Israel / Iran thread
Seems like this conflict is not going to end anytime soon and is worthy of its own thread.
cant you have a single thought of your own ?
trump do one thing and its opposite and it always 100% amazing with no wrong doing ...
I didn't think he was gonna attack. He fooled all of us including the Iranians. This was a brilliant move executed flawlessly. Now that he did attack I have to give him his dues. I'm not so sure what is complicated about this.
Trump did what I was expecting any POTUS to do if/when Iran was "days away...." The alternative would have been putting Israel boots on Iranian soil to take out the sites, which would have undoubtedly escalated this even further. But I'm not really seeing much to change the world: Iran didn't have a nuclear weapon and now they don't have a nuclear weapon.
Iran was the worlds number one state sponsor of terrorism. Putting them out of business creates a safe atmosphere for those who want to act civilized to conduct business. Getting rid of the nukes means there won't be a proliferation of nukes in the future by other Middle East countries. This is enormous for Israel. Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis are basically dead. Israel can once again advertise that it is a safe haven for Jews to live and visit.
Itβs funny to listen to you dudes herpaderping about the Iranian people overthrowing khameni like thereβs any chance it happensEven knowing khameni is absolutely despised by Iranians, how do you actually envision that happening when:1. Iranian protests against the regime have gone on for like 20 years to no end or purpose2. The only thing Iranians hate more than khameni is bein
Just sit back and watch my friend. Now that the Iatoilet no longer has Nukes at least in his life time he has nothing. There are already plans in place for a new government. The Iranians who hate the West are also about to go away.
This guy is the best source of up to date news.
The UK wants to get involved but what are they gonna do bring a baton and some whistles?
you'd know better than me
from here it looks like there's a clear lane open for anyone who wants to run iran in more or less the same way -nuclear program -sanctions
The "opposition" to Khomeini and the IRGC is mostly urban elites and expats. So they get a lot of play in the West. There is still much support for the IRGC in rural areas and the military industrial complex. The IRGC is basically the MAGA of Iran.
If you just read WaPo or NYT you might assume there is a lot less public and institutional support for Trumpism than there really is.
Also, if the IRGC was somehow deposed; than well funded, armed and supported Islamists would immediately being guerrilla operations. Iran could turn into Yemen or Syria.
And unlike much of the Arab world, Iran isn't an ethnostate; there are a lot of different ethnic and cultural groups. So in chaos these groups could being splintering off and making their own alliances with fellow ethnic groups in other countries, turning Iran into a failed state.

Iran has the ability to make and deliver dirty nukes over Tel Aviv right now. Hardly a safe haven.
Democrat mayor btw

You promoted the anti war/anti attack trump for many months while blaming democrats for it .
Now trump did it -> brilliant move….
I’m not sure what is complicated about this …
Hint: you’re a joke !

Sounds like George w. Bush , irak has no WMD no more .
They never had it , big win….
It’s all good , oil will probably spike tomorrow and then …. Biden faults smh .
A completely expected 180 from the “anti-war” crowd now that they’ve received their marching orders.
It must always be a scary few hours waiting for fox news to tell them what to think.
Doubt that.

The UK does not want to get involved at present, except in diplomacy alongside France and Germany. That's why the B-2s had to touch at the US colony of Guam and launch from there, rather than British-controlled Diego Garcia, which would have been half the distance from target.
I tend not to agree with you about various stuff, but, in your basic perception that US 'liberals' are actually far-right (hence their lockstep doctrinaire authoritarianism, their tendency to imperialistic military aggression, their failure to put Roe v Wade into statute and their failure to do anything meaningful about 2A or universal healthcare), you are of course correct.
Karen needs to impose a 7pm curfew and a ticket for not social distancing ouselves from Iranians to keep people safe. That should also garner some votes.

Do you think Iran has no intention of developing a nuke? Is there a reason for them to have a nuclear facility 80 meters underground if they arenβt intending to develop a nuke?
There have been successful operations in the past that slowed their progress.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet
Imo this situation is not 100% analogous to Bush/Iraq even if Iran doesnβt currently have a working nuke.
Iran has been ‘weeks away’ from a nuke for at least 25 years
Yo gabbard gabbard even said they aren’t close to which Trump chose to just say ‘nope I trust my gut, not her’ twice. To which, likely to keep her job, she decided to make up some bullshit about how iran is weeks away from a nuke
But ya, sure, keep on keepin on
‘We have no evidence at all to suggest that there will be attacks but we’re going to go ahead and profile Iranians in LA anyway to keep you safe’Dope
How familiar are you with the Iranian community in Los Angeles? It is mostly Shah regime exiles and Half of them are Jews.
They are generally conservatives and vote republican, although there may be less enthusiasm for that at the moment. Trump actually carried Beverly Hills in 2024 mainly due to Iranian Americans voting for him.
Iranians here never participate in any of the far left rioting that goes on in Los Angeles. They aren’t going to be targeted at all.
The IRGC sympathizers/spies/left wing activists mostly live in the east coast and are connected to the Ivy League colleges as professors, TAs, etc.
And they will continue to protest against the US and Israel freely with no local pushback at all. Although the federal govt may be looking for any excuse to deport an any non us citizen activist that openly praises the IRGC.
Iranian activists hold marches through NYC praising the IRGC and calling for destruction of Israel and the US all the time, with no local pushback.
Taking out their nuclear facilities and regime change are two very different things. We have the ability to do the former without ever doing the latter.
Iβm not even saying Iβm opposed to it, but I think it needs to be pointed out that everyone arguing for regime change here is being extremely vague and hand-waving away the details of what that would look like.
Unless you have a plan for how we can support such a change either as the US or internationally, or who exactly is going to rise up and do it, then it just seems like wishful thinking to me.
I hope they do become a Westernized, secular democracy and an ally of the US, but I doubt they will do. Even if they do, I doubt our country can support them because of how low the appetite is to play the world police domestically. Even less so from Europe as well.
βWe have no evidence at all to suggest that there will be attacks but weβre going to go ahead and profile Iranians in LA anyway to keep you safeβDope
This is about protecting the Jewish and Muslim communities, not about racial profiling Iranians. Mayor Bass has been horrible but this is a very bad faith way of interpreting what sheβs saying.
he's familiar

the furthest the us and israel can go is to create conditions where regime change is possible. that involves killing lots of the current senior leadership and loosening their stranglehold. then its up to the iranians

USA has gone for regime change all throughout the region and I cant think of any that became "secular Westernized". most of the countries that the US supports there arent even democratic. Jordan Egypt Syria Saudi Qatar UAE are all allies with Israel and the West and none are democratic. its almost like democracy isnt the goal and anyone who speaks about is either delusional or lying.
