Oh I guarantee you they can name Angel Reese. You won't want to hear what they say about her, but they can name her.

Conservatives think the goal of DEI is diversity in who "succeeds" but it's actually diversity in who gets the opportunity to succeed. It strives to ensure that people aren't prevented from being given an opportunity to succeed based on their race or gender or age. That's why df examples like "durr why is the NBA all black then?" just expose their limited understanding. I saw a picture of a white woman who had been appointed to whatever position and a couple conservatives went "CLEAR DEI HIRE!" Peak delusion is equating DEI with "artificial racial quotas." That's conservative talking point bs that you've swallowed whole.

I've worked in a couple real workplaces in my life. I think it's better to deal with unconscious bias than conscious bias.

Dealing with unconscious bias is a DEI thing though.

Although personally I feel like it’s better phrased as like β€œensure the best candidate has a chance to get the job, regardless of demographics”.

Fair enough. That's worded better and makes more sense than what I said.
So if there was a hiring period and a workplace needed 10 people, and it just so happened that the 10 best candidates were all white males, how do you think that would go over?

I think it can and does happen, such as in construction jobs or other jobs that require physicality. It’s just rare that women will not be in the top 10 candidates for office jobs because they have more college degrees. Also other racial groups like asians have higher rates of technical degrees.

You’re thinking of affirmative action which is not the same thing as DEI.

That's a good explanation.

I think the Democrats have done a poor job of communicating and demonstrating this. Joe Biden said he would only hire a women of color to be his Vice President. I think a lot of Conservatives took that as a classic DEI hire. If it was truly a DEI hire then Biden would have said he is giving all people no matter gender or race the opportunity to be his running mate. How would you qualify Bidens choice of Harris? Do you agree with his intent to only appoint a women of color?

Yes! I like Sophie Cunningham.

I think many of those white boxing fans are still stuck in the Jack Johnson era! I love these boxing films on YouTube. Jack Johnson's story is INSANE.

Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sonny Liston and others, all of these guys had remarkable stories. I feel like each one is a tragic play detailing a little part of America's social life of those years.

I think it undercuts the person being selected by announcing beforehand you want to choose a particular racial group. But she was definitely qualified.

I think Biden's "I will only pick a WOC as Vice President" statements were dumb, but also just a part of "playing politics" more than DEI. I mean, Vice Presidents throughout history have been picked to shore up a certain demographic. Biden himself was picked by Obama to mollify the opposition to him from reactionary Democrat whites, and ALSO because the Israeli lobby viewed Obama with a ton of suspicion from the beginning (wonder why?) whereas Biden has been a HUGE supporter of Israel for his entire political career.

Also was no identity-based coincidence that Al Gore picked Joe Lieberman.

Was Biden a DEI hire too? No. That's just politics, baby.

Shockingly, the claim that Biden stated he wanted a "black vp" isn't even true

“If I’m elected president, my — my cabinet, my administration will look like the country,” Biden said in response to a question about how a Biden administration would handle women’s issues. “And I commit that I will, in fact, appoint a — I’ll pick a woman to be vice president. There are a number of women who are qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president.”

“I am not committed to naming any but the people I’ve named, and among them there are four Black women,” Biden said.

Shocking I say

So in response Trump names a mid level national guardsman alcoholic fox news anchor who doesn't understand what classified material is to run the military and Republicans, instead of having a shred of principle, point to something that isn't even true as some whataboutism justification for ineptness

All the while ignoring the fact that Kamala Harris very well may have been the most qualified candidate for the job based on a 40 year career in politics

If they felt she was the right person for the job I have no problem with it. The way they went about it seemed like she was forced in.

Based on years of sending poor people to jail I'd say she was a little overqualified for the job.

Biden never committed to a black woman as VP yes, but he did commit to nominate a black woman in SCOTUS before choosing who, and he did.
