide
in either option for the plop compartment you might consider a double-swing glass door like goldie just got, but with a frost.
think saloon style but closer to the floor and ceiling
related topic what are your intentions about how to treat the verticality of space
a lot of good planning so far, but also way past time to elevate your thoughts into those 11' ceilings

Maybe it's FPS, and I will defer to Schu as he seems to be a shower expert, but a hand shower head waiting until the water gets warm fixes this issue. If you don't want the extra shower head, then it's cheaper/easier to put the door on the side.
and i'm jealous of what you got going on there goldie

I like the way you think!

This is true, and at some point I'll probably replace the provided shower head. That's what I had previously.
Thanks, Red!
Maybe living better instead of long? Hopefully just long enough to not be suffering at the end, whenever that is. I'm generally pretty type A, and have been working on addressing that.
I concur with your glass guys recommendation for door placement. I didn't take into account heating time... UNLESS YOU HAVE A TANKLESS WATER HEATER
:p
Nope, old natural gas style. When that goes, tankless may be in the future.
Now that you mention it, that should probably be on the list. Had the old one replaced maybe ~20 years ago.

thats a good point. i never thought about the exterior light reflection off the mirror before helps light the room.

yeah, i would expect in some configs the double swing door will probably be used in the shower. i'm just showing the outswing because at the very least i believe it needs to swing out for code. also, these are still rough alternatives. once the wife confirms a config, i'll be more thorough with details.

i'm confused what you mean. are you suggesting a dual swinging door for the WC?

if the toilet stays in its existing location and we build a WC around it, i was thinking just having the walls go 8' and stop, leaving it open to above. this would potentially allow me to stay with 1 fan and the return would stay in its location and should function normally.
realistically, i'm not going to worry too much about it until the wife signs off on a WC anyway. if she does ok it, i think there are only a few options anyway.
shower will be all glass where ever it isn't wall and it will be the standard height of a glass shower and open to above. i know she does not want a steam shower because my parents have one and she's not a fan.
can we get a photo of the shower being used please?
I need some stuff for only fans...
golddog, if you haven't already, would you mind sharing your shower wall tile make/model? I am a fan.
Thanks, Randall, don't mind at all. If anyone wants:
Both from HD, in stock (at least around here).
Grout. Bone was the color I used. From Floor & Decor. They also carry a matching silicone.
did you consider Porcelain over ceramic?
I was considering this for a bathroom reno. Different look, but your pics looks different from the HD site.
Didn't consider the material, other than asking the guys if there was anything I should go for, or avoid. Just went for color/finish I thought I'd like. As mentioned earlier, it came out a bit more gray than I expected, but it's good.
Randall, suggest getting some samples of things you might like, and putting them in the room. Check them out several times per day, over a few days, to see how they look under different lights.
Then, if you're like me, have the wall tile propped against the wall/tub/whatever, and knock it over with your foot when brushing your teeth. Sigh.
I'm pretty loyal to fireclay, but they generally don't have big tile.

Have you considered a sliding door?
Also, if you are making the shower big enough for company, consider a second head with its own controls on the other side of the shower.. Not having to take turns under the hot water is nice.

You might be missing the point of having company in the shower 😉
But seriously, in a big shower it actually makes sense.

For the more practical consumers a better option is to have a handheld shower head with its own controls next to the bench.

yep
was suggesting a dual swing frosted glass across the entire opening
to let light into your outer house water closet through the passageway between pooping saloon doors
and as long as the wall compartments are only 8' tall without ceiling no uncontrollable bodily function in the general area will be private anyway
also question utility of a desk in the bathroom, is that more like a vanity or a place to pay aarp bills?
