Curry won 67-73 games from 15-17' by playing 79-80 games each year.

Ditto the 96' Bulls, and all the most winningest teams in history.

So you're just making stuff up

you always say regular season means nothing to trash the players you hate.
now you use it to praise players you like ?

double standard FG as usual.

by Carnivore m

Jordan loved the game so much that he retired 3 times by the time he was LeBron's current age. Almost 6 full seasons of not playing. You'd think if you loved basketball so much you might want to play.

trashing a payer for its good deeds towards his fellow players is not great either.
why you blast MJ for it ?
he gave the opportunity for others to taste what its like to win a ring....😀

by fallguy m

It clearly is, since all the best teams did that.

basically, you're making stuff up to fit your narrative, and it falls apart upon a shred of scrutiny.

My narrative?

Okay, why do you think people are playing less games? For fun? Or because it helps in winning? Legitimately want to know why you think so.

Because it it's not winning then the owners would be pissed. They lose money when players aren't out there selling tickets.

Can't believe the coaches/training staff have all 30 teams tricked.

Conspiracy stuff.

On that note, it was raised before... Why didn't MJ play 48 mins a night like Wilt? Was MJ weak? Or did the coaches work out that players perform better when they didn't play every minute?

Players are less fit now due to junk food and the decline of science (nutrition, medical, fitness, analytics).

If people were still smoking cigarettes etc then they'd all be playing 48 x 82 mins a season.

He cited one era where guys played more minutes (50/60's), otherwise the standard has always been 37-43 MPG for the top guys in the 70's through 2010 or so.. Then the "weak" era began of colluding, flopping, whining, no practice, load management, and guys hating their job because it changed from basketball to 3ball

When guys sit out, the team has a much lower chance of winning the game or having a great regular season record, or developing the best chemistry that will be needed to win in the playoffs

.
Margin of loss to the Spurs in the 14' Playoffs

Mavs........... 2.0 ppg.... 2.0 ortg
OKC.......... 10.5 ppg... 11.1 ortg
Blazers..... 13.2 ppg... 13.8 ortg
Heat......... 14.0 ppg... 15.8 ortg

^^^ Record loss with the preseason favorite, 3 all-stars, nearly even odds heading into the series, and no one on the Spurs in their prime

The Mavs or OKC would beat the Heat easily, so the Heat were equivalent to a 1st Round team out West... Meanwhile, the East was diluted by putting the top 3 players on 1 team (the "decision").

37 year-old Duncan had the same "old man" excuses to lose that Lebron had for the last 5 years, while Lebron/Wade were coming off great efficiency and tag team effort against the #1 defense Pacers - they actually said they were mad at the Spurs and anxious to take them out again - this was after Duncan said "we'll get em' this time" after winning the WCF.

Overall, "bron-ball" lost 3 times with 2 all-star teammates

Your brain is broken.

Hang on isn't Lebron's career efg% like 55%? That is a bad shooter these days?

Not like he is playing C

by fidstar-poker m

Your brain is broken.

There comes a point where you're proven wrong so thoroughly, that I just move on to another topic regarding Lebron's overratedness - that's how the thread has been maintained - i.e. moving on to other aspects of Lebron's failed career and legacy of underachieving expectation

But I'm willing to revisit any topic if you think there's something that was missed - but I think we've shown that today's game is a joke.. In addition to the softness, we didn't even mention how the league is worse because its biggest component - Americans - have fallen off a cliff.... Ant and Ja are the best Americans now, which doesn't compare to MJ, Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, Barkley, etc... So in addition to the format and players being weaker today, the players worse too

Imagine thinking that more people playing the game makes the standard worse

by TheGramuel m

LeDrive's shots are mostly at the rim

This helps his efg but kills ball movement, elite chemistry and high team ceilings/Finals records - Lebron produces teams that have a lottery record against Finals teams (22-33)..

Otoh, most of Curry or MJ's shots were jumpers, which helps ball movement, chemistry and team ceilings/Finals records

by TheGramuel m

Imagine thinking that more people playing the game makes the standard worse

The biggest component is worse though - Americans - we're worse at basketball than we used to be

Since this biggest component of the NBA is much worse than prior eras, the entire NBA is worse overall

If you make a list of today's top players, previous eras easily tops it... Today's players suck and are micro versions or worse versions of previous players

by fallguy m

The biggest component is worse though - Americans - we're worse at basketball than we used to be

Absolutely not lol. Americans are much better now than they were the standard is just higher and there's more competition.

WHY AM I DOING THIS

by TheGramuel m

Absolutely not lol. Americans are much better now than they were the standard is just higher and there's more competition.

The best American today is Ant, and he's worse than KJ by every metric available

So American basketball has fallen from MJ to KJ

That's a good way to look at it with a bird's eye view

Ok chief

Ok chief

Where would Ant rank among American players in the 90's.. Pick any year

He struggles to break the top 10, which is an indictment on today's American basketball

by fallguy m

If Ant of today was dropped into the 90s with the 90s players only having the same ability and science and history they had then? He would be in MVP conversation every year.

by TheGramuel m

If Ant of today was dropped into the 90s with the 90s players only having the same ability and science and history they had then? He would be in MVP conversation every year.

In a game of constant traffic and few threes, height is king, so a shrimp like Ant wouldn't be talked about with the best players back then. The 80's and 90's format doesn't play well for 6'4" guys.. Ant wouldn't be considered as valuable as Alonzo (2nd for MVP), let alone Jordan (5x).. Someone like Dominique (2nd for MVP) would be considered always better than him, and Hakeem/Robinson/Barkley/Malone are even further above Ant.. Magic and Bird are also tall MVP candidates that Ant can't compete with.

The average height was 1-2 inches taller back then, so 6'4" guys were considered small guys and mismatches for the many 6'7" shooting guards like Dale Ellis, Reggie Lewis, Majerle, Miller and Drexler, or the standard 6'6" SG like MJ.. These guys were elite post up players, especially compared to today's players, so Ant would be in foul trouble all the time and probably relegated to defending the PG's when possible.

It's very telling that Ant can't get 30 ppg in today's hands-off, open paint format designed for "small-ball", aka smaller dudes... His 26 ppg would be much less in a tougher, unspaced and physical format that requires bigger guys to truly dominate.

Ok chief

by TheGramuel m

Ok chief

All the MVP's in the 80's and 90's were big guys

Because size is king in an unspaced format (2-pointer basketball)

Again, it's telling that Ant can't get 30 ppg in today's hands-off, open paint format designed for "small-ball", aka smaller dudes... His 26 ppg would be much less in a tougher, unspaced and physical format that requires bigger guys to truly dominate.

1990:

MJ
Magic
Bird
Hakeem
Barkley
Malone
Robinson
Ewing
Dominique
Drexler
Stockton
Isiah

^^^ Ant in 1990 - not top 12, and not a top 11 American

I'd take Mullin over him too, or Miller, Chambers, McHale, others

Ant is a dribble-happy, simpleton downhill player - he has no idea how to play

Ok chief keep doing what you're doing

Ant is basically the same height as Barkley.
