What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

State park course. 54-51-105 One par, five bogies, three snowmen. Driving seemed improved. Putting was garbage.

Wait .... Context? am I missing something 😃

hey BE, for your home course, wondering what the result would be if you took your best independent result on every hole and filled up a scorecard
are there holes you've never made par?

Ah ok

Really enjoying golf at the moment. Playing decent and more importantly the people I’m playing with are just good fun to be around. My main crowd I play with can give and take a bit of banter and no one is to fragile so it becomes quite fun. After my Achilles injury and playing like crap for about a year it’s quite nice to be in this environment right now.

8th round at this 35/37 6200 yard 70.1/123. (91,82,84,91,88,88,89)

93(44/49)
4/14 fairways, 4/14 greens.
6 pars, 7 bogeys, 2 doubles, 2 triples and a QUAD.
5 1-putts, 3 3-putts. 34 putts.

I ****ing sucked.

grrrr.....this game.......

128 (66/62)

I've been working on my irons on the range. Hitting ok, but not great. I haven't felt like I needed to practice driver much because I've been smoking them on the range. Just hit 5 yesterday as pure as the driven snow.

Fast forward to the course. Sprayed driver everywhere. Lost 8 balls. UGH.

There were a few bright spots. Once I stopped overthinking my irons, they started getting better. Actually got par on three holes on the back nine.
Putted OK, not great. Chipped meh. But, lost balls were the death of me again.

Oh well........

Played with 3 old guys so I hit from the yellow tees today. About 400 yards shorter than the tees I normally hit from.

104(54/50) Lost 4 balls. Took me about 9 holes to find my swing. 3 putted more than usual. Not horrible I guess, but still can't break the elusive 100.

The hole from hell got me once again. I continue my streak of never getting the ball over the creek that runs through the middle. I had a great first shot that set me up perfectly and of course I worm burned the second shot right into the creek. Grrrrr......

Home course 53-53-106 Was hitting more consistent on the back until I notched an 11 on my nemesis hole. A par five with a 50 yard pond in front of the green, so I feel ya b-boat.

Back to the scene of the above crime.

82(40/42)
7/14 fairways, 8/18 greens.
1 birdie, 8 pars, 7 bogeys and 2 doubles.
4 1-putts, 2 3-putts. 34 putts.

Birdie was a par 5 that was a 280 yard drive, 210 yard 4h pin high, missed eagle putt from 25 feet.

Didn't make any putts, but overall a very solid round.

Back on the home course tomorrow.

Charity tournament. Today our team shot a ' 69 with four mulligans and putting strings. Everybody got a sleeve of ZStars.

by TheBigEasy m

Knocked it in from the fringe on 18 for a 0-putt birdie to the delight of the gallery.

considering an identical phrase printed on my next batch of business cards

38 on any side is something to be proud of TBE

as is tremendous slouch receiving a free sleeve of z-stars

Check out this other thread I started LOL.......i shot my lowest 9 hole score ever 31 on a par 34 front 9. Birdied 10 to go -4....Of course finished shooting a 71. I'm a 7 handicap. I wish i still lived in vegas to take on people like negreanu or ivey at golf i'm terrible!

Ps i love Ivey

Bad golfer story:

Every year for decades our family does a golf trip/family reunion in the fall, often scheduling it on Ryder Cup weekends. We call it our family Cup, had it this weekend. We've gone from a 6-man hyper-competitive tournament with all shooting in mid-80s to upper 70's, and has devolved into 3 players (2 dead, 1 injured) ... and not so competitive.

Only one of us even plays anymore. A retired brother playing a lot now who had never won the cup before now dominates. This year he was up 34 shots after two rounds, and over breakfast on Day 3 we mused how low the hackers would have to go to steal the trophy. LOL. 62? 63? It wasn't to be. The hackers hacked, the leader shot his third straight 79, and won the 3 round "tournament" by 56 shots. From a multi-player photo finish every year to a 56 shot win. Be careful, life can do these things to you. 😀 But it's all worth it.

51-54 -105 at En-joie golf course, a former PGA tour stop near Binghamton. Seven bogeys. I felt like I played better on a tougher course, than on my home turf. Greens were very slick

Not to sound ungrateful, but everybody in the tournament got a sleeve of balls.

fella i understand the context of your post, but the way you phrased this made me think you were describing the three remaining players, and was surprised the winner won by only 56

keeping regular golf groups together is a chore that requires constant gentle pressure
people will always come and go but a core of true die hards is important for any sort of longevity

Can’t get 18 in after work so gonna play 12 holes 3x over the next 3 days for 36.

+8 thru 12.
3/10 fairways, 4/12 greens.
6 pars, 4 bogeys and 2 doubles.
2 1-putts, 1 3-putt. 23 putts.

Shanked 2 chips terribly, both 3rd shots on par5s from just off the green (after nice 2nd shots) that turned 2 prime birdie spots into scrambles for par.

Went off the back today and would have gotten 18 in had I not run into 2 groups. Quit after 15.
39/28 (+3/+3)
6/12 fairways, 5/15 greens.
1 birdie, 8 pars, 5 bogeys and a double.
5 1-putts. 25 putts. (15 putts thru first 9, then10 putts thru 6)

Had my first "almost" hole-in-one. Hit the pin on a 175 yard Par3 and landed 2 inches away.

The good, the bad, and the ugly today.

I'll start with the ugly - two disaster holes (11,10). One of those was a wide open par 5 where you can't get into any sort of trouble.

The bad - lost 2 balls (only 1 drive went astray, though)

the good - par on hole 1, birdie on hole 18

111 (58/53)

Not my best putting today.

I was, however, able to get it over the dreaded creek today. However, that too was ugly. Topped my second shot and the ball ended up about 4' short of the creek. But got it over on the third shot. I guess that's kind of a win.

Not sure what it's going to take to get me over the hump. I had a lot of really good shots today. But just can't seem to be consistent.

Years and years of playing and practicing. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts. Enjoy the grind and appreciate the incremental improvements. Otherwise it'll quit being fun.

Thanks. I just keep thinking it shouldn't be this hard. The damn ball doesn't even move when you try to hit it. [emoji2957]

When you get 3-5 years into the process and look back at how much you have improved it will be staggering. The beauty is in the grind.

I was a ~15 capper for probably 6-8 years, started taking proper lessons and have a coach now for 3 offseasons, entering 4. Got to a new low of 6.1 this year, and while there's ups and downs in the middle I am without a doubt playing my best golf ever and still improving.

Shot 77 Monday during competition and horrible conditions (rain, heavy wind). Probably my best round overall in terms of "complete game" all year, and fittingly, dropped my handicap to 7.0, the lowest I can remember (I'm pretty sure I was a 6.5 or thereabouts in high school; can't remember exact number). There were only two full swing shots I hit that were "bad." No birdies though. Four of the bogeys were three putts, I had a hell of a time with green speed. Fifth was an unfortunate bunker shot.

Actually going to try to practice this winter; already sent a message to my pro asking to schedule a lesson to develop a practice routine. The last three years have been exactly the same with my handicap: when handicaps lock I'm at my 12-month low, play like crap and hit double digits in June, then grind back to a new low. It would be nice to be able to play close to my handicap come spring.

I play a 9-hole par 3 a couple times a week. Great practice for my short game. It is right next to my home course and it's a nice little course. Google says it is 1,311 yards. There are a couple challenging holes and there is water everywhere so you get punished for not hitting it straight.

I don't log my scores on it here because I don't want to clog up the thread. But, today, I shot my all time best (34). A horrible tee shot on the last hole led to a double bogey but it's still a new record for me.

I took a lesson at one of those places where you hit into a screen and it logs all sorts of stuff. The guy told me something that finally clicked with my lack of hip rotation and too much dependence on my arms. Anyways, I'm definitely hitting the ball more consistently (at least today). Fingers crossed that I made a little breakthrough on my swing.

assuming this was all played on the same course, i'm curious your total using your best score on each hole, as well as your worse?
and congrats on hitting the stick. still chasing that elusive first ace, although i've sunk at least a dozen shots from between 125-185, one of those from the forward tee box for a birdie after topping my tee shot

love the solid thunk of quality deadpan

exhibit a in exactly the way this game keeps sucking us all back in

lunch at the turn is littered with sixteen layers of sandy cat box excrement served sandwiched between two slices of overtoasted heels plated alongside wedge salad shanks drizzled with ample chili dip

but any sort of racy solid last hole shot execution in front of the entire clubhouse is guaranteed to be interpreted as ether gas lighting or being brought back next week to get permanantly banned for life

find an excuse to laugh on every hole you play, inspired by either success or failure
with a non-results oriented poker state of mind

curious who you typically play with bb?
any opportunity alongside lower handicaps to see their attempts to solve the same puzzles as you?
no doubt multiple rounds with better players helped me shave a few strokes in the long run

58 - 57 - 115 Five bogies and six snowmen. Links course an hour away. Maybe my worst round of the year, but not unexpected.
They finally have a ball named after my game...
