RIP The Judge, Robin Smith.
Cracking batsman with an incredible throw from the deep.
Great memories of him breaking into the England side and being the long term replacement for Lamb.
I bowled at him a few times at Guildford CC before play started in the Surrey v Hampshire county game.
Arguably the best square cutter of the late 80s/early 90s
Not while Greenidge was still playing.
Greenidge retired in 91 and had been on the decline.
Smith, RIP, was a memorably great player of fast bowling but Greenidge scored two test double hundreds from 1987 on when apparently he was in decline.
Interesting you pick 87, a year before Smith made his debut.
Anyway, I’ll take the opinions of his peers over anyone else.
Ha, well it wasn't me who stipulated the late 80s. He had a Test ~150 in 1990 and a Test double hundred in 1991.
I was lucky enough to watch him bat at his peak a few times.

As was I. 84 in England was epic. People forget how good Lamb was in that series
Saw Smith countless times.
My use of the word 'arguably' was intentional.
Over/under on 3 days?
Edit - ah, 84 = Greenidge
I saw him get 80 odd before lunch in a championship game in Southampton at around that time including hitting a 6 that hit the block of flats across the road from the ground
ha - isn't the internet a wonderful thing!
I am going to bed. What a terrible start.
In for some very early lol England
Total unwillingness to move the feet
Only Duckett got out to a good ball. Outside of Starc, the other bowlers have been ordinary but England arenβt good enough to be ruthless
Root is an ok batsman. Still hasnt scored a test century in Mongolia though so he cant be great yet.
England looking pretty good - also Starc can't keep shouldering this attack so if England can square the series look out
very important partnership by England last night. the Aus commentary team (on Fox - so Waugh, Warner) were rofling at England for not declaring 9 down and giving themselves half an hour to bowl under the lights.
I agreed (albeit it's VERY hard to listen to David Warner and not combust) but it's turned out very well - results oriented obvs but those 60 runs could end up being super important
the over rate was horrific all day and I hope Smith/Aus get punished for it. 73 overs in 6.5 hours is worse than the 76 and 80 windies were doing with Holding and Croft off their long run ups
Over-rate was diabolical and Smith should be fined but I still think we should play on until the overs are done like it is a tennis grand slam 5 set match with how big this series is - I mean it is easily the biggest test series in cricket and as long as light permits it and the over-rate isn't horrendous just keep going. It is a test match after all - England fans will be happy as they see more cricket

I totally agree. It should be both a big fine and also βplay onβ
Pitch is gonna be an absolute tomorrow afternoon hope root and archer can add another 50 rounds going to punish Smith for his lame ass captaincy. Aussie commentators feel like theyβre pretty wanting, trying to criticize England for not declaring . Your side is clearly behind the game.
