Funny how this works my career was from something similar.

The variance that just got us here alive and in this form is truly mind boggling

How so?

current one...only 7 months in, so doesn't qualify for life partner status, but it's indicative of where I'm at in my life. I went up and introduced myself to her while she was waiting at the coffee shop, said I was interested to get to know her and asked her if she'd like to go for a coffee or a drink or go for a walk with me. had done some research and knew her name and a l

What shifted for you to see there’s nothing to lose and something to gain?

Do you think that kind of mindset only comes with age, or could someone younger embrace it too?

I think anyone can embrace it and I think it’s healthy to do so

There was a debate between two of the winning players in my casino a few days ago. The situation they talked about was, a new player sits down at a 2-4 game. After a few hands he open-raises to 120$ (iiuc this was the first hand he played) with a 600 stack. One of the winning players was on this table on the BN, with KK and a larger stack. Should he fold, call, non-jam-raise, or jam?

It’s not very interesting

Had a bunch of one night stands, bad dates and one longer stint dating someone from tinder and bumble then finally had a good one

Temporarily a dating forum. Mostly it's a winter sport forum!

Typed out a long answer to RtP's question and lost it to an expired token.

CLIFFS: It's an EV calc. If you don't ask, you are basically drawing dead. If you do ask, the odds might be long, but all you are risking is being told no, which is functionally the same outcome as not asking. When you're young, dealing with the embarrassment of actually hearing no is tough, but hopefully by now you've heard no enough times that you realize it's not that big a deal.

I mean, would you not enter a chess tournament because you're afraid you won't win it? Can't win if you don't play, and losing a game is not that big a deal. I'm considered one of the top martial artists in my form (well, in my prime I was), and I've entered way more tournaments that I didn't win than those I did.

I met my ex on 2p2. That's gotta be pretty rare.

It's been many years since we broke up I don't think it matters at this point.

I’m not sure why fold is listed but typically you should put your AA, KK, AKs in your non-jam size and everything else goes big.

it doesn’t really have anything to do with “balance” or “gto” more so combinatorics.

AKo is usually your main equity pushing “bluff” with regards to 4-betting preflop at any stake.

Also it’s better to think about all of this in terms of big blinds. Listing out the dollar amounts in a spot like this makes it more difficult to analyze and review efficiently.

It's a 30BB open, but I seriously think that misses the point. If this were 1-2 and he opened 60$, this wouldn't be the same as a 120$ open in 2-4. (Whereas if it were 1-2 and he opened 120$, at least I would feel like it's similar to the 120$ here.) It's so far beyond the blinds that I don't think the # of blinds particularly matters (although I think stack size does).

it definitely matters because every combo wants to put a certain number of bb in in any given spot depending on the situation and dynamics.

trying to figure out what range the guy is opening to 30bb with in some ghost spot that will never happen again at 2/4 live is missing the point.

Well it was a real situation that happened, so you gotta make a choice. If you jam, you're implicitly putting your opponent on a range larger than KK+. If you fold, you're implicitly putting him on either KK+ or just AA. (Or I guess you could non-jam-raise and fold if he goes all-in.) Any choice you make is only logically consistent under a certain range, so you don't have the choice not to range him; you're implicitly ranging him by what you do.

What actually happened (will spoil in case someone else wants to respond before seeing):

In the actual hand, the player jammed and got called; the other guy had AA. The BN went home after that hand.

In the conversation, that player said that you can't fold KK without knowing anything about villain (so he was arguing that what he did was correct). The other guy (who fwiw is definitely the stronger player, villain from this hand) was saying that you should fold because it's always AA.

did.

To add to this part, when you have self esteem than hearing ‘no’ actually isn’t humiliating at all - you can argue it’s a good thing. You are confident that you/your partnership has value, so if someone else isn’t attracted to you/ doesn’t see that, then that’s fine - it means you now ‘know’ and can move on to find someone who is.

Guy I know came over today to take some of the old construction/dead tree wood laying around for his home heating needs this winter. Some he could use was behind the Subie, so I told him to let me pull up a bit to make it easier to get to.

Jump in, turn the key. Nothing. Deadness, not even lights, much less turning over.

We got him loaded up, and then I called AAA. After a little while, Victor showed up, put on his app, and saw the battery was super low, and not taking the charge very well. I told him I'd run up to O'Reilly (< 1 mile away) and get a test and a new battery. He pointed out they have them on the truck, I could get one direct from him.

Looks on his phone, tells me it's just under $300. Tells me it's probably better to go to the auto parts store.

Head up there, at the stoplight coming out of my neighborhood, car died again. Fortunately, I had Victor's #, and he was able and willing to run over to the intersection and get me going. Nice job, Victor, thank you very much!

Got up to O'Reilly, their guy hooked up his tester and said that yeah, it was dead. We went in, he looked up what we needed. With tax & core charge, the new one was....$282.

Ah well, shoulda just had Victor throw one in. No harm done though.

For those of you with a lot of life experience: I’d love to hear your thoughts on love, marriage, and raising kids. Do you think there’s an ideal timing or stage of life for these things, or does it just depend on the person? Looking back, what do you wish you knew about relationships, marriage (whether love or arranged), and family 20–30 years ago that you’d want younger peopl

I would set your cutoff at 35. Perhaps lower if your community has a sharply different normal age of marriage. Dating 40+ is bad because they are all single moms.
