how do you and your wife feel right now?

would anyone be kind enough to share their best advice on coping with grief in a healthy way?

The world lost a remarkable man yesterday. I hope it’s okay to share this here — I just wanted to leave a bit of his legacy for anyone who might come across it. I wasn’t close to him but fortunate to know and play with him since I was a kid, and he made a lasting impact on me

Please carry on, no need to express condolences — I just wanted to leave this here. Heartbreaking.

Like everyone else who came across him, I was a fan of Danya's.

I'm pretty upset too.

I plan to kill myself on Dec 30th, the same day my dad died last year.

My life has become competely joyless and it has become clear to me that there is zero justice in the world. I would rather go back to the void before I was born than continue like this.

It kind of sucks. I feel like I've done a lot of things right in my life, treated people well, had a lot of cool experiences, and overall lived a good life. However the last few years, and especially this year have really taken a toll on me and I am suffering every single day.

It was cool knowing some of ya'll but I'm probably checking out permanently soon. I have fought this feeling over a long time and I've finally reached a point where I give up and accept that not everyone has a happy ending.

Grief is a weird thing. Tomorrow will be 2 years since I saw my best friend for the last time. He died 4 months later at age 48 leaving his wife and 2 kids behind. There will be scotch tomorrow night. Maybe a lot of it.

It will hit you in weird ways at weird times. But my wife described it to me like this:

There's a button and a ball inside a box. Every time the ball hits the button, it hurts and you're dealing with your grief. At first, the ball and the button almost completely fill the box, so it triggers all the time. Over time, the box gets a bit bigger and bigger so that every time the ball moves it doesn't always hit the button, but it will sometimes. Eventually the box gets big enough that the ball only hits on rare or special occasions.

It doesn't "get better" over time... it just kind of evolves. But don't let anyone tell you it gets better (that's a shitty platitude, IMO). I'd give my left arm to have one more sit down with him where we tell the same 15 stories we'd been telling each other for 30 years and drink scotch for 10 hours straight until our wives had to intervene and take us home.

Everyone's journey is unique - there's no formula, no pre-flop chart here. You have to roll with what comes your way. One hour at a time, one day at a time, one week at a time.

I take some solace in my insanely brilliant wife, who knows when I am struggling with something, and she doesn't know how to advise me, she'll look at me and ask "What would he tell you to do/say?" Always good advice.

SABR, please talk to someone. Don't make a permanent and irrevocable response to what I promise is a temporary problem. Call 988, make an appointment with a mental health professional, call a friend, heck call me.

I've done enough talking. This isn't a cry for help. It's more of a "see you guys, it's been fun."

I have 2 months left and I will do my best to work hard and try to enjoy the time I have left.

Will I feel differently in 2 months? I really hope so, but I doubt it. Some people run good at life and I've accepted that it isn't me.

I get it, but if it's been fun, it can be fun again. Please don't do something like this without getting good professional help. I'm no professional, but I care. Someone who is both should be able to do a lot to help.

Don't get me wrong this is not an easy decision, this has been brewing for a long time. I'm sure many people will be sad and miss me, but at the same time I don't think I owe it to anyone to live in suffering for their sake.

I'd be certain your father wouldn't want you to do that.

I know this isn’t for me but I just wanted to make sure these messages were acknowledged and say how grateful I am for this!

I hope others found this as insightful as I did 😀

thanks for sharing
