I don't think that showed a particular lack of democracy. There were still free and fair elections in the union, AFAIK. Is there something specific you were thinking of that showed an attack on or lack of democracy?

It did present the 'democracy' with the threat of overthrow by a large rebellious armed force, resulting in the highest death toll sustained by the United States in any war, so going on about the Trump administration (which will just come to a normal failuristic end in due time) as if it were the worst thing ever and the end of the world as we know it is a bit hyper-hyper.

I didn't say it was the worst thing the country has suffered through, but I do think it is the worst threat to democracy. I don't think the goal of the Confederacy was ever trying to overthrow the government in Washington, just to removes itself from that government.

I did make the comment at the time that it was probably the best time for Trump to win consecutive elections as we knew he was never going to give it up and it was the least dangerous time to have him as president as with COVID and then dealing with the economic recovery that would basically be his term up
