MuckPls & Whale - a March Madness TR part III
Flights and hotel booked so I might as weβll kick this off 2 months early.
Iβll be landing in Vegas on the 19th of March
He doesn't seem to ever stick solely to 1/3. :-)
16 nights! plans for no degen!! thoughts and prayers Mucky Boy!!!
what an incredible comp schedule you've got. so great to get such a good value stay at top quality properties. guessing the offers won't be so generous next time, if you stick to 1/3 but so what...that's a brilliant value trip!
Oh there will for sure be some kind of tiny degen, but not the same level as previous trips. Hereβs the thing, I love it but the stress and the financial part is killing me.
We spoke about it with Whale the other day, Iβve been to Vegas 20 times so far. Out of those 20 times I only had one trip where I lost $300 playing poker, all other trips were profit. Iβm up $23 000 in that period at mostly 1/3. Yet the amount of times I came back with money is very close to zero.
Regarding comps: itβs great and I doubt my offers will suffer too much, they have been pretty much stable for the past 5 years without changing. The only thing that will change is Venetian but honestly I donβt care about them, I only use it once.
Venetian, you say? They are having another Deepstack series from late February through the end of March. No schedule out yet.
However, their PokerGO PLO series schedule is out. Hey, isn't there a 2p2'er that likes to play mixed games?

My plan is to play all the bounty tournaments the week Iβm at the Venetian, if my schedule/jet lag allows it. They usually start at 6 pm so will have to adjust somehow until then. Its usually the wrong time of the day for me, I go to sleep at 3-4 pm in Vegas

Play satellites in the afternoon. How do they start at 6? Do they go till 4 am?
For those of you who have been following probably remember that I made Gold with MGM last year the hard way: play 150 hours at any MGM poker room.
Woke up this morning and my status has reset to Pearl:

Itβs fine tho; my comps are still without any resort fees. I just need to figure out if I can / want to grind out Gold during the trip. 16 full days means an average of 9.5 hours of play per day every single day. Iβm used to brutally long sessions but it gets a little bit difficult with Venetian stay so who knows. Iβll decide when I get to Vegas.
I don't know if you guys follow the news in the U.S., but they found an apparent bio-weapons lab in Vegas. The housekeeper got infected with something, but they haven't said what. Take your vitamin C before you arrive.

Do the floors know you? If so, $20 might see you at Gold again for another year.
Let's go to Vegas!
Not today unfortunately, but I have booked flights and hotel now. I will arrive on the 24th of March and leave on the 3rd of April. Which means basically 10 full days of Vegas this time around. I will fly the usual Malta - London - Las Vegas route both ways.
Currently I have some massive issues with making reservations on the MGM Rewards website, but that is a story for another day. What I don't have an issue with however, is that the updated offers for February suddenly showed up with half resort fees on most of the hotels now! (sans Aria, Bellagio and Cosmo). So that is really great news, and makes it much cheaper for me.
This in turn lead to me booking New York New York for the entire 10 days, as it was quite cheap and it will be nice not having the hassle of switching hotels mid-trip etc. Although their gym is a bit small for my taste, I like their rooms and the location/vibe in general. Hopefully there will also be some decent weather and time to hit up the pool during my stay.
I will come back with some more thoughts next month, but it feels good to finally have everything booked and be able to count down the days until another Vegas adventure awaits (47 days at the time of writing). Will obviously try to play as much poker as possible, although there will also be other things (or persons) fighting for my attention.
Yay Whale, glad you can join in!

After you book, keep checking back for lower prices. Youtubes keep talking about how desperate the Strip is for customers.
Small little bump to the TR. I was looking at Venetian promos and found this:
https://www.venetianlasvegas.com/resort/...
FREEROLL POKER TOURNAMENTS
Join us for our weekly freeroll promotion. Only 30 promotional eligible cash game hours needed each qualifying period to qualify for the weekly freeroll poker tournament for that week. $200 minimum payout just for qualifying. The top ten (10) promotional eligible cash game hour earners each qualifying period will receive a $300 bonus payout ($3,000 total bonus prizes weekly) once they register for the weekly Freeroll poker tournament for which they qualified for.
I normally donβt like promos too much but this is too good of a challenge to pass up on. I can EASILY see myself getting top 10 and even qualifying gets you a $200 payout. So yeah gonna push my Friday as far as physically possible and then be at Venetian 10 am sharp on Saturday. Plan is to play 12-16 hour days.

Super fun tournament that attracts the full range of player types, from random walk-in punters to reggy locals.
They run it almost year-round in the evenings and I tend to play it often when I'm in Vegas.

Wow, I see 30 hours in a week and think "that's a lotta hours", you think "couple of days".

The freeroll tournaments are on Sunday.
Ah, I misunderstood. You're going to play like a madman for 7 days for the big bonus. I'm used to the Horseshoe freeroll, where they don't "switch on" the earning period until the tournament is over. Venetian's looks much better anyway because you don't have to pay to play the tournament. Or even play the tournament if you don't want to.
Which makes me reconsider choice of hotels - Harrah's is closer to the Venetian, and if I'm not going to try for the Horseshoe "free"roll it's a lot less walking to stay at Harrah's.

You actually do have to pay:
ββQualifying Venetian Rewards members who register for the Freeroll Tournament will be required to pay a $30 Buy In at
the time of registration. Qualifying Venetian Rewards members who do not pay the $30 Buy In will not be registered for
the Freeroll Tournament and will not be eligible for any Prizes. $200 of all Buy In money collected will be used to fund the
two hundred ($200) cash prize for the last place finisher in the Freeroll poker tournament. All other Buy In money will be
withheld as a staff fee gratuity.ββ
So the entry fee is $30, every qualifier is guaranteed $200 so $170 net + top ten hours get an additional $300 + the share of the tournament based on how it goes.
Ugh.
Always in for a Muck TR!
It ainβt that bad, you still get $170 just for qualifying and thatβs assuming you are the dead first to bust.
It's just that the more I find out about the promo, the less appealing it becomes. First of all, I have to put in twice the hours of the Horseshoe promo, and still lose less than I might gain. I can only gain $170 now, bringing my maximum loss rate at the tables to $5.66 an hour just to break even. At 1/3 that's basically one hand. OTOH I ran like death at Horseshoe, maybe Palazzo would be better.
