Israel / Iran thread
Seems like this conflict is not going to end anytime soon and is worthy of its own thread.
Trump just said Israel and Iran don't know what the fukk they're doing and then stomped off like a 5yo who didn't get his way with his parents. Trump learning the hard way that he's the one who doesn't know wtf he's doing.
I saw this. It's like he just woke up and realized like everything else he's promised to fix that its complicated.
I guess he could just drop some more bombs.
It's back on. Apparently Trump called Netanyahu and yelled at him about how he's been bragging and doesn't want to look like a fool. We'll see how many minutes that lasts.
Articles that discuss war often allude to Trump, Putin, Khameini, Netanyahu, Zelenskyy, Kim Jong Un, [fill in the blank] feeling pressure to do something to avoid "humiliation."
I hope that the world isn't actually run my people who are so mentally weak that they feel like they have to kill people to avoid personal humiliation.
Thatβs a huge part of Trumps foreign policy. Like he met with Kim Jong Un just to pretend like he solved something. But any president could have done that if you donβt get anything that helps the US or the region.

Israel now accusing Iran of violating ceasefire, Iran denies ot, Israel vow to respond.
Why tf can't both not just pull back?
It is just the Middle East. This is literally what always happens after a war "ends." There is always some back and forth. Of course Trump is such a wild card we dont know how he will respond to this very normal occurrence.
liberal politicians remain the most mealy mouthed and two faced creatures on the planet.
Did you see the part where Trump/Israel told the Iranian negotiator to meet them on Sunday, then murdered his entire family and many innocent people in the apartment building? If you were a screenwriter, how would you go about writing this in a way that makes the West look like the good guy? (please answer this, I'm curious)You seem to have been following this stuff for years fr
Its a 500 page book, and uninformed people are making opinions by just reading an edited version of page 498 and then saying they are good. Losers will continue to be willfully uninformed, but most people that matter will eventually get around to read the whole book; and get the big picture. There is absolutely nothing honorable about how the IRGC has been acting for 45 years.
There is a reason they have almost no support in the whole world, except for uninformed loser leftist Westerners and fellow Shia religious extremists spread through the Arab world.
Even their allies don't actually support their imperialist misadventures, which pretty much always end in calamity. What Iranian intervention in a foreign country over the last 45 years has worked out well for the people of that country?
China a couple days ago even publicly rebuked Iran for its rhetoric about attacking shipping in the Persian Gulf, which is pretty big deal. Putin said there was 2 million Russian speakers in Israel, which is why he didn't just outwardly back Iran in the current fighting (I dont know if this is true, and I seriously doubt this is the real reason, but still going out and saying something like this publicly is a big deal as far as signaling to Iran their actions are unacceptable)
Dictatorships generally dont publicly rebuke or disagree with each other in public like liberal democracies do.
Did we determine whether the launch happened before the ceasefire whistle was blown or point of impact? Seems like a +3 minute rule for Israel would fix everything here.
Imagine going to WW3 over these two neanderthals.
They kill journalists and paramedics on purpose. They shoot homeless civilians at food banks.
Imagine thinking Israel would ever respect a ceasefire.

According to the average Gen Zer, the book starts with the Palestinians living as refugees for decades while the Israelis have been living a US-subsidized first-world lifestyle on what used to be their land, and continues with the Isrealis doing stuff like tell people they are going to meet them on Sunday and then murdering them and their entire family.
If you are coming to the situation with a fresh mind, this is far worse than anything the Iranians have done. China and Russia support doesn't matter. The only thing that matters in this conflict is US support, because without it, Israel can't exist.
It all looks horrible if you close your eyes and donβt look at whatβs happening in the West Bank, where people cooperate with Israel and actually have decent lives/economy, this despite the fact that Gaza clearly has the upper hand in natural resources and as a point of trade potentially for the entire world. Itβs really disgusting what Hamas has done to squander Gazaβs natural advantages that they should have.
oh ya the West Bank is just rainbows and unicorns.

That's an unusual view.

Gazans aren't allowed to fish beyond sight of land, aren't necessarily allowed to work the fields without getting shot from across the fence (and this was before the current war), and Israel controls and chokes the power and water and all human movement in and out of the enclave.
right, its an insane view. they have stolen a ton of land and destroyed a ton of houses in the West Bank while taking thousands of hostages.
heres an interview with a dual citizen professor who says that most of his friends are dead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2biEpNV... this is a man with naturalized American citizenship who is committed to non-violence. or at least he was, towards the end of the interview he questions what the point is.

West Bank, prior to Oct 7th, did enjoy a pretty decent GDP/capita but:
1. the economy of the west bank has deteriorated dramatically as Israel began cracking down
2. this doesn't really fully offset on how Israel has made Palestinians second class residents on Palestinian governed lands and the slow but seeming inexorable encroachment of Israeli settlements destroying the continuity of Palestinian lands
Gaza has been under lockdown for decades. The idea that it could trade meaningfully with rest of the world is absurd. You'd be better off arguing that it could have traded if not for Hamas abusing the trade routes to import weapons and export terror.
That's an unusual view.

But some posters love the apartheid.
Im trying to figure out how the iran situation is any different today than it was two weeks ago.

this is just a reprieve. its an intermission. now both sides are going to work on their weaknesses.
Israel will refill their interceptor supply and continue supporting Mossad terrorists.
Iran will ramp up missile production, fix their launchers, upgrade their air defense and work to root out terrorist spies.
its clear that Israel is not able to handle going head to head with Iran. their population just cannot accept their buildings getting bombed. so they will set up for another terrorist decapitation strike and return to war in a few months or years.
the main difference between this and Lebanon or Gaza where Israel was free to continue the mass murder despite ceasefire agreements is that Iran can hit back so theres a deterrent.
