Suitedjustice's Ongoing Mid-life Crisis
I woke up in the middle of choking to death again; though to be accurate, it was towards the end of the process--woke up
Sounds like slots are tough up there, I have a handful of comped nights only at mgms and Detroit, so was thinking about coming up there to check it out, and maybe go to the Basketball HOF. Might still go this year, Detroit is solid but a hassle to get there.
Thanks guys!
I have enough funds online for microstakes, but microstakes yield micro results short of fading a huge field in one of their multi-day events.
I’m sure they’re already aware of your willingness to help out but remind the bosses at the old office that if they want an extra day or two off for travel this month, you’re there to pick up the shifts. Club W PT gold is softer than infant poo but it’s also super swingy in the cash games. But they do have a couple of high value super cheap tournaments i
I tried to get on Club WPT Gold when all the influencers were offering sign-up deals, but my phone balked at giving them my location, thanks to my privacy settings, and by the time I changed it over, the setup was glitched and I couldn't get back in.
I mean, for live poker, you have to have big reserves anyway, not the kind of money anywhere in the neighborhood of paying rent. And you have to be a big winner in the game, like not a 10bb/100 winner, a 10bb/hour winner. If you're not then it's just too swingy to make a living, you can do the math, with those few hands played it's very easy to get on a monster multimonth downs
Solid breakdown. Having the slots to supplement was a help, but I was lazy and didn't do either, and my funds dwindled down. Entirely my fault. I did the same thing in Las Vegas, so I haven't learned a damn thing.

MGM Springfield is watched pretty much 24/7 by a syndicate of Chinese players—at least I believe they're speaking Mandarin—I had some leeway with the VP machines, but other grinders have since moved in and made them unprofitable as well.
The nearest casino to me after MGM is 90 minutes away, and I have a 20-year old Jeep that's not going to last those trips for long.
I'm getting off my ass and heading to the casino now. I'll post an update later
Cliffs on the entire thread...
I think he might be there in the cycle:
1) Unnecessary founds to play. <=== We are here
2) Going back to a full time "standard" job.
3) Building a money cushion.
4) Getting bored of the "standard" job.
5) Going back to poker and AP "freedom".
Mostly. There's some art and some enjoyment of same and some philosophy and some life and some friends and some revelations.
+$20, so I did little more than cover my mileage. I had to turn down a Hexbreak3r slot play because while being +EV, it was far enough away from a jackpot pay that I could lose my entire roll trying to get it; also one of the syndicate players was playing on the opposite bank, so if I had gone busto with the knowledge that he'd be swooping in after I'd sweetened the machine, that would have been going out like a chump.
Back at it again tomorrow.
+$100 and change. I'm going to try to take a nap and head out again for a wee hour run.
Unrelated to this is my very modest exercise program, which has left me stiff and sore in varying degrees nearly every day for the last 8 months. Getting old is not for the faint of heart, but over the last month I've been tanking it better; it's still present, but it doesn't bother me as much. Small, judicious doses of aspirin helps.
Lost $20 back on the night shift, mostly due to my $30 video poker misclick. I never accidentally hit the max bet button on 5c screens, only on $1 ones.
One of these days I'm going to misclick and get dealt a royal, but yesterday was not that day.
Back again today.

Make sure your misclick dealt royal happens on the $5 denomination at Mohegan Sun!

That's what I'm talking about!
I was down there a few years ago and found a $125 play on that very machine for $5, 5 credits each on 5 hands. I think I lost around $40.
IIRC that machine does have a 10 hand version, so if you play the full 10 credits, you can risk $500 on one button press.
I won $90 last night over a swingy session. When I'm this low on funds, the variance is a killer.
Was that your win Dan GK?
No, sadly not. Mohegan Sun just posted that on instagram the other day and I thought about our exchange earlier ITT.
I have been emboldened to check the high limit machines a few times recently and I’ve won $200 or so, but still in search of my first ever hand pay.

GLGL. It's all about reps. Keep getting them in.
Small profit late last night. One of my rivals/colleagues was also present, so pickings were slimmer. At one point I did find a Golden Egypt slot play for $18.75 per spin.
Now, Golden Egypt isn't a high variance machine, but $18.75/spin is a big risk for a small BR, so I tried to find my fellow grinder to offer him a half share on the play, and thus knock down the variance, but he had ghosted out of there by then; the one time that I would have been happy to see him.
I tried to check on it again this afternoon, to see if the play was still there, but someone was on the machine for my entire 3 hour run.
3+ hours on the Egypt machine is WILD. Talk about dedication to the game
Maybe you should do 4-figure spins! 😀
Late last night, I had competition for the vp machines. I found myself chatting with the guy after he asked me "You here to pick up the crumbs too?" To which I was obliged to nod along.
Everyone is faster than me at checking the X video poker machines. I cannot pick up the knack, no matter how carefully I watch my opponents; however, I did see that my rival was only checking the X vp on machines that also had +EV slots on them, so while we were sitting next to each other, I stopped checking the slots on those units until he moved on, and then I circled back to his former machines and checked the slots on them, and I was rewarded with a $350 slot win that he'd passed over.
Tree fitty!
That particular machine has 100+ choices of slots, vp, blackjack and roulette games. Dude who was hovering over it for 3 hours was dedicated to losing hundreds of dollars to swill "free" light beer from the bar.
A few bad rounds on cleopatra keno is enough to make me want to punt the bartop into the dance dealer pit
That number does come up a lot. If the RNG gods are listening, I could really use a win of about three fifty, plus a few zeros tacked on the end.

I've never been a big keno guy. A lot of good people like it, and I understand that it's fun, but I only understand fun in -EV games in the same way that a sociopath understands empathy: I get the theory, and I see it in other people, but I just can't feel it outside of a few special circumstances.

I used to hang with a good friend from childhood who was bartending out here for years and I’d play along with him hoping to hit one of his 2k-4k scores. Alas it was a money dump lol
How's it goin', S?

I've made it another dry month; this December will be the final month, then the dry challenge will be complete.
Next year I'm going to try a seasonal drinking scheme: wet in the winter and summer; dry in the spring and fall—cycles of decay and renewal. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to quit for good. I know that more than a few of my kind readers take a dim view of this scheme, and that your criticism comes from a place of care. Thank you for that.
On the financial front, I was able to secure a small loan from a family member in order to keep the wolves from the door. This loan is the first and the last of its kind. There will be no more wells to dip into after this, all other means being exhausted. Check off another box on the problem gambling assessment list.
I will start playing poker again on the 5th, when the check is due to clear.
Any new album reviews in the works?
