Started a €150 to €10k Holdem challenge

Yeah so been out of poker for a few months due to personal and financial reasons, essentially had to withdraw my old roll and work on other things for a while. But know I'm in a better place and have energy and time to play more. Not a pro or anything, I don't really have ambition or time to climb up ASAP, I just enjoy playing, studying, and learning new things. I have about €150 in my roll rn and planning on not withdrawing any money from it but reserve the right to do so if I want or need it lol. After all I do this mostly for fun but I'm a pretty competitive personality and therefore when I do play or study, I take it seriously. I enjoyed watching the Coinpoker champs last month and it kind of inspired me to post this and challenge myself. So I'm actually just gonna be tracking my results and I'll consider this one done when I've reached 10k in profit.

I've played quite a bit before, mostly 6-max cash between 5NL-50NL. Completing this challenge shouldn't really be an issue as long as I'm patient because I've done it before. Just need the volume. I've never really been much of a shot taker so not going to play stakes I'm not comfortable playing. Sometimes it will be a BR issue, sometimes mental like confidence or just not feeling like a beast right then 😃. I started at 5NL and a bit of 10NL, will probably take some side 20NL when I reach 400€, 50NL at €1500 etc.

I do enjoy playing smallish field MTT's every once in a while, especially old school rebuy add-on ones, but I've studied them a lot less than cash so they'll likely remain just a side hobby. I just sometimes feel it's refreshing to do something different. They're still almost certainly +EV at anything lower than €50 bi for me since I play on a mega soft site.

The site where I play is absurdly soft at micros (geofenced, Western Europe), fields and pools are small so you get to know the other reg's and fish reg's tendencies pretty quickly, which is ofc good for us. The rake is also probably the lowest in the world at 3% nfnd and pretty low caps, which obviously makes this doable in a lot shorter time period than say on Stars, GG, 888 etc., however no RB or any promos etc. I'm not setting up any evbb/100 or volume goals or anything, but I do know that quite a few people have smashed this site with absurd graphs in micros, let's see how I'll fare. 😃

Pretty hot start. 6-tabled 4 5NL tables and 2 10NL tables. Played well for the most part I think, had just came back home from my walk, had lunch, did a bit of drilling on GTOW before playing and ran some sims on Pio. Not that it really matters that much (or at all lol) in games like these, but I am continuing to build a simpler and more easily executable strat for myself on pio and kind of build a foundation there so that if I ever somehow make it to 100NL or higher, then I have something to build on. I started doing that last winter and now I just kind of continue where I stopped a few months ago. I also kind of just like playing around with it 😃. I find it easier to study before playing and it also kind of makes me want to play even more, which I think increases the quality of my game for that sesh.

Just to give an idea of what kind of games we are talking about, these happen multiple times every sesh. Luckier than average today in a way that I was on the winning side of these almost every time today. The first 3 hands nothing special going on apart from villains mega spewing either pre or post or both. The 4th hand was atrociously played by me. Flop I think is OK size for the mono board 3way, but I ****ing hate the turn sizing, should be half-potting at most I think. Can't really even remember what was going on in my head, I think maybe some kind of a winners tilt due to not seing fish flop flushes in a while on mono boards. Was planning on checking river after potting turn, probably would have bet-folded river if I got just two calls to a small size turn bet. Calling or folding the river small donk is kind of irrelevant IMO after blundering the turn myself, there's no such thing as MDF against these guys anyways.

Weird spot today. HJ has an RFI 11 from HJ. The player on the BTN cold calls 3bets way way too much and is pretty splashy as well. I kind of didn't want the nit the easy choice of ripping it pre OOP against a 3bet and a cold call, therefore just the flat call pre. I know my bet sizings OTF and OTT aren't really used in Nash equilibrium on this board and I think it's kind of irrelevant here anyways given the preflop and villain specific dynamics. I think there should be pretty much exactly one combo (Ah5h) of quads in their range that they might be just calling instead of check-raising the flop here. In game I still thought OTR that this a snap fold. 77 and 66 are more likely I think but not sure they even have those in their range here, AA, KK, and QQ would make sense as well. But now I'm kind of thinking my small bet sizes look thin af and that could induce some aggression they usually wouldn't find. I don't think I made a big mistake here by folding OTR or using small bet sizes, the flop and turn sizes were targeting their AX and the river size I wanted to use the highest size I was thought this particular lad would be hero calling wider. I just thought it was an interesting hand in a way how table dynamics and reads on villains will probably make max exploit game look a heck of a lot different than attempt to play some kind of pseudo GTO I couldn't execute properly anyways.

I think there would be some merit in adjusting my pre range here by folding pretty much all TT-77'ish, but calling at least 55-33'ish at least some of the time. Yeah I know a lot of people will say just 3bet/fold pre here regardless of table dynamics, but no, with this rake structure we can get away with calling a lot higher frequency here than sites with 5% rake. It's 5NL after all, nobody is paying any attention to balances or imbalances in our ranges anyways. I can't remember for sure how HR would adjust here based on villain RFI HJ 11 alone, but I'm guessing it would be a pretty straightforward fold or indifferent mix of stuff. But I still kind of think call could be OK since villain probably makes enough mistakes post flop to make up for our possible small preflop mistake.

Kind of uggly spot OTR. I think I should probably check the turn and am kind of asking for trouble by potting the turn here with this particular hand. OTOH my turn bet and Villain's call after two seconds of thinking make it pretty certain they got something like AQs, AJs, JJ. The last one is ruled out by their river bet afterwards. I was actually thinking about turning this into a xr bluff OTR, but I've seen this particular lad being a bit too sticky with their TPGK in large pots, especially with just 40 bb left behind in a 300 bb pot potentially in the making. Their WSD is 62, WWSF 35, and WTSD 26. Non-small WSD 67, so I think hero calling river is out of the question as well. I know check raising probably shouldn't be a thing here with the Ah. Just wondering what my bluffs should be here against someone else leaving a bit more blinds behind, maybe AJ, AQ without hearts, maybe JT, KJ, KQ without hearts? I don't think I would ever bluff bet river here with above zero sdv hand given villain's turn timing tell, which probably makes my river x range super exploitably weak. Without the timing tell then yeah for sure some JX combos at least could probably send it and print.

Pretty nice to be running like this to start, will probably drop 5NL pretty soon and go back if I dust off 10 bi at 10NL. Kinda weird my redline is going up given how much less stationy I've been on purpose than my normal play before. I'm guessing it's just that I'm running into thin value bet spots more often than normal and getting a lot of folds. Will be interesting to see where it starts to go when I've been doing this longer.

Sun running continues . Was kind of trying to have a bit fun, play around with different RFI sizes, seeing how much I could get away with calling and/or raising pretty close to all SRP flop leads by fish with essentially air, and then blasting off to all checks or block sizes on later streets. I mean I have been doing that before as well but now I just tried to keep it as a focus point.

Pretty weird hand again. Back in the winter I remember studying fish tendencies in pot size all-in and non-all-in donk bets on draw completing turns and rivers with my H2N data. I can't remember exactly where I decided my calling thresholds should be, but it was something like TPGK and worse starts folding on most boards. In this one obviously not folding against anyone especially with the Js, but in game I was thinking something like JT might be close or a cry call.

Here nothing special going on, but preflop I noticed this is probably the first time I've seen a pool a reg size up their 4bets 150+ eff stacks like we they should. This guy is probably one of the best regs in the pool (10-20NL) and actually pretty tricky to play against, because I do know that he does make adjustments against me in particular. So there's always a little bit leveling going on I think, which is so fun. They are for an example def overfolding in most spots against the pool by looking at their postflop HUD stats, but has done tons of hero calling against me, which is absolutely a correct adjustment 😆

This I'm not 100 percent sure I should be calling OTR. I do realize we block a **** ton of villain's AK, and therefore should probably call OTR. Results make it look obvious, but playing this one IRL was never obvious to me apart from the river call.

Some decent cash volume today. Shitty weather outside here so I just decided it's going to be a full day of poker. Think I played OK'ish, started to get frustrated at some point, I had simultaneously a few very splashy tables open, and absolutely card dead for a long time on those. It's so frustrating to see the mega whale of the table absolutely spewing away to everyone else while I'm there VPIP'ing like 14 for 150 hands straight 😃. Pretty happy I still just managed to stay disciplined throughout the sesh.

Late regged a couple of small rebuy MTT's as well. Haven't played them in months so it was really fun to play. Busted one, 3rd place in the other so good start on those as well.

255.37 euro profit total now since the start of the challenge a week ago, so about 2.5% complete haha.

Literally the most useless holdem advice I ever heard: "Iso-raising limpers should be around our normal OR plus one additional bb per every limper. 1 or 2 more OOP. You can size up a bit if they are very sticky preflop".

This one seemed pretty obvious preflop for a couple of reasons.

1. BTN has a wide 3bet range and therefore has to fold quite a lot. They seem reasonably OK'ish for a short stacker, but not sure OK enough to realize how wide my jam range here was going to be and therefore calling light.
2. Two capped ranges cold calling and therefore a lot of dead money in the middle. SB was in a monkey tilt and I believe wasn't folding pretty much anything here, so even more of an easy jam for us.

I mean this does feel a bit whaley by me, given the fact I could have just called the 3bet and see what happens, but the SB dynamic kind of changes it I think, because I was so certain most of the time it's gonna be a preflop fold by BTN and then we're flipping against whatever random dung the SB calls with, and then 20+ bb in the middle already. If I just call here, the SB isn't putting much more money in the middle with air.

Not sure though anymore, the result was what it was and we got lucky.

This one sucked lol. Not sure I like my flop jam, but I just thought it's probably not a terrible EV mistake and makes life pretty easy, pretty much flipping against virtually all of that 4bet range. The pre squeeze is questionable but not folding against the 4bet sizing anymore.

After this river sizing and about 5 s timing before betting, I was convinced this was thin with 12 combos of overpairs, 16 combos of KQ and AQ, maybe 2 QJs, which I don't think nits recognize as a better thin value bet candidate then KQ. No way do I believe anyone at these stakes balances their IP small river bets in any way, unless inducing with an even smaller size when they rarely feel very tricky. Just will not believe it before I see it. KJs would likely have gone larger OTT given this is a nit who are scared of flush draws on the board when they got the nuts. KJo is probably not in that RFI UTG range to begin with, so nah I don't think so. No A6s either for flop and turn action reasons. I'm just so sure their boats would have bet big OTR and therefore decide to go for the jam and expect them to be sticky with their QX often enough to make this a value raise. Could have maybe just clicked it back and then talk myself into a bad fold if they take it as an insult and apeshit 3b jam lol. I kind of have a feeling, that nits overvalue their TPGK, overpairs and not good at folding them. Could be wrong though and biased because of the results lol.

I could share some pretty cool graphs from the past to make this thread more interesting. The problem is that the sites on which I played those, it would ne kind of unfair to those who managed to survive elsewhere

None of those graphs are representative of what I'm trying to do now, just honestly try to wanna grind more an play to be honest lol

All of those are YTD

All tracked games during the last year or so far

not sure why I even shared those lol. someone told me to post some cool graphs and i might get some visitors, there they are lol

Since the start of the challenge, I don't think I've been this much above All-in EQ within such a small sample in a while but I'll take it.

Kind of a mini downswing behind and recovered, played a pretty wild 2-table HU sesh last night against someone after everyone else had quit, which was kind of a roller coaster. Didn't really know much about that particular player, but seemed OK for these stakes, lots of 4betting and post flop pressure. Towards the end after a cooler or two and a pretty loose bluff catch by me it seemed like they started steaming a bit, which made everything worse for them.

Questionable call 3bet by me preflop I think, but I was kind of anticipating some pretty big blundering by villain by the river. Seemed like a guy who's more willing to err on the side of aggression than stationing, hence the turn check back. Flop 2bet by me mostly to induce, had seen them 3bet jamming some flops in 3b and 4b pots before, probably with scared overpairs and fd overcards. Not sure though, pretty late at night and brain already kind of mush.

BB bets 108.5 BB, Hero calls 108.5 BB

Hero shows 6 J (Full House, Jacks full of Sixes)
(Pre 17%, Flop 75%, Turn 95%)
BB shows Q Q (Two Pair, Queens and Jacks)
(Pre 83%, Flop 25%, Turn 5%)
Hero wins 278.8 BB
Rake paid 5 BB

Questionable call 3bet by me preflop I think, but I was kind of anticipating some pretty big blundering by villain by the river. Seemed like a guy who's more willing to err on the side of aggression than stationing, hence the turn check back. Flop 2bet by me mostly to induce, had seen them 3bet jamming some flops in 3b and 4b pots before, probably with scared overpairs and fd overcards. Not sure though, pretty late at night and brain already kind of mush.

Recovery in the process

Yeah in the process of doing that once again, just need a bit more roll to drop 10NL entirely, shouldn't take too long.

The reality for me is that I've been crushing NL10 pretty comfortably, but not so much NL20 or 50. Therefore for me it makes sense to just stay where I am.

Profit so far 524.18 euro. So about 5 percent challenge complete,
