What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand

Very solid front 9.
The double of 4th came from a really bad tee shot with a 8 iron just hit it high in the face and went straight right and went OB. The the 5th bogey came from a blade wedge shot over the back.
Back 9 was meh. 11th bogey come from a bad 4 iron off the tee and then a pulled 5 iron. I actually hit a really good wedge shot to get myself 8 feet for par but just missed the putt.
12th, Hit driver off the tee and topped it into a hedge took a drop and played the hole ok from there.
13th I don't have a pitching wedge as the head come off. So I had to baby a 9 into it. I turned it over and flew the green. I found it amongst the trees and ended up making a really good 4.
14th Now this hole pissed me off so much. I hit a really good drive. I think I had about 145 into wind and hit a 9 iron and turned it over and went in a bush and was no shot I was finding it so I had to replay.
15th strike was really good but it went left. I turned around as the ball was in the air cause I thought it was going to be lost. Thankfully my playing partners kept eyes on it because I got a really good bounce. I got to it and it was in the rough but the best ever lie you'd get in the rough. 2nd shot asked for a draw. I hit it so good but hit this skinny tree and dropped straight down. Had to chip something to the green. Ended up 3 putting 2nd putt I wasn't focused at all.
17th another 3 putt.
18th... I had 170 to a back flag. Wind slightly helping. 2 playing partners before me both hit 7 iron. Both decent strikes, 1 guy is shorter than me and was front edge other guy is longer than me and hits 7 as well and gets to front edge. So I hit 7. Flew the green on the left and was lucky it didn't run off into the water. I was like wtf!!!
I'm happy with the way I played. Wind was gusting a bit and the UK is in a drought at the moment so you get some funky lies in the fairway. I will say though we paid £18 each and the greens were really good.
Mentioning my pitching wedge and the head coming off I noticed a few months back that it started coming away from the ferrell, I hit a shot the other week and it come off. I've noticed a few of my other heads are starting to come off as well. I'm going to have to get them redone. I want to get some new clubs soon though but right now I don't have time to get fit and want them before I go away at the end of the month. So I might just order the same shafts and go from the original stealths to the p790's.

awesome stuff BigE
40 (par 35). 1 birdie, no double bogeys.
Ball striking was fine, popped up one driver and put it on the bench, otherwise no issues. Chipping wasn't good - I have no idea how to hit out of the super thick rough near the green. But mostly the score suffered as the result of missed 3 footers. Argh.
Par 72(36/36) 6,000 yards 69.5/132
Sent us off the back. Sunny and 80 with 5-10mph occasional winds. Beautiful day.

Hit it pretty well, just didn't make any putts.
Ended with a 3-putt triple on the last hole after dumping my approach into the water.
Back to the home course tomorrow.
League last night. Also 80° with Canadian smoke.
45. my classic collapse on 9 with a quad bogey. round was absolutely fine until that disaster.

Putting was atrocious. Missed some good birdie chances. 3 3-putt bogeys on the back 9.
18 was a wild ride. Hooked drive so badly a provisional was required. (I rarely hook. My miss off the tee is typically right.) Hooked that one too, but not as badly. Found provisional, hit it and it felt great, but never saw it. Found original and when assessing the situation see the provisional on the green. Original was a bit in jail, so hooking 145 yard low punch 7-iron was required. Ran it up thru the green past the provisional just into the rough pin-high. Pick up provisional. Chip original in for birdie and 79.
Playing somewhere tomorrow.
45-41-86. No birdies, 1 double bogey, 1 triple bogey. 70.3/135/6027.
Thoroughbred GC in Rothbury, MI. A really nice Arthur Hills design that's had a history of conditioning issues. Played it last year and it was apparent that they were trying to bring it back. More progress this year, greens are in good shape. Fairways mostly good. Tee boxes were trash and a lot of weedwacking should be done around the periphery. If some money were invested this could be a truly elite course, but then again that would probably triple the very reasonable green fee.
Front nine was a flurry of bad short game bogeys. Played better on the back, other than a sloppy double at the last. Hit three drivers, one awful and two poor/borderline popups. Hopng to spend an hour before tomorrow's round on the range trying to figure it out.
a 79 with four three jacks
mother of god
I guess 1 on a par 3 was technically a 2-putt….Hit green with tee shot. Putt ball off green into 1-inch of rough. Knock ball back onto the green. Sink 15 footer to avoid double.
I used my putter to whack it back into the green, so I called it a 3-putt. (Given that I had to bury a 15 footer it probably should have been a 4-putt.)
for PGA stats, every shot once the ball is resting on the green is a "putt" regardless of what club is used. I once putted a ball that caught a ridge, rolled off the green down a hill into a hazard. Dropped, chipped up, and took two putts from there for a "five putt" that featured three actual putts.

Home course again. Rained a bunch in the morning, but was sunny and warm when I teed off.
85(43/42)
5/14 fairways, 6/18 greens.
1 birdie, 6 pars, 9 bogeys, 1 double and a triple.
4 1-putts, 3 3-putts. 35 putts.
Triple was on a scorable par 5. Dumped 2nd shot in the drink going for it. Stupid.
Want to take tomorrow off to practice, but may end up playing.

3 1-putts, 3 3-putts.
Hit my irons better than I have in ages. Played the par 3s 1 under. Compressed the ball and found the club face often.
Wasted 3 shots on duffed chips (the 70 yard chip befuddles me) and a few more on grotesque 3-putts.
3 doubles in the last 6 holes, including a 3-putt double on the last.
Back at it tomorrow.
40-42-82. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey, 1 triple. 67.8/126/5573
Didn't get a full hour but had enough time on the range before the round to come up with a patch for the driver issues. Started out hot, -1 through 5 before making a brain dead double on 6, followed by three bogeys and the triple. Got it back together to finish +3 over the last 8. Even managed to be pin high in 2 on a par 5, that's a rarity.

Only hit 2 fairways and 2 greens on the front. Didn't get it going until the 2nd 9. Missed a 17 footer from the fringe for eagle after a gorgeous 5 wood from 245 out.
Back at a different course tomorrow.

Playing 36 today for the first time ever. Just finished 18 at the home course. Time for lunch, a nap and then 18 more at a course I've played 4 times.

Now that I'm back to playing on at least a weekly basis it's time to start posting scores again.

1 birdie, 4 bogeys, three of which were 3 putts(two were technically 2 putts because I was just off the green but whatever, flat stick strokes). Drove the ball great and was playing from the fairway almost all day. Made two par putts from outside 15' but missed three birdie putts inside 10'.
I just moved into a community with four courses, all within a 3-6 minute golf cart ride from the house. The resident rates I get, made even better by having my own cart now, make it so it's going to be hard for me to play anywhere else, especially during the prime season(fall-early spring here in AZ). And the guest rates make it so my buddies aren't going to want to play anywhere else, either. I've played all four of them over a dozen times each over the past 13 years but it's going to be fun having them as my "home courses". It's a 55+ community but allow up to 10% to be 45+ if they don't have kids living with them. We finally qualify! Cheers to getting older.

No birdies, 4 bogeys, 1 double after what I thought was a simple greenside bunker shot got bladed over the green when the bunker turned out to be closer to concrete than sand. Nothing was quite as sharp as when I played a few days prior. Driver let me down a few times, still didn't make any putts, and mixed in a few "wtf was that?" shots as well. Teeing off at 2:00 on a day it was about 110 degrees out didn't help. I felt like I spent more time trying to stay cool than caring about golf. Oh well, such is life in Phoenix. The beers were cold.
Playing the same course again Sunday morning, then up to Vegas next week for a round on Friday. Looking forward to that one, though the 10:07 tee time on a day it's going to be 110 out is going to be a little rough. Though that's the price we pay to be able to golf in 65-70 degree weather most of the winter.
44-40-84 (par 36-35-71). No birdies, 3 double bogeys. 69.3/128/5886.
Not too many positives. Made a few pars after really awful tee balls. But mostly just made bogeys due to poor ball striking, indifferent chipping and pitching, and bad putting.
Played a few times.
Went on a society day to a nice club some might describe it as a US course in the UK, just because we don’t usually have houses on the course. The houses were amazing, I’d imagine owned by some footballers on a nice wage.
The place is called Skylark country club. 40 or so people went. Had nearest to the pin on every par 3 and on the 17th par 3 they had a hole in one prize of £1,000. I was one of the last groups to come in but someone got real close to it was about a foot past the pin.
I played decent on a quirky course that I’ve never played. Shot +13 5 over handicap. Few to many doubles to actually make a really good score. One funny thing was all the groups behind us were on the 1st whilst I was teeing. I got a lot of stick for pulling out the 4 iron. Hole is only 250 and it’s bouncy as hell and I was about 15 short after I hit it. They all went pretty quiet after I hit it
Today played a cup in memory of someone who passed away a couple of years ago. Was a decent day but my playing partners drained the life out of me. Always looking for balls and hitting their balls and not watching them, then asking me if I saw it…. Also one of the guys was constantly talking whilst I was swinging. I’ve actually never been more angry on the course. It was a shame cause I was playing well. +3 thru 12 and then ended up coming in as +6.
2 weeks until our annual trip away, going for a Ryder cup style theme this year which should be fun.

0 Birdies, 3 bogeys. What a boring round. I didn't do anything particularly well but stayed out of trouble all day. Every hole was the same thing - in or near the fairway, on or near the green in regulation, lagging it up close from 15-40 feet, tapping in for par. Made one par putt from about 25' but I don't think I made anything else outside 7-8'. That's been a common theme lately. 2 or 3 up and downs from just off the green but never on the par 5's. No great iron shots where you stick it to a few feet for a tap in birdie, but no completely terrible shots, either. So yeah, a boring round considering the score.
