A lot of brinksmanship on both sides. A lot of people think there will still be a nuclear deal, and all the threats coming from both sides are brinksmanship for leverage.
I think there's a lot of truth to that but Netanyahu may be able to exploit it. It's highly likely he wants to start a war with Iran as long as he can fully embroil the usa. Nothong like WMDs to make that hpapen - and they dont even have to be real.

I mean insane for me is someone not perceiving reality as it is, and/or in general behaving against their self interest.
To me, Iran elites look like very vanilla violent autocratic elites doing their own self interest as many other elites in dictatorships do, i don't see any particular weirdness or madness tbh.
Ofc they are evil and with very different values than we have but that's not madness for me.
In your thought experiment, is there some limit to how much pain and death Hamas can morally be justified in “accidentally” causing for the cause?
Like, if you knew they would ultimately win and drive the Jews completely out but 500,000 civilians would have to be “accidentally” sacrificed, is that morally justified by your calculations?
Unlike pro-Israel posters who will gleefully follow the slippery slope to full ethnic cleansing, there would be some sort of limit for me. I have confidence that the Gazans are far more united than Israeli strategists assume, however, so I doubt we'll get there, but I will let you know if we reach the threshold. Given the systematic actions being taken by Israel, it would probably have to be in the 4-digits before they start giving Netanyahu some semblance of moral high ground again.
Why would I be happy that an insane theocracy is developing nuclear capabilities? Being happy to have allies in a war is not the same as being happy about war.
You should be happy that Iran has repeatedly said it wants a nuclear free Middle East, and unhappy that Israel, the US and the rest of the west ignore it.
You should be able to understand why Iran might want to gain nuclear capability at some point. HINT countries with nukes don’t get bombed.

Im really impressed with the accuracy in media organization (AIM), they are probably the only conservative organization to fight back against these anti-semitic individuals while the left has like 10 different organizations that get pumped with charitable donations from medium-high net worth individuals.
