President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
It doesn't matter who Denmark can fight off. Greenland is Nato. China or Russia isn't taking over Greenland. It would bring in the US. I mean, Russia might if they decide to go full **** it mode but China is not.
Trump will probably use it as a bargaining chip - you let me occupy it and take the resources and you retain ownership and then I'll defend it
This whole greenlandÂ’s threats is completelety surreal. Remember people here saying he ́s trolling ?Then you have rubio saying that when Trump says something, he means it. Miller and wifey doubling in, etc...If that were to happen, the only thing to reverse/oppose it would have to come from the inside. I canÂ’t see other countries going the military route to prevent it
The US, as a result of the Trump administration, has already been aligning w/ new allies. Honestly, what do you think has been going on?
As far as Greenland, someone else already pointed out it's a NATO partner. Invading it would for sure force the EU and other countries into realignment, which is exactly what Putin is looking to do / hoping for. Trump has been crossing off a lot of Putin's wish list... by coincidence, of course.

Amusingly, US arctic readiness is in the dumpster because American conservatives spent the last three decades aggressively refusing to believe in climate change, thus they also ignored national security recommendations based on the coming geographical changes to the region (many of which are now reality).
I guess pinning the blame on "not having Greenland" is a nifty excuse, and the idiot in the White House listened.
Trump is sort of right - it would be much better in their hands than Denmark for the sake of the EU as there is no way that Denmark are preventing an incursion from Russia or China.
I believe would better for the US as a whole to be under the Danish Crown than for it to be under Trump. That said, it would certainly be interesting to become an enemy of the US overnight.
This aside, the US already has a military base on Greenland. The lack of readiness has nothing to do with territorial ownership, but is simply down to lack of priority and military presence has been reduced to an absolute minimum. Thus suitable funding, ships, aircraft, troops and training (at scale) have not been provided for a long time.
A fine example of the American zealous ignorance that has kept your nation largely unprepared for the reality of today's Arctic climate and geography.
I suspect a lot of people are also missing some very obvious facts and what they mean. The arctic and surrounding waters is a very large and very desolate area. The distances to large scale human infrastructure capable of directly supporting operations (be it civilian or military ones) are enormous, the climate (even if warming and the waters opening up) is harsh, ice makes many vessels incapable of operating anything other than seasonally, operations there puts enormous strain on logistics. Supporting large scale operations requires specialized vessels and specialized training.
I've spent a decent amount of time north of the 81st parallel and know very well what it takes to operate there.
For comparison, Russia, a strategic gnat compared to the US, operates 40-50 long range arctic icebreakers in a military capacity. The US operates 2, and they were built in the '70s.
The strategic problem of the arctic is not your lack of Greenland, it has been your lack of foresight and refusal to accept basic science and what it would come to mean for northern geography.
Happy insurrection day everyone!
May all your realities be whatever you make them up to be!

These days, the US only has Pituffik Space Base, an early-warning radar station with 150 personnel. It used to be Thule AFB, the airfield James Stewart is making for when he has to force-land his B-36 in Fifties flagwaver Strategic Air Command. (Rare case of an actual bomber pilot and USAF reservist playing a movie version of same.)
In the Cold War the US had a much bigger presence including two other major air bases, which they've chosen to withdraw from. Under treaty, they can establish new bases with Denmark's and (implicitly) Greenland's permission, but that might be tricky if the US is coming the aggressor. Trump's complaint about Chinese and Russian vessels in the area (and since when did he mind anything his pal Vlad does?) makes little sense, since US patrol aircraft are within range anyway and, Greenland being NATO territory, its defence is not a matter for unilateral US action.

you forgot to mention we're also woefully ill prepared to land marines on mercury right now chicken little
Just another day in the new America:
Preschool Teacher, 22, Arrested on TV After Condemning Trump
A preschool teacher was arrested on camera as soon as she finished a TV interview criticizing Donald Trump, fueling the debate over protest policing and free speech.
Jessica Plichta, 22, said she was the only person arrested among roughly 200 demonstrators at an anti-war protest in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, hours after Nicolas Maduro was detained in Caracas by the U.S. military.
In the broadcast footage, two officers could be seen approaching from behind as she wrapped her interview with WZZM, the city’s ABC affiliate, then escorted her away as she told them, “I am not resisting arrest.”
WZZM said an officer cited “obstructing a roadway and failure to obey a lawful command,” and that Plichta had been charged with failure to obey a lawful command.
Plichta later told Zeteo: “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as soon as I finished an interview speaking on Venezuela, I was arrested.”
She told the outlet the officers shoved her into the back of a patrol car without fastening her seat belt, then drove a short distance down the street—out of view of cameras and bystanders.
This is the model we're not following, it's so transparent:
Police arrest Russian peace protester within seconds of starting interview
what the ****
We are so ****ed.
What do you think history says right now about your actions leading up to the election and what has happened to your net worth since
The MAHA moms prayed for it, so it has to be good.
The new normal
The Trump administration plans to halt billions of dollars in federal funding for social services programs in five states led by Democrats following allegations of fraud, a Department of Health and Human Services official said Tuesday.
The move will freeze $7 billion for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, nearly $2.4 billion for the Child Care Development Fund and roughly $870 million for social services grants that largely benefit children. The states affected are Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois and Colorado.
President Donald Trump has been discussing "a range of options" to acquire Greenland, including use of the US military, the White House said.
In a statement, the White House told the BBC that Trump had made clear that acquiring Greenland was a "national security priority".
"The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the US military is always an option at the Commander-in-Chief's disposal," the White House said.
It comes after Trump again said at the weekend that the US "needed" Greenland – a semi-autonomous region of fellow Nato member Denmark – for security reasons.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned on Monday that any attack by the US would spell the end of Nato.
Really?
Yes, you're correct.... except this is the UNITED states of America. Your comment applies more specifically to countries writing history about their conquests, and worldviews, not parties within a country, because they can always be changed back again once the opposing party gets back into power.
Can we all share our favorite parts of this BS whitewashing of history? 😀 This is mine:
Unfortunately, these nine beautiful and courageous souls lost their lives—four on January 6 itself and five by their own hand while enduring merciless persecution—for the simple act of peacefully walking through the Capitol to protest a stolen election.
