Geez wj, does a normal dinner at outback seem so bland to you now?

by Javanewt m

$114 for 6 oz. of wine seems insane, but it's always fun to taste wines you normally wouldn't get a chance to. (I love wine shops that have the sealed bottles and let you buy samples with a card.)

$57 seems a lot better, still expensive at $80 with tip but those wines are $180-320 a bottle at retail store price, so they’re pretty much selling at cost with the discount. They were all really great and I could tell the different between these and something that would be under $100 a bottle.

If it’s not at least a prime grade steak I’d rather get something that isn’t steak. Outback doesn’t do prime (except the strip location) so I haven’t eaten there in years.

Since there are approximately a billion pics/videos on all the social media platforms already, I'll simply say that my wife and I had omakase at Kame last Sunday, and were very happy with the meal. I personally don't think this is something you should do even monthly or anything like that, but the dishes were great, the service was impeccable and we left feeling pleasantly full without being overstuffed.

My one complaint: I fully acknowledge and expect both the restaurant tax and the Vegas tax, but unless I misread the label, it looked to me like the half-bottle of Dassai sake was marked up about 4-5x? That's crazy, but it's also on me for not doing a quick search when I was reading the beverage list.

Otherwise, a great night and a great meal

Not sure if you have tried it yet but if not then try the sake pairing at Kabuto next time. We were there with a friend, had the large omakase menu + 2x sake pairing + a couple of extra items and we paid $500 total, so worth it.

2nd this

The markups I've seen on wine/sake have been insane. A $25 bottle retail going for $75 - $100. Gross. I know they have to make money, but it's getting ridiculous. Some of the restaurants off the strip still have decent corkage fees. I always ask. (Mon Ami Gabi used to be $20, which was fabulous, but alas, no more.)

We have had omakase at Kabuto minus the sake pairing several years ago. Also a great meal and more accessible for sure πŸ˜†

Add another vote for the sake pairing at Kabuto. I think I posted my visit from earlier this year in this thread. Unless you're truly neutral on sake or hate it, I'd suggest trying it.

First time at Harlo, food was great.

Bread - 9.5/10
NY strip with peppercorn crust - 9.5/10, great crust. $77 I think
Skirt steak - 8/10. Solid but not as good as Boa’s or Bavette’s for the same price. $58
Fries - 8/10
Crab fried rice - 8.5/10, $18
Creme brulee - 8.5/10, forgot price probably $15 or so

I'm looking for a restaurant for a celebration lunch. Many places I've looked at are only open for dinner. Got any suggestions?

wj, for the sake of calibration what restaurant anywhere in vegas is a place you would give 5/10 average across the board

5/10 is pretty awful, I just avoid them altogether. Can’t think of a legit fine dining place I’d give a 5/10. Plenty of casual spots that kind of suck though. A chain spot like Smashburger would be a 5/10 for me

so another way of saying your scores could easily be on a 1 to 5 scale assuming auto exclusion for over half the eating places in vegas

I just rate according to my taste buds not in comparison to any other specific place. I’ve given some low scores for certain dishes. Think I gave the pumpernickel bread at Cut a 2/10 since it sucked, especially in comparison to the other stuff in the bread basket. Most of the stuff I get has been perfectly researched on Yelp for optimal ordering so it rarely disappoints.

Bouchon?

Bouchon?

Booked! Planning to go Friday morning.
Thanks. 🙌🏾

Robuchon on the dessert cart, but obv that ain’t cheap.

Bouchon if they still have it.

LPM was great.

Loved the green tea matcha creme brulee at 8 East but that’s not fine dining.

Made a couple deviations as I had a large food comp (MGM gave me a food comp more than 2x my FP which was weird). Also, I'm off alcohol for a while at least so I had to spend bigger than usual on food.

L'Atelier de JR. I never got the tasting menu before. It's usually a bit too much seafood, and a bit pricey. But the stars aligned. With no wine, the $225 menu still had 3 sea food items, but 2 of them were fish. I like fish. I'm just not into shell fish and mollusks enough to spend big.

Anyway, everything was good to great. Chestnut soup, warm and homey fall dish. Hamachi with citrus and caviar. This was very good and probably the most memorable. It was citrus heavy and the saltiness of the caviar made it like a stoner dish, with strong and contrasting flavors. Sort of like limon potato chips or peanuts if you've ever had those. The other fish (cod I think) was more French, with rich and more subtly complex flavors. The better of the 2 desserts was an ice cream sitting atop a crumble of various, delicious ingredients.

Glad I did it, but I doubt I ever will again, particularly because their steak tartare is my favorite and so I'll probably always get that with some entre and some dessert.

I went to Bavette's, where I have always gotten either the french dip or the steak frites. I got a regular steak and it was excellent, but I'll also never do that again. Unless you are a very big eater (I weigh over 200 pounds) the steak frites (or subbed with another side) and maybe a salad or appetizer are going to fill you up. I think they are just as good, or 97% as good and you save like $40. Their French dip is also fantastic and a huge amount of food. I wound up taking home some steak, mashed potatoes and obligatory slice of the world's best lemon meringue pie.

We need some Gymkhana reviews in here. Reservations booked for over a month but I’m going to try to get a seat at the bar and see what’s up soon. Looks incredible

Very curious about this! I have a 3 week trip lined up for March and can’t wait to try new places especially at Aria.

Gymkhana lived up to the hype, food was incredible. Really nice high end interior too.

Delhi dalgona cocktail - 11/10 one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Like a reverse espresso martini with espresso foam on top

Pina col-lassi cocktail - 9/10

Aloo chaat - 9/10
Fried chicken app - 9/10
Chicken tikka - 11/10 must get
Paneer tikka - 7.5/10
Prawns - 9.5/10
Beef pepper fry - 8/10
Aloo jeera - 9/10
Yellow dal - 9/10
Bread basket - 9/10 really good but nothing majorly different than other Indian spots
Desserts - 8/10

Thanks for the review, place and food looks insane. Can’t wait to try it out in March!

LOL, "bread basket" was the only thing I recognized.
