I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Small sample size but Euros & Africans and sportsball Americans I’ve known seem most baffled by baseball.

Baseball is a subtle game to watch in person because it is difficult to get perspective on the pitching.

Silence, whore

Baseball is about zoning out and focusing on beer and hotdogs. You watch like 3 half innings of the whole game, get a little drunk, walk it off checking out the stadium, get a little drunk again, pound some junk food, and you don't miss anything important.

Most of baseball is batter vs pitcher. TV angle captures this well. If you really want to watch a baseball game, TV is where it's at.

90% of the seats in the stadium can't see the most crucial part of the game. I agree with the people who say live baseball is mostly.about things other than the subtleties.

And I'm a baseball fan.

Someone's explain to me golf on TV.
I would play it.
Watching it

I love that angle where they follow the ball through the sky as if there's something to see there.

American football is an unlikely candidate to be interesting to non-American viewers because it is a highly strategic, coaching-intensive game, and that element of the sport isn't very accessible unless you grew up around the sport. I don't know what to say to people who think that soccer is boring except "watch more of it." Is it annoying to watch some team bink an early goa

Soccer might be watchable if you cut the field to about 30% the size and made it like 6 on 6.

The only reason anyone watches soccer in North America is because immigrants are still coming. Anyone here before 1990 is unlikely to be interested.

I don't agree with this.

Professional soccer was huge for a while in the mid to late 1970's.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies and New York Cosmos were selling out on a regular basis iirc.

Baseball is boring af. Went to a game once and nearly fell asleep.

Msm is saying the NY shooter had a "Well documented history of mental health " and appeared to have a grudge against the NFL.

You can't really watch the game from 97% of the stadiums seats. 95% of baseball is the battle between pitcher and catcher, and the best angle for that is the TV angle. If you've never pitched or hit, your appreciation will be minimal also. SK I totally understand the boredom you reference. I did play at pretty high level, and baseball was my favorite sport growing up, but now I just follow the game and watch some highlights. It's hard to imagine slogging through actual games on a regular basis, in today's world there's too many.other things to do.

I'd fall asleep at a soccer game too. How stadiums full of people watch a game that boring is baffling. Alcohol I guess.

Both games at the highest level have fantastic athletes with incredible skill. But both sports do a very weak job of showcasing that talent for the audience.

I'm a lifelong sports fan but I think live sports are hugely over-rated (and way overpriced too). I'm actually surprised with how well television can show sports that so many people still go to attend games.

The last sporting event I attended was a tennis event in 2023. Went to a world baseball classic game earlier that year also. Might have been a 10 year + gap before that.

My biggest gripe with live sports is the seats. I'm a big guy and I have to fold my legs up to fit in stadium seats. It's really annoying for our home team because I've never been to a Rays game that was even half full. Make the damn seats roomier if you can't fill them. Although it's a moot point now since the roof blew off and no remedy in sight.

Case closed, Biden did it

To clarify I'm not a football/soccer fan either, I went to a baseball game when I was in Toronto and maybe it's because I'm not North American but I ws like " wtf is this game supposed to be about?". It just really bored me but to each their own.

If someone can explain to me how this is anything other than peak stupidity, I would love to hear it.

U.S.-funded contraceptives worth nearly $10 million are being sent to France from Belgium to be incinerated, after Washington rejected offers from the United Nations and family planning organisations to buy or ship the supplies to poor nations, two sources told Reuters.

You can't its just sheer stupidity . Should have shipped them to the Gaza strip how anyone brings a child into that mess ??

OK I get not supporting abortion but contraceptives its another 80/20 issue and probably a 95/5

Dumping them into the US water supply would be the most +EV use of them.

The most stupidest part is that apparently Belgium doesn't have incineration machines.

What do you mean? More STDs and babies in war torn and famished areas is a destabilizing factor. Sounds pretty smart if the goal is cruelty

The supplies are worth $9.7 million. We are paying $167K to destroy them. We will only sell them at a loss; there have been offers from NGOs. And we wonder how he went bankrupt running a casino.

(Obviously we wouldn’t sell them for $19.4 million. Destroying them is the point; the Christian Right has gone full Taliban on sex. We very close to incel suicide bombers think about the 77 virgins in heaven for killing infidels)

Yes, I'm not surprised. Like I said, you can't really watch a game from any of the seats in the stadium. You need some understanding of the pitcher/batter duel to appreciate baseball, and you can mostly only watch that on TV anyways. At most random seats, all you can really appreciate is the action that happens after a ball is put in play, which is pretty minimal action unfortunately, especially with the style of hitting that's developed. I agree, as far as action goes, baseball is unwatchable. But I've felt that way about soccer my whole life. I couldn't name one male soccer player from my country, can name one former female player because our national team is maybe 2nd best in the world? Only the international names like Messi or Beckham even ring a bell and I don't know any of their highlights or stats. If I want to watch a sport where players try to put things in their opponents net, I'll watch hockey or basketball which have 100 times the action. Soccer action is even less than baseball imo. Just watch the Simpsons joke about midfielders kicking the ball back and forth while a Spanish announcer goes out of his mind screaming about nothing.

Most of the reasons people actually go to a baseball game is about the culture, not the actual game. People appreciate the stadium (many of them are quite beautiful), the relaxed pace, the drinks and food, the family atmosphere, the memories of when they played as kids, being outside for a few hours, the connection to history that baseball has (mostly in the US) etc. As far as action viewable in the stadium goes, baseball is very lacking. I have to assume soccer appeals to fans for reasons other than the 90 minute game that might feature 5 legit scoring opportunities if you're lucky.

There should be specific seats marked as legroom seats for people like you.

Almost everything Carnivore says about baseball is incorrect.

Stats are not really the point of soccer.

I can well believe it.
