The ATP/WTA Tennis thread
The cluster**** to the AO seems to have been resolved, and we're ready to fire up the hype for 2021.
I'm running a season
Like most other people, I just have a hard time imagining Novak beating Alcaraz and Sinner in back to back matches. Sinner almost never gives matches away to anyone, and Alcaraz doesn't give matches away to players like Novak in slams. I just don't see Novak beating either guy in a match that is much under 4 hours. Asking him to win two long matches like that in three days just feels like too much for him at this age.
Nole will beat Sinner & Carlos btb on the same night before Fritz ever wins a major, or wins a Masters title over someone not on Medicare.
IΓβve been watching tennis since Wimbledon Γβ75 and thatΓβs as dispiriting & disheartening a loss as I remember seeing. A Γβmaybe this might not be for youΓβ type loss. He makes Todd Martin look like Jimmy Connors. Not a lot of grit there.
Being the best American male tennis player since Andy Roddick is like being the best American hard rock band since Van Halen.
Two things on the women. It doesnΓβt seem possible that Osaka couldΓβve won four majors without beating someone ranked in the top five, but SerenaΓβs fourth quarter was pretty volatile.
And I still canΓβt decide if Sabalenka is hawt or nawt.
Sabalenka is so ****ing hot and I will not take anything else as an answer.
Fritz/Djokovic was an amazing match last night. Here's to hoping he can get it done ...
Her elbows are too pointy.
Soon as I saw Fritz’s upside down headband I knew it was over.

Wardrobe malfunction was indicative of how mentally unready he was for that match, and joking about it on X after playing that poorly not a good look imo. Hard to imagine Roddick doing that. IΓβm sure all announcers fluffed his good job/good effort after the match.
Sabs appears to be fully aware of her elbow issues, going to great pains to hide them on her IG.
Felix is a dangerous player right now. I'll be surprised if he makes the final, but not shocked.
Sinner gotta be the least likely looking #1 ITW dominant athlete since Gretzky.
Doubt Felix ever gets better than this year.
Announcers constantly talking about some injury during a match always annoying
Musetti letting Sinner draft like Lance Armstrong.
Edit: Sinner giving him one for fantasy lulz
Musetti must be awfully tempted to pull his hamstring right now.
I thought about Messi, but of course the second you see him just playing around with a ball it clicks instantly. Sinner is the rare sort who looks much bigger up close, he looked very ropy & rangy from the waist up at the oncourt mic, huge hands obviously. But he looked like a typical doofy ACC basketball player coming out of his SUV.
Larry Holmes looked nothing like the Davidian prime Ali or Norton, nor the Hulking Foreman Shavers & Lyle, and he didnβt float like a butterfly either. But he stung like a murder hornet. If you didnβt know and just saw him around dressed casually you might mistake him for a retired farmer or truck driver.
Tennis players are so sadistically overworked by the sport that everyone is just dealing with injuries all the time after about age 27.
7 Best of 5 set matches in 2 weeks is outrageous compared to any other sports expectations.
I would be happy for whoever wins this slam on the women's side, they all have great stories.
Naomi 13-0 in slams post-4R. Not bad.
Anisimova up to 5 in the world, 4 if she beats Osaka.
Sabalenka <3
Selfishly want Anisimova to beat Osaka b/c I think it's a perfect story line with Sabalenka getting her back from Wimbledon. Osaka/Anisimova should be great. Both women playing extremely great.
Also, love how DeBethune is breaking into sports. Min Woo Lee rocks one on the PGA tour.
Osaka +350 to win the Ansi Sabs parlay, would def take that.
Ossie looking she got a Lisfranc problem
Cmon Novak ...
Interested to see how much FAA challenges Sinner.
Do pro tennis players ever do "chops" of the prize pool behind the scenes like in poker tournaments? This year's us open singles winner gets $5M and 2nd place gets $2.5M. For some players that is alot of $.
