2025 World Series of Poker May 27th - July 16th
What would go down as a bigger upset, Moneymaker winning the main or Esther Taylor winning this year's PPC?

By and large, nobody playing the $50k PPC is an underdog in the same sense as a rank amateur. With few exceptions, you don't play the PPC unless you are already an accomplished player. I don't think it is comparable.

Tbh, Brad Owen strikes me as a βrank amateurβ relative to that field.
Heβs certainly an accomplished player in some sense, but as far as I know he has basically no mixed-game experience outside of one other tournament.
Winning the PPC 3 times was already the greatest accomplishment in WSOP history. Fourth is GOAT territory.
It should make him a nominee for the HOF next year. However, there is a huge backlog of qualified players, etc. and other mixed game players with WSOP results.
I actually just found out not only is Grinder not even in the HOF yet hes not even nominated.
Grinder winning 3 PPC is more impressive then Ivey's 11 bracelets of a bunch of different mixed events IMO.

Him not being at least among the finalists is a travesty.in fact I think with his 4th ppc win heβs the clear cut choice to be nominated to the hall this year. WSOP simply didnβt assume heβd win yet another time. What a crusher
It looks like he is not going to get it. Got HU ahead 15-1, but now down about that.
So he wins it like 1 in 5 times over a decent sample. Not bad.
Hmmm more like 1 in 4 or better.
Respect to grinder but this statement is crazy. he just won it a 4th time but still 10 bracelets used to be the record for a long time until hellmuth went off.
PPC is the most stacked field on the planet and hes now won it 4 times. Winning random 1k-5k tournies full of donkies 11 times is nowhere near as impressive, its the same scenario people trash talk Helmuth about where he can't win a high roller but he can beat up on a field of bad players for 17 bracelets.

Pokernews chip counts had a big error in it, Im assuming thats why you said this.
Based on the hand description on Poker News, seems like Mizrachi made a hell of a play on the last hand too. Shows the depth of strategy in these mixed games that you never get a chance to see in NL.
I have some buddies from the SoFla underground poker circuit, and they have mentioned that he made his rounds first as a damn good cash game player of all games (specifically nlhe and plo). However he was a very to himself kinda guy and pretty much only interacted with his brother. I would imagine that he never swaps with any vegas tourney regulars and doesnβt βtalk pokerβ am
Massive respect to anyone who can get to the absolute top without being buddy buddy with all the other regs. Sounds like the kind of guy who would have been HoF already but is being overlooked because hes not part of the in group.
Yeah, amazing he hasn't even been nominated for the HOF. Should get in next year, even with all the competition. He was first eligible in 2021, when Eli Elezra was chosen to do a favor to the whale the HOF members were making money from.
Impressive by Matusow and Lindgren cashing in the PPC. If Matusow had made the final table, it would have helped his HOF candidacy. Should help them selling action.
You mean going for back-to-back-to-back HU in the Ladies event.
In 2023 when she finished 2nd, she entered Day 4 as chip leader, having 46% of the chips 7-handed.
This year Shiina enters Day 4 as chip leader but with only 28% of the chips in play. Phenomenal effort over three years.
Didn’t someone get the HU three years in a row in the same event in the last decade? Think it might have been a low stakes PLO event.
Will we have our first ever 1 billion chip pot when we get towards the end of the Gladiator event?!

I think it makes him the odds on favorite to be the selection. Not just for the 4 PPC titles alone, but for the 6 total bracelets and 2 WPT titles as well.

Adam Friedman certainly qualifies here as he won the 2018, 2019, and 2021 $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship (event not held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic).
But you're thinking of somebody else?
And of course Johnny Chan took down the 1987 and 1988 Main Events before falling heads up to Phil Hellmuth in 1989.
