Ownership of planetary chemistry. ROFLLMAO!!!!!

A computer is real. It replaced the need for much paper and handwriting. It makes mass distribution of information much easier.

It is a primary vehicle for human communication. It is a wonderful storage device. It has great capacity for calculations.

What did Bitcoin do for the world ?

Is there any price bitcoin can achieve that would change your mind about bitcoin being legit ?

500k
1 million
5 millions
?

I’m guessing no, since at any price BTC will still be destroying the planet he believes can exist without human destruction.

And also no, because even though the global market values it at $90,000 it serves no purpose.

Of course it serves a purpose - criminals use it to mask their operations, foreign powers probably use it to buy politicians, etc etc.

Surely that can't be NN's argument?

I’m pretty sure criminals still to this day use more cash , offshore account, commodities and many other fiat currencies around the world than Bitcoin .

Maybe in a medium future it will be the opposite but hey , probably Bitcoin will be worth 0 by then !
So we are safe from criminals , they will end with Bitcoin !

I bet detectives will never be able to find the illegal activity on the public ledger.

Turn off the electricity and my computer becomes worthless as well, but while the electricity is still going I will continue to find value in my computer.

I'm ready to buy more Bitcoin once it gets to $46,500. Not sure if it'll get that low, but if not, that's okay.

no shot it ever gets that low again, if it does that means hte world market is in a legit capitulation moment

No. I'm convinced that it's a fad and that it will be banned within a decade or two. It's possible the encryption will be hacked prior to that.

People who live in the digital bubble are obviously ignorant of Earth system phenomena such as the possibility of stopping the overturning Atlantic circulation this century. That current hasn't stopped for 13,000 years !! That current moves heat from the tropics to the cold northern latitudes, especially N Europe and Scandinavia. What happens when you turn off the heat .... people are going to freeze. You transfer the burden of moving heat from the ocean to the atmosphere and get super powerful storms.

Such a stoppage would be a civilization crippling event. It could mean a massive shrinkage in carrying capacity for humans ...... a massive involuntary population reduction.

Bitcoin is nothing next to those consequences. It's just a fad which is extremely energy intensive and that means fossil fuels are being combusted to make it possible. Bitcoin is going to be such a low priority in the future scheme of things that it won't be able to justify its existence.

We will then be able to create heat by creating bitcoin! Win Win!

I love how nut nut keeps posting civilization collapsing doomsday scenarios. And he’s like, BTC won’t matter then! No ****. Dollars, Euros, Pounds, Francs, etc. won’t matter in those events either.

in fairness i remember there used to be a strong contigent of "you want bitcoin because the dollar won't exist after we ww3 when we live like mad max" - no buddy, your bitcoin is also worthless in that scenario - even if it weren't you surely don't want to root for that to happen

I sure hope nut nut doesn’t have a manicured lawn. They are absolutely terrible for climate change.

So you belief more your feelings then what the market telling you .
It’s fine .

Nut Nut is actually a shill for proof of stake networks. Go hang in the altcoin threads.

I suppose it all depends upon which market indicators we follow.

The cost of property insurance is skyrocketing in the US as a result of the combination of increasing losses and inflation in rebuilding costs. Wildfires, flooding and wind related storm damage are all on the rise.

The cost of coffee is increasing partly due to drought in coffee growing regions.

The market for bitcoin is quite small. Only about 1% of the world's population owns any. The market for housing and coffee is much bigger.

Wonder what happens to price if 2% owns any

I wonder if there are any charts that show the cost of housing over the last 5 years in terms of bitcoin. Hmmmmm

Giving less weight on tiny markets is a fair way to see things .

Hence the reason I ask you if there a price of bitcoin that would make you change your mind and you said no …..

I promise you , a bitcoin at 5 millions would not be a small market anymore.
So doesnt seem you are respecting your premise.

U just trust the markets value you want as being a representation of truth , disregarding others you don’t like based on feelings not facts .

Ps: gold owners aren’t that high either but many people would trust gold, regardless owning it or not .

Facts
The cost of homeowners insurance.
The cost of coffee.
The acreage lost to wildfires.
Rainfall records
Sea levels
Plastic accumulation in the brain and correlation with dementia
Snowpack in the Colorado River system and water levels at Lake Mead & Powell
Species extinction rates
Ocean pH
Bitcoins carbon footprint

Feelings
The expectation that bitcoin will be valuable in the future.

Bitcoin is just an example of late stage capitalism. An ideology which awards lordship to people who are ruthless enough to adhere to a system which assigns no cost to the participants for the polluting aspects of their relationship. I buy a plastic bottle of Coke and the plastic waste settles in the brains and balls of humans and other animals. Neither the buyer nor the seller are given any personal reason to care about such a system .... a system which is transparently designed to fail in spectacular fashion.

Bitcoin is just a textbook example of a much bigger problem. An ideology which is 100% me and 0% we.

I think it's the complete opposite.

100% we and 0% me.

100% me is every government currency.

You're welcome to make the case for why the world with bitcoin is better for the climate than the world without bitcoin.

by housenuts

100% me is every government currency.

I'm not here making a defense of national currency.

I understand the benefit of currency from a historical perspective. It has provided a mechanism of positive reinforcement that rewards people for giving others what they want.

The problems arises when people are trained to want something which is unhealthy. Cocaine, meth and opiate dealers make lots of money. Casino operators make a lot of money selling the rush of potential riches as do junk food manufacturers and fast food outlets. Bitcoin most parallels what a casino operator offers ..... a chance to gamble on something for riches. The casino operators are the tech companies which supply the devices used in the gambling operation.

The biggest addiction is to cortisol rushes. A feature in our biology which releases a hormone when we have a fight or flight response to external stimuli. We are programmed to be paranoid about threats to our survival. And the biggest threat to humans has always been other humans. So we have an addiction to always belong to the strongest tribe and give the government a green light to invest in ever greater military power to protect us from perceived tribal adversaries. We buy guns to give us an illusion of ability to defend ourselves against a hostile government which can now cut us down with drones like a knife carving a cake. We are living amidst a spiral of fear.

Look at us ..... we in the US have become a nation of obese people. National life expectancy has peaked and is beginning to decline. Testosterone levels in young men have shrunk dramatically in recent decades while plastic infiltration is climbing quickly, doubling in just an eight year period.

We can not eliminate the power of positive reinforcement. That's always going to be with us as long as our species exists. But we need a new carrot. That carrot has to be congruent with survival of the species going forward.

Currency is not the problem. A system which caters to our addictions is the problem. We're fear addicts. Sugar addicts, Salt addicts. Gambling addicts. Status addicts. Ego addicts.

The Old Testament has an instructive example of what we're now experiencing. The worship of the Golden Calf.
