Israel / Iran thread
Seems like this conflict is not going to end anytime soon and is worthy of its own thread.
According to the average Gen Zer, the book starts with the Palestinians living as refugees for decades while the Israelis have been living a US-subsidized first-world lifestyle on what used to be their land, and continues with the Isrealis doing stuff like tell people they are going to meet them on Sunday and then murdering them and their entire family. If you are coming to the
Israel can exist perfectly fine without US support. You may not like that, but itβs true.
Now that there is no more fighting looks to be a pretty successful mission by Israel and we are getting close to the end of all the conflicts including Gaza.
Israel cant handle missiles falling on their cities. they were begging for American help and a ceasefire. they will regroup and try to end Iran as a threat during the ceasefire and maybe they will be successful. but they could not sustain constant attacks on their cities. typical bully that can dish it but cant handle it.
Well, at least they're more than a few weeks away!
Clownshow at 1600.
West Bank, prior to Oct 7th, did enjoy a pretty decent GDP/capita but:1. the economy of the west bank has deteriorated dramatically as Israel began cracking down2. this doesn't really fully offset on how Israel has made Palestinians second class residents on Palestinian governed lands and the slow but seeming inexorable encroachment of Israeli settlements destroying the continu
Depends on what you mean by on lockdown. And they never seriously wanted to cooperate with Israel, else they would have denounced the disgusting and vile rhetoric that they have had throughout the span of their organization.
I donβt think it offsets anything but it does go to show that diplomatic relations between Palestinians and Israelis are possible.
Israeli Navy itself called what they've been doing in the Gazan waters a "blockade" if you don't like the word lockdown.
Happy?

looks like supporting Iran was a bridge too far for many progressives
The US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities did not destroy the country's nuclear programme and probably only set it back by months, according to an early Pentagon intelligence assessment of the attack.
The Islamic Republic's stockpile of enriched uranium was not eliminated in the bombings, sources familiar with an evaluation by the Defense Intelligence Agency told the BBC's US partner CBS.
The White House said the initial damage assessment was "flat-out wrong" and "a clear attempt to demean" President Donald Trump.

Iranian human/women's rights activists have been protesting against the regime's horrific human rights abuses for decades, and have been completely scorned by the greater progressive community, which has been generally supportive of the IRGC.
Nothing that has happened in the last couple weeks is going to cause the vast majority of progressives to soul search over this. If anything it will be the opposite and they will double down on their support of the IRGC.
He was on TV the other day:
Based on the provided search results, Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that the enriched uranium had been moved.
He confirmed this in a text message and in an interview on CNN, noting that Iran had made no secret of protecting the material. He also mentioned that the IAEA had last seen the fuel a week before the strikes began.
He added that the 60% enriched uranium, which is enough to make about nine nuclear weapons, is stored in relatively small containers that could fit easily into cars. If it were moved, tracking it down would be challenging. He also stated that the agency does not know the location of all of Iran's centrifuges.
Estimates based on Iran's program:
Starting with natural uranium: A facility with 3,000 of Iran's IR-6 centrifuges could produce enough weapons-grade uranium for one weapon in roughly two and a half months, and enough for five weapons in twelve months.
Starting with existing stockpiles: If Iran were to use its existing stockpiles of 20% or 60% enriched uranium, it could produce weapons-grade uranium in a matter of days or weeks
So while we can think of plenty of reasons for why Israel would say "days away" it really looks like they were. And that's based on what we do know. Israel's intel could have picked up something as well. And I thought either he or someone else said that Iran would only need about a dozen centrifuges to get their stockpile of 60% up to 90% but haven't been able to source.
We know they want a nuke but I doubt they want it to use it on Israel. That's pretty much game over for them if they do. So deterrence mostly but a huge slap in the face for both Israel and the US if they get there. Or maybe they already are. They ramped the program up quite a bit when Trump was elected so maybe they were expecting something like this when they reached this point.

Idk I guess Iβm more hopeful because there certainly wasnβt an outcry of support from the activist community in LA. There was a very small protest in downtown LA, mostly people opposing Trump for going to war unilaterally, not supporting the Iranian regime it seemed like.
Whereas you can find plenty of misguided support for Hamas.

That’s a pretty sweeping generalization. Most progressives I know support Iranian women’s rights and have consistently condemned authoritarianism, including the IRGC. Criticizing Western foreign policy or opposing interventionism isn’t the same as ‘supporting’ the IRGC. If anything, it’s the neocon crowd that spent decades propping up regimes across the region, including funding groups like the MEK and cozying up to Saudi Arabia, despite their records on women’s rights. Maybe the real soul-searching should start there.
You continue to make horrible generalizations that no one has stood against in this thread to their dramatic discredit.
Why havenβt more of the so called βpro-jewish voicesβ done a better job at standing up to dunyains insane assertions? They represent like 0.02% of Americans.

Hello, children.
Being opposed to the bombing of Iran does not necessarily mean that one supports Iran's government. There are plenty of "progressives" who don't support Iran whatsoever and also claim that the bombing was unjust.
You two are hardcore Clash Of Civilization types, particularly Dunyain The Barbarian, so you naturally regard all opposition to anything "our side" does to "the other side", as inherently bad, but normal people recognize the bombing was unjust AND ALSO recognize Iran's government is socially repressive and feel no need to defend it.
Has anyone started a GoFundMe yet for all the freeway-sitters in America to be given plane tickets to protest civil rights on Iranian freeways instead?
At least those "March to Palestine" people who were stopped by the Egyptians at the border put their money where their mouths were.
Protesting human rights and progressive ideals in America has long since hit the point of severely diminished returns. You might get the USA from a 97 to a 98 on the 1-100 woke scale with enormous effort, but huge swaths of the planet are currently sitting at a 2. You could really make a difference on getting that global average score up.
In short: go be annoying somewhere else.
The mouth breathers can’t handle a ball player peacefully kneeling before a game. No protest will ever be “appropriate” enough for them.

Well many people defend the government of Gaza as being really good and just actually, and that Oct 7 was an act of resistance.
