I'd be honored personally if you were to make the OP.

If anything needs to get edited into it afterwards I can also be of assistance.

Go for it Tuma.

But first a few Fun Facts before we go:

Andru Jones and Carlos Beltran , both center fielders, were destined to go into the Hall of Fame together.

Born
Jones April 23, 1977
Beltran April 24, 1977

Career home runs
Jones - 434
Beltran - 435

Career slugging percentage
Jones - 486
Beltran - 486

One other note is Beltran is the 1st Astro to go into the HOF having played for them in both the National League and American League.

Also Wilbur Wood, the 1970s knuckle baller for the Whie Sox, passed away at the age of 84 years old.

3 Time Allstar

Led the league in wins in 1972 and 1973 with 24.

In 1972 he set a modern record for innings pitched at 376 innings pitched. He made 49 starts and since then no other pitcher has come within 30 innings of that record.

In 1973 he became the 1st pitcher since Walter Johnson in 1916 to win and lose 20 games in a season. When he went 24 and 20.

Hockey, tennis, and golf.

Definitely not hockey. There have been a ton of complaints about how teams have cheated to win cups in the last 15 years.

anyone ever play the 50/50 raffle at mlb games?

I played it a couple of times at Dbacks/Dodgers games in Phoenix, but no score.

I heard Giannis got traded to the Dodgers and for half a second.. I believed it.

RIP Wilbur :( As a huge White Sox fan especially of that era he was a hero. Started as a reliever where he was setting records for appearances then went on to become an iron man starter. i will never forget the time started and won both games of a doubleheader.

Luis Arraez has won batting titles for three different teams and now he can try to make it four after reaching a one-year deal with the Giants, according to multiple reports.

thoughts SRM?

this tweet is a little taste of what's to come in the op of the thread.

a trio of hall of famers that debuted the same year. . .

That's pretty hardcore. ++++

Upon further review category:

A great question came up the other day ... that the all-time record for most hits + managerial wins in MLB is a 3-way tie: Rose, Cobb and Joe Torre at 4, 668. I had a feeling that question is too good to be true. Upon checking, that indeed that is their totals. BUT, that 3-way tie is actually for 2nd place.

Who is first?

The famous Gehrig for Pipp replacement in the lineup on June 2, 1925 over Pipp's recurring headaches was actually Game 2 of Gehrig's consecutive game streak, not the beginning of it. The day before, who did Gehrig pinch-hit for to begin his streak of 2130 games?

Dusty Baker? Think I remember seeing a graphic that he played and managed for 20 years each

That was my guess, but BR has him for 1981 Hits and 2183 Wins

I was going to guess Frank Robinson but that isn't correct either.

I figured out the answer, but it isn't going to be easy for people to guess.

Pete rose has 412 wins as a manager.

Bruce Bochy. Got a lot of managerial wins but no idea if he even played.

Seems like I remember the talking heads I listen to said he was a catcher and that's why his knees were so bad and couldn't walk.

Not bochy. He didn't have nearly enough hits as a player.

Baker and Robinson are great guesses. But it isn't them. Both are at around 4000.

We have another further review on this question, and it looks like the original answer -- the great 3-way tie -- is the final answer. The guy who I thought topped them was Cap Anson with 4730 "hits + managerial wins, " but about 400 of his wins were in a non-official MLB league, I think called the National Association, not counted officially in the record book.

Final answer: 3-way tie ... Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, and Joe Torre at 4668.

What Hall of Famer died going over Niagara Falls?

When you posed the question thought it might be a real old timer manager who also played - I thought of John McGraw and Connie Mack but neither had the playing stats to get close.

Cap Anson did not occur to me. Then after you said this and I looked up his history I kind of wondered why they don't count the National Association stats - but I guess that was more of an informal league without formal rules.
